My female guinea is not being herself. I adopted her 2 years ago and since then shes been fine until now. Her breathing is a bit slower then usual. She barely eats . She barely walks around. Her fur is proofed up And shes bleeding from her, area. I know it's not a period because I havent seen her have a period since I got her till today... I dont know what's wrong. And I cant go to a vet. Its just too expensive. Plus most of the money is used for rent and Guinea pig supplies like bedding amd hay etc.

@@midnightreyna6897 I am sad to say this is a serious problem and would require a vet. The piggy is in pain and so she acts that way with no eating, hair puff, etc. I hope for the best, but I would emotionally prepare yourself especially if she gets no food herself or from you.

Scotty's Animals Your video’s are amazing so I always like them even before I watch them! I’m wondering if you are going to talk about bumblefoot. Have had many guinea pigs but this is only my 2nd one with bumblefoot and it’s a skinny pig that isn’t very active. None of the other ones in the cage or the other cages have it so I’m thinking it’s because he’s so chill. We are doing soaks and antibiotics and he’s doing better but I’d like to know more about it.

A year ago one of my piggies Xavier started losing balance, toppling over and walking in circles. Vet claimed it was ear infection, prescribed ear drops, oral antibiotics and metacam. He toppled over less often but was still walking in circles. Then he developed cloudy eye. Again more vet visits, eye drops, eye ointment. Vet said it was a corneal tear. The eye drops worked to preserve and heal the cornea, but he ended up with blindness in that eye. Then he developed head tilt, was still walking in circles and toppling over. More vet visits and antibiotics. Then he started dragging his back legs around. Vet said it was arthritis... I have to wonder if he ever really had an ear infection to begin with. Vet said the opaque eye may have been side effect of the antibiotics that he was on for over a month. And the toppling over and walking in circles was also neurological complication of the so-called ear infection. Xavier did eventually pass away poor thing. I miss my adorable little piggie. I just wish I had known more then and could have done more then to help him.

Hi Scotty I have a very sad story , my beautiful Ally died this morning . I noticed she was ill yesterday , she was just in her house all day and wouldn’t move . I picked her up ans she was skinny just 2 days prior she seemed fine . But when I think back and looked at videos I took of her she didn’t eat the spinach I gave her when I had her on my lap I just thought she wasn’t hungry it was just one spinach leaf I offered her . In a couple of days she just deteriorated rapidly the day I noticed something was wrong I called all vets around me no one was seeing pocket animals u til early morning today . I woke up early to take her she was still alive but had labored breathing . She was dying it was so devastating . Bella her buddy was with her all night . I adopted Alley a month ago from petsmart they said she was 3 years old but was a small piggy . I bought her a companion 2 weeks later after I read that piggy’s need companions . I took her to the vet early this morning she was in there for 5 min when the vet called me I was waiting in the car because if covid they don’t let u in . The vet told me they gave her oxygen ans dextrose but she wasn’t responding ans that her heart was weak and that she was dying . As while he was telling me this she passed away .... I don’t know why she got so ill. Bella is fine it wasn’t anything they ate . I thought maybe it was heat stroke but Bella was fine and my question is how long would it take for a guinea pig to pass away is it a fast process or could it be it was something else . I will never know . I keep them in my living room I usually have the AC on but at night I turn it off it had been a bit hot these past days but I didn’t think it was too hot but then again I wasn’t sleeping in the living room . Now I’m leaving my window open and a fan going just Incase . I keep blaming myself and trying to research why she got so ill . Does heat stroke happen and then it takes days of the guinea pig not eating ? How is that process ? I didn’t want Bella to be sad she stood in her house all day today after Ally passed away . So my husband bought a new companion for her we named her penny they seem to be getting along but there will never be another Alley she was my sweet girl :(

A little random. But here in NC, it snowed one day, then turned 60 ish degrees the next day. The whole previous year, & these mths included, I never got sick till then. I wondered to myself if my guinea pig knew I was sick. I didn't play w/ him as much & he just kept looking at me. Even when I "spooned" him, he just sat still. (He's still kind of a new pet). Well, I'm sure he heard me coughing alot, watched me sleep alot, all that stuff. But then I got back to being my annoying self today. Feeling the need to sing his name in a nice tone, & switching to an obnoxious way 😁. I do this w/ songs too 🤷 bc I get bored. & He himself, is popcorning more & seeming to be more active, as well. He must be like ,"🙉 oh god, here she goes again. Well, at least she's back to being her "normal self." Was worried for a bit 🤔." 😁 Just an observation

Romaine lettuce is actually not really that high in calcium. It is, however, higher in oxalates like oxalic acid than most other piggie safe lettuces which, as we've learned more about kidney stones, bladder stones, and other abnormal crystalizations in the human body, is thought to also be a key component in the formation of stones in pigs! So, still not a great food for stone prone piggies, but for different reasons than most people think. I find it kind of fascinating because I have a health condition that means I have to watch my oxalic acid intake and be sure I'm getting enough vitamin C and water to be sure I can properly flush excess oxalic acid from my system. It makes me wonder if vitamin C might play the same role in piggies bodies, since we already know upping water intake is important for stone piggies, and if any studies have been done related to piggies that are prone to stones and their vitamin C intake.

I leave a. humidifier in the room with him. it's on the other end of the room often and every now and then I put Vicks in the humidifier because I'm slightly allergic to literally everything lmao km. but like I've been looking into vets near me that I can afford and olbas oil to put in the room with him because I heard it helps. I'm just worried and hoping to help my little boy breathe better, he uses to be talkative Idk if it was due to his nose starting to whistle or if it was due to him realizing he's not the only piggy around now. Hi Scotty, any words of advice/encouragement about ringworm for me...this will be long SORRY. But I got my daughter a guinea pig from PETSMART for xmas (now i know big mistake, all our cats and dogs are shelter rescued but i didn’t know guinea pigs could be rescued sorry) but anyway he had ringworm and it spread to my daughter bc i allowed her to cuddle him on her chest and she got a scratch b4 we knew he had it obvs, we were washing hands after diligently tho, then I took him to exotic pet when i saw his eye flaking for culture, instead of returning him to stupid Petsmart after i called them about the positive ringworm results, i was scared we wouldn’t get him back, so i treated him with itraconizol meds 4 wks from vet... But just when i got the all clear on his culture after his meds were done, and my daughter’s all cleared up, it popped up on my back!!! 🤭😖😭 MGawd, i have been washing and cleaning and lysoling my big house for all of 2019 now buy my ocd is thru the roof now!! We have all been clear two months now but ’m scared he’s a silent carrier or the spores are all around my house for 18 months, etc etc bc we had him everywhere in the house b4 we knew he had ringworm and i was everywhere b4 i knew u caught it from him or my daughter!! I’m so scared to enjoy him now, i only let my daughter hold him right b4 her showers and i get terrible anxiety cleaning his cage or touching him now for fear of ringworm and I’m scared AF to get him a buddy as originally planned bc of ringworm agaim. Do you have any advice!?!

Maybe add vitamin c to their diet... I am a new owner but learned they have a hard time absorbing vitamin c which can lower their immune system causing issues such as ringworm! I realize you left a comment a year ago... but late then never. 😄 Good luck 👍

Q.what about when your guinea pig has a red spot behind its ears what kind of remedy can you use for that or is that just natural
@ScottysAnimals5 жыл бұрын
It depends if it was always there or if it is new and if it is growing. Keep an eye on it
