This has been by far the best interview with anyone from Elliott Racing that I have ever listened to. I miss the days of cheering them on at many Nascar tracks. Lots of great memories tied to them and what Nascar use to be.

I'm from North Georgia (Northwest area, about an hour from Dawsonville) and of course adore the Elliotts. My earliest memories of Bill are the Coors Light car and 1991, so I missed the boat on Melling Racing's glory days but I can say as a fan of all eras of the sport I'm proud that a family effort from this area did what it did. So absolutely, from that standpoint, Dan is right that the family aspect is huge. This was a great interview. As I said I love and truly appreciate the Elliott family and their story and who they are. They've made this state and especially this area of the state so proud, and Chase continues to.

I loved that it was a family team.

Such a great interview, Dan really sheds light on the Great Elliott dynasty. Family teams no longer have a place in the sport, and one of the things sending me back to the dirt tracks.

Rick, you really outdone yourself with this interview content, great job Sir! Is this the end of Dan’s series? Didn’t know if you would go into his deal as the GM of Gresham Motorsports Park and what’s he doing now.

So sad that the family structure has been lost to big money teams.

Elliott Racing had a great year in 1990 with Mike Beam as the crew chief. They had (5) top 2 finishes. They had at least 3 other races won until bad luck took them out. Then Mike Beam left the team and Ernie Elliott had to come back to crew chief the car on race days and build the engines in 1991. That had to be too much for one person. Harry Melling should have hired another big name crew chief for 1991 and left Ernie in the engine shop full time. The results would have been much better. Bill might not have left the team. The team was being mismanaged. Subsequently, Bill had to leave it.

Dan was always the easiest to get along with. Bill was the baby and spoiled, Ernie was the oldest and crankiest. Any of them would give you the shirt off their back, though.
