A good video and a smart choice of model to concentrate on. I am not a worshipper at the temple of the 911, but I still cannot help but smile when I see an early car, or even one from the 80s. It is a thing of beauty and wonder. On the few occasions I drove one (nothing built since 1983) I lacked the skill and courage to get anywhere near its limits on the public highway. One could feel the reserve of grip, acceleration, steering and stopping power, but it was wasted on public roads and I do not think I would have had the skill to exploit them on a race track, had I had the chance. Nonetheless, the cars of the 60s, 70s and 80s were a delight to see, to hear and on those rare occasions to drive; albeit well within their limits. My most visceral drive in a 911 wasn't in a 911.... It was in a re-imported US-market carb-fed 912..... Somehow the best, the most subtle and the most street-appropriate of a wonderful family. All the sweeter for being nearer its limits at responsible and legal speeds. Nice video.... Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

Once again, a great video for a legend of a car.! They took it as far as it could go, building the 959, and showcasing that it was not over with the 911 set up. Great collaboration too!!!

I adore the 928, and will certainly make a video about it very soon. I’ve driven (briefly) a manual S4 and enjoyed it a lot. Felt much newer than its actual production year!

What a mistake it would have been for Porsche to discontinue the 911. Having said that, the 928 is definitely the coolest one for Porsche non-enthusiasts like myself. Great video collaboration, thanks!

Glad you liked this rather special video. Yes, in a later interview, Mr. Schutz said that by saving the 911 he probably saved Porsche itself. The front-engined cars sold well in their day, but were much more easily attacked by the competition

Best rwd car I've driven in the rain. Lots of traction with all the weigh on the back axle. We used to swap out gearbox for g50s. 930s were so cheap twenty years ago.

Excellent video! And good idea to team up with Greasy Fingers, like that channel a lot, too. I'm proud owner of a 1987 Carrera 3.2, one of the few without sunroof. I'm rather tall an without sunroof there are few cm more headroom. Ciao 🙋‍♂️

Excellent video Matteo! I'm also a 928 fan, that car is just amazing. But keeping on topic, that 911 is one of my all time favourite designs. It's just perfect! I remember quite well the "Bron/Broen" TV series were the olive green 911 driven by Saga Norén keep me absolutelly hooked to the -excellent- series!

Very good review and explanation. However, the G50 was only offered on the 930 Turbo in 1989, being the last year of the production. Not from 1987 onwards.

I have a 1985 911 carrera. is it true that you can tell which trans is which...915 trans, reverse is located down to the right and G50 trans is forward up to the left?

I had a beautiful champagne metallic 1977 91 2.7 liter coupé, the worst headlights ever on a car, like nails glowing in the dark, poor handling especially in the wet and the brakes were so-so. ( no servo assistance) Man I loved that car ! I sold it for my own money after a couple of years when the tires were worn to the thread and the guy who maintained it for me told me the engine was starting to leak oil. I sold it the new owner I still see the guy every now and then and he now has a 911 which is worth 5 times the price he paid ! "i o sono stupido "

If your going to do a non Italian classic this is a great choice, the prices for those air cooled classics have gone sky high her in California.

Yes the appreciation classic 911 have had in the last decade has been spectacular... But it seems prices are below their peak now. Sure, these will never be as cheap as they used to be in the past, and undestandably so.

I always loved the Porsche 911 since it was produced! My great regret was that I never managed to drive any variant of Porsche 911 altrough I had often had a ride ride on some variants. Like many Italians my favourite was the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 but also the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (but many told it was not the same thing!). Honestly I never liked the Porsche with the front engines and the variants with the boxer engines as i do not consider those cars a "real" Porsche but I'm a lousy "traditionalist". I know that your favorite Porsche was the 928 so I hope you don't get offended...

I’ve never been a Porsche purist, but I think that today’s Porsche has gone even too far! Now it’s a SUV maker with some sports cars on the side! 😂 At least the 924 and 928 weren’t SUVs

@@Matteo_Licata in this I agree fully with you, if it is for that it is the is the same seeing the Bentley SUV or the Jaguar but even the Alfa Romeo! Those SUV has nothing to do with their namesake! I find it sad indeed that those once glorious companies has to resort to those vehicles that by the way are dammed expensive and has a consumption that would the be the envy of an oil-tanker...

In my opinion the Porsche 911 has grown too fat. Yeah, I know GT2 and 3 are fast. Whatever. Steve McQueen’s opening sequence in the movie LeMans would have to be shot with a Cayman today. But the cold hard reality is, sports cars aren’t selling. The Cayman is Porsche’s least popular model while the SUV’s fly out of showrooms. Sadly. Also, I have driven both a ‘79 911S and an ‘86 911 SC. I’m 6’ tall and found the shifter was always banging my right knee, the bottom hinged pedals awkward, the clutch engagement sensitive, and the acceleration is slow. My VW GTI would blow the doors off these cars. The best thing was the steering. Great feedback. Visibility is great too. Otherwise these cars are just, meh.
