Ok folks listen. Finn is being completely sarcastic when talking about Biden. In fact he said later: “really, Biden and Trump are the only two candidates we have? In a country of 300 million people??! There’s got to be someone better out there…” He may have said a few more choice comments on the whole presidential discussion… but I chose to leave them out of the video 😉 Thanks for watching! Renee💕

That’s why I wanted a time stamp! I closely relate to y’all’s family values and morals, and was very confused as to what I could have missed in the video. Those 2 out of 300 million IS bewildering.

Thank you Renee for capturing another thrilling undersea adventure. And Finn, your background music is remarkable (recorded in your cabin?!), world class, mood setting, and aurally beautiful. Happy 18th birthday Finn, I know you’re excited about your up and coming van adventures. Great save on the rudder Keith, the boat issues pale in comparison to what Jack and Kate are experiencing in Tonga, I know you and Renee are concerned about them with good right, just praying for everyone’s well being and health.

Thank you Renée. What a lovely episode. You're such a competent artist in your photography and editing of each and every episode of Sailing Zatara. I think you're really lucky to have Finn's carefree, copyright free, casual, caring chords and gentle melodies to accompany your footage. Thanks Finn, you are noticed and appreciated. I wanted to ask Captain Keith, do you have an idea about the break down of the rudder. Is it poor manufacture? I'm sure if it had been because of collision, you would have noticed. And so Finn moves on to another challenge in his life. I'm sure life aboard has given him many skills which will translate to vanlife. Renée. as a mother you are allowed to be sad when the last of the crew leave the boat. It's a mother's right and privilege. I think it may hit Captain Keith somewhat hard. I could feel he was a little quiet this time. When birds of a feather fly to seek new endeavours, you know that they always have a very acute homing instinct. You'll see. They may be closer than you think. Keep Sailing Zatara out on the Blue. I will miss you until you return. ❤

Hi there! As a full time RV dweller let me just give you a heads up on your solar. When you get panels make sure that they install them in a frame. If you just mount them directly anywhere they will fail. The frame needs to be off the roof or wherever you install them. At least enough to get the airflow under them. Happy trails and happy sails! OMG, Hard to think Grenada is taking on a huge hurricane when you traveled there to miss them. Since the airport closed in Grenada I hope everyone made it out okay to Texas. Perhaps Finn’s driver’s license requirement was a god send. We are concerned also for Luke and Emily being at a hut type Airbnb in the hurricane? Hopefully they made it to a shelter. Is Zatara on the hard? Hopefully so. Better chance of surviving the hurricane with a storm surge and the extreme winds, than if still in the water. Praying for you all in this unfortunate situation. Can’t wait to find out you are all okay! As long as all the family is safe, everything else is replaceable. God Bless you all! 🙏

my retired parents were sailing in the Georgian Bay one summer and the rudder fell off after years of leaking and getting the Styrofoam interior wet. The sailboat manufacturer had to send a new rudder by rail car to Toledo, then dad had to strap it to the car and drive the 300 miles into Canada where the boat was, then hire a scuba diver to install it because there was no dry dock. Mom figured they were too old to handle the 42' boat themselves and told dad this was the last straw and it came down to the boat or her, and she would be a lot more expensive than the boat. It was sold the next summer. The family still laughs about that rudder!

I would have your rudder rebuilt with horizontal for to aft ribs in between the foam every 4 to 6 inches of rudder vertical length. The rudder skin is fluttering or vibrating causes the delaminating of the core to the rudder skin. If you add some ribs that will stop that flutter happening on the rudder skins no more delaminating. Sailor Lake Erie with a little fiberglass work under my belt on sailboats, and planes that go much faster, but do the same thing. Flutter damage happens both to composites, and aluminum in my experience. When it the rudder surfaces skins let go, it does it very suddenly no warning. You could learn the tap test city coins or a large washer delamination test every time you have it on the hard. Tap sounds solid on the rudder surface no delaminating , hollow sound you have delamination.

Hey guys I understand some of the issues of rudder and prop issues , you’ve managed those realy well , here is my 10 cents . Maybe the extra horses from the engines are producing more vortex water passing over the rudders , if it were me I would consider fabricating some stainless rudders , hollow of course . It may add another 25% weight but then they should never fail again , they would also be Orca proof so bring it on . It’s a common thing in comercial vessels . Still great to see your episodes , hope it’s all going well for you .

Many moons ago I sent a link to you for Nemo tools and suggested the boys could do the bottom faster than always scraping the bottom. Nemo is faster and saves time. I bought a hull cleaner and love it! I see you have the drill. I love being able to use the tools underwater!

Finn, it looks like the old man is kicking you to the curb. 🤣 It's time to sail some pavement! What kind of vanlifer are you going to be? Campgrounds, walmart parking lots, or are you going to the wildlands of dispersed camping? My advice stay away from the weeders, carry an extra spare tire, always wear a jimmy hat, and North in the summer South in the winter and post videos once a week 😂. Looking forward to whatever adventures find you on your van tour.

The amount of money these people must have to fly everywhere, stay, have things fixed and support everything is insane. The underwater drill is 600.00 or more…..who has underwater drills?

Thinking about you Keith and Renee and fam as this hurricane bears down on Granada. Hopefully all will be well. UPDATE as of Tuesday, 7/2: • Extended state of emergency in Grenada: The order has been extended until July 7 due to the severe damage wrought by the storm, said Neila K. Ettienne, spokesperson for the prime minister’s office. About 95% of the island of Grenada has lost power, she said. Telecommunications are also down and some individuals have lost internet service.

There are really no completely safe marinas or anchorages in Grenada. So, fate of the boat will have been up to good or bad luck. Since communications are disrupted and they probably didn't leave the Starlink antenna out on deck, I have to assume that, despite remote monitoring capabilities, the state of the boat is unknown at this point. That's unless, travel plans were postponed because of the weather situation in which case they could have found a place to ride out the hurricane. We shall see...

Just a correction - LiFePO4 batteries are not Lithium Ion batteries, but Lithium Iron (with an "r") Phosphate batteries. There is a distinct difference.
