I feel like Connie held on just so the other piggies could have the best care possible, after spending close to 3 days, after seeing the love and care you gave to her and the other piggies she just started resting knowing that her babies will be ok, knowing that the other piggies are safe with your care and others care, Rest In Peace Connie❤️

We rescued a piggy in horrible condition too. Unfortunately she only made it just over a year longer but she was such a good girl and she really showed how happy she was with proper care. She would cuddle up under my chin a purr, she would bump her heads on your lips. I'm so glad she got that time and all the proper care

i saw Connie and i just knew. I have rescued a few piggies.. i don't have a room for more than 2. We lost Blizzard our first piggie after we rescued him from a hardware store where he spent his entire life. We only had him for 10 days before he passed but he had major malnutrition issues as well. Connie and Blizzard are over the rainbow bridge with George (GP)and all our former gerbils too. You gave her love and she knew that. Big hugs from our family to yours.

I’d be using the vet one on new carriers. Vinegar and water won’t do anything if it’s been used with an animal with ringworm at any stage. Unlikely but not something you want to deal with in your pig room. You’re doing a great job.

So sorry about Connie. I had a feeling in your rescue video that she was too far gone. I've had two piggies in the past and I know that look and posture too well. It's so hard when you do everything you know to do and can't help them. You're absolutely right when you say what a connection and bond you form with a sick piggy. It's unreal. My first had never been overly friendly and much preferred my rabbit's company to my own but when she was passing, she followed me everywhere. I ended up syringe-feeding both my girls before they passed and gosh, was it heartbreaking to let them go. I sure wish I had the resources and knowledge back then that you have now for yours (the critical care, feeding, and housing, especially). I was giving them pellets, hay and vitamin C, but something obviously wasn't right. It's the hardest thing seeing them waste away when you're doing everything you know to do, taking them to the vet several times, and I googled for hours trying to find something to help my last girl (about 12 years ago). She was a beautiful red and white Peruvian. I learned that she most likely had cancer (her feet were badly swollen, her joints were stiff and hurting and she had a large tumor in her chest). She was in pain but she was still happy. The day that she didn't seem happy or herself anymore I made the appointment to put her to sleep. I couldn't have her suffer anymore. That was such a hard day but she'll forever be in my heart. She was like a little dog. That's how fun and personable she was. The strange thing was that I became severely allergic to her, her bedding, and her hay in the end when she was sick. I was hand-feeding her, syringe-feeding her, cuddling her and getting her off those poor little swollen feet, tearing my eyes out because they itched so badly and sneezing so much I completely lost my voice when I cleaned her cage. My face would get all swollen. I have no idea what caused the allergy since the prior 4.5 years I had no reaction like that to her in the least and I handled her all the time and she snuggled up in my neck to sleep several times a day. On her side, with her little leg kicked out across my chest. It was the cutest thing! I also had no allergies to the guinea pig before her or the other little animals I had previously had. It would be interesting to find out what caused it. I'm sorry you lost sweet Connie, but thank you for continuing to rescue these unique, amazing, and fun little creatures and sharing them with us. Guinea pigs are really special little beings that you only really come to understand and appreciate when you care for one (or 13).

So sorry about Connie. I really thought she'd pull through but her poor little body was just not strong enough. I rescue and rehabilitate animals in my area of southeastern Kentucky and have had heartbreaking losses as well. It's tough to keep going after losing an animal, but if we don't help them, who will? I've had more success than failure in my rescuing adventures thankfully and I hope you have the same and remember that each time you rescue an animal in need, you're saving a soul from a lifetime of hardship and sadness. Even when they don't fully recover, you have made a positive impact on that little life and that's what matters and why we rescue. 🤘🏻

I also rescue (cats, not pigs!) and it is always my biggest fear, feeling like I didn't do enough to save a sick cat. It is so expensive to care for animals, especially ones who you are getting in bad shape as it is. I have felt pretty blessed that I have some local low cost vets in my area and that I have really figured out how to deal with a lot of the more "common" medical issues on my own. One of my worst rescues had lost her kittens and developed an infection due to the backed up milk. She also had broken teeth and was covered in fleas, ticks, and had worms. She was so incredibly small and skittish. I was able to get her infection cleared up and treated her for all the parasites. We have a really amazing spay and neuter clinic here, and when I took her in to have her spayed, they saw her broken teeth and removed those for her as well for only $7. No questions, I didn't even mention it to them. The vet suggested that she thought the cat was only about a year old, as her teeth were so clean, but that they had been broken because she was eating rocks. She is such a lovebug, it is insane to think she is the same cat I rescued from the gutter at a gas station. She is for sure a foster fail, I can't rehome a cat who just wants to lay on me and hug my neck.

I completely understand what it's like to lose a pig after thinking they were going to make a full recovery. Just lost one of my first pigs a few months ago after complications from bladder stone removal. He seemed perfectly fine when he got home, and just declined rapidly over the next few days. Less than a week later he was gone. It was really hard, but I just had to remind myself that the vet and I did the best we could for the little guy.

