Met him at a dealership in Hendersonville nc in 1986 . He was exhausted after a hot day in Michigan the day before. Signed my hat and did his best to be nice but you could see he wanted to go home. Still a fan ,and pulled for him till he hung it up

Best driver and engine building brother. My dad was his biggest fan which in turn made me his second biggest. I live in Abingdon right next to bristol raceway so I used to go as a kid all the time. I had a picture of me at 8 years old with bill in 88 right before he won for first time on half mile. Also had an autograph. My dad died one month before bill won Indy. Wish he could've seen it. One of my moms boyfriends lost my autograph and picture when he got evicted. I'm 40 now and wish I could show my son but too late now. Maybe get another in future. Love Bill Elliott. I can watch those old 80's races and still name every driver. Miss good ole days. I route for chase now feels like second generation between both of us.

you used to be able to drop stuff off at the shop and next time Bill was home, he would sign all that stuff and if you provided the materials and postage and they would drop it in the mail for ya.

Met him in Jackson Mississippi in 1985,really wasn't that nice.could tell he didn't wanna be there,I was 13,my dad lost all respect for him right then and there.

That’s too bad. I tell ya, all these cameras really have leveled the field because I remember hella of these dude being jeg offs when you’d meet them back in the days but once all these cameras started popping up it made the A Holes think twice about how they were treating people who were actually making them rich. They probably thought how stupid everyone is for making them rich.

He does talk about 1985 at the 15 minute mark, I think he explains the pressure and the fact that so many people wanted something from him. I get the feeling that is is generally a good guy.

C'mon. Jackson, Mississippi and he didn't want to be there ? Imagine that. Guess you didn't listen to the interview or ever read anything about Bill Elliott. It's well documented that Bill was extremely shy and admittedly imagined that he came off as a stuck up driver. I go to every Atlanta race and it was just automatic we would go to Southlake Ford the Friday before the race and get Elliott's autograph. He was always engaging to the fans as he signed for hours. My favorite story from those days was probably 1999 or 2000 and someone had found an old program from a 1978 Atlanta race. Back when Petty, Allison's, Pearson, Baker, Yarborough were the front runners and Elliott and Earnhardt were part timers and in their mid 20s and their hair was a mess. I have the program opened to the page with Elliott's picture to keep the line moving. Bill saw his picture and flipped it to the cover then flips through the pages and when he stops, his inner Gomer Pyle comes out and says, Geeeoooolleee! Look at ol Ironhead (Earnhardt).