I rescued a Guinea pig , she had many issues ( but don’t want to go into it , I had her for about 6 months and every thing was going well she had many appointments with vets, she was eating well had a huge personality but suddenly stopped eating and dropped so much weight ( rushed her to the vets got her medication, had her on critical care but sadly I had her put down as she wasn’t getting better and I didn’t want her to suffer. It really hit me as I really bonded with her in my room as I have other guinea pigs and animals and I didn’t know if she was carrying anything and she had bad ringworm so I really got to know her but sadly she did loose her fight even tho she fought like hell

Yeah, I was king of expecting this... Not that I didn't believe you could save her, but seeing the condition she was in, I just didn't think she was going to make it. Also, what you said about rescuing animals. I run a cat rescue myself. Those last two years were very hard for us, we lost a lot of sick/old cats, because we focus our rescue on those sick ones especially. We lost some that we got in pretty poor condition, they seemed to be doing better, getting healthier, but in the end, their bodies and mind went through too much to be able to keep on living. There are days I'm asking myself if I should be even doing this, the more cats I lose, the worse I end up feeling about all of it.

Hate to bring this back up as it’s sad but I have a similar story with my one of my rescue pigs (first time owner), small store cage, to a 2x5 I new they would stay still for a bit as both were really shy. 1 day, 2 day 3 days. I notice one seizing and wheeking in pain, I try to take her the the closest vet, none had a ‘pocket’ pet vet on hand, so we drove 2 hours away to a vet who could take her, 10 mins before we got there she took her last breath. I knew something was wrong brut I couldn’t do much until the weekend when I tried. I felt like everything was my fault. But for those who consider rescue, here’s some words from a friend that helped me cope with this loss. “It’s a hard thing to go through, but in the end all life has an end, know that no matter what you may think, or what the world had planned for that piggy, you tried you best, you gave them the life they deserved, and you made sure they knew love, something many of rescues don’t understand/feel. You helped them live their last few days happy.” Rescuing is a hard thing to do, and I’m glad there are people like you who are willing to do it and give them the happiest lives to jump back to health, and if the hard truth comes to be, know they are in the best of care on the rainbow bridge

Sorry that you lost Connie, but at least she was able to have love and proper care in her final days of life. You should be proud of yourself for that alone. I honestly feel that more people should be educated on the proper care of Guinea Pigs as well as Rabbits. They tend to put them in tiny cages which we all know is not what they should have. Pet stores should also be re-educated on proper housing and care for the animals that they are selling rather than just being about the money. It makes me sad thinking about it. Thank you for rescuing the ones you can. You are an amazing human being!!!

Watching your video I learned so much about piggy care, well just rodent care in general, I never knew about the cage issues until now. I had a rabbit, rat, and piggy growing up and they all had the typical cage you get at the pet store and they would recommend you the smallest cage for the pet. Luckily they rarely was in there cage when im home from school when I was younger they would usually running around in the house or on my shoulders or arms. Now that im older I feel so bad about their cage situation I had them in back then. I hope more pet stores realize, and even people, learn better about caring for pet rodents.

As annoying as it is to take those carriers apart, you really should open it up and scrub it in the bathtub. You never know what grime could be smushed in the cracks. When I did rat fostering I used dish soap to clean new cages and between fostering cases, then leave the pieces in a sunny spot to dry.

Respite is when you need to temporarily place your pet with someone else, Your going on vacay, you have a situation and you temporarily can't afford things, etc. You can bring your piggies to that place they offer respite. Sorta like boarding.

So.. that is not big enough for a medium dog (medium dogs are mini-aussies and similar sized species and up to regular/full aussies). That looks to be a cat crate which is best suited for cats and small pets (like rabbits, ferrets and G-pigs). Dog crates aren't typically designed for vet visits (as in to be carried in)! they're larger, stockier and are made to be well.. stationary. In the home, in the back of a large van.. They usually have enough room to Sit, Stand, turn around and lay down fully (comfortably! with legs out to the side if need be) as that is how much room you need for a dog to be housed safely (so they aren't hunching over or such). One medium crate is 4 of those (2 high, by 2 wide). Use to keep my dogs in medium crates when they were puppies.

Question- do guinea pigs or other animals experience refeeding syndrome? Obviously if that was an issue the vet would have caught it I'm just curious if that's a concern with rescues in general.

I adopted my first boar, Charlie from a rescue. Unfortunately he unexpectedly got ill and we still don't know why. We think it may have been his kidneys. The hardest thing I have ever done in my life was hold him as he passed. Just to make sure he didn't feel alone and was as comfortable as could be. I tried to get into a vet to have him euthanized, but I couldn't. I had him on a pillow on my lap with a small heating pad under a blanket for him. I still tear up, but I know his little time with me was a happy time and he made many new friends with my herd. I don't know his previous situation, but I loved him as long as I had him. It's never easy, but there are so many little ones that need to be loved. I can't give up, Hanna, Cookie, and Charlie wouldn't want me too.
