Rob.....have you thought about catering to the “mod” crowd by offering a line of “base” guitars with just the neck and body to allow moders the ability to install their own hardware, electronics, and pickups? Heck, you could even do them with no finish for the people who want to put their own paint job to them. I love modding my guitars a bit, but not having to pay for hardware and the other bits that are just going to get swapped out would be ace! Just a thought........

I bought a Chapman Ghost Fret from Riff City Guitar in Minnesota just after release. I really loved that place, and found the guitar to be a well-made instrument of good design. Unfortunately, with Chapman moving to Guitar Center, and after Riff City had just opened a new store and with all the money they spent on getting ready to move their original store, the business was shut down. I don't know if it was an issue of bad timing, unrealistic expectations, or something else. Rumors tend to be rather one-sided, so I'm not sure I can ever really trust them. Regardless, it was a great store that disappeared. Talk about the end of an era. RIP Riff City Guitar. Great people, great store.
@jburdsinfuse7 ай бұрын
Me too…exact same story, same guitar. Lots of small shops have died in the last 10 years…they can’t compete with the internet and all of the easy, no credit payment plans. The Riff City story kind of turned me off on Chapman. I still watch some of the videos, but it’s not the same.
@davidtomkins42427 ай бұрын
Not having exclusivity on chapman was certainly a blow to Riff City and was a bit distasteful after the public bonhomie that chappers cultivated with riff city, but they went under because they didn’t sell enough fender, gibson, esp, ibanez, strings, whatever. The chapman thing is just the public face of a malaise in a declining bricks and mortar industry

I've been thinking about having a 'clean channel' in guitar. Like mini toggle switch, that bypass all existing wiring and goes only to one coil on neck, then extra vol pot that allow to choose level. I do it sometimes on my Epi Les Paul - only using pickup selector I can run my amp way cleaner. But ML1 have only one vol pot, that's why I think about it.

I've got a ML1 pro modern. I've had a set of Bare Knuckle Ragnarok pickups in it that are orange and grey, I've had a three way switch fitted, a set of new pot, with a push pull on the tone pot to split the coils. It's also had a new bridge. It sounds monster!

My then girlfriend, now wife, bought me a White ML3 Traditional about 5-6 years ago. I think at this point, outside of the string tree and the output jack, I have modded everything (now loaded with Duncans, push-pull wiring, new pots, locking tunes, new nut). It is still my number 1, beating out my PRS', Gibsons, and Custom James Tyler guitar. Such value for its price range. I get compliments on it and other guitarist asking me "What is that white guitar?" whenever I play it out at gigs.

I love the look of that ML-1 Is that a wilkinson VS-100 bridge? the only thing i would add dimarzio super 3 in bridge, 2 dimarzio fast track 2 in neck and middle turn tone into a ccil tap for the super 3, add probably a white or plack pearloid binding on body, neck and headstock, put in liminlay chapman logo on the headstock and luminlay infinity inlay on fretboard. and add stainless steal jumbo frets and gold metal dome speed knobs i perfer them better than the top hats and the other style. i would put sperzel locking tuners on it as well and maybe graph tech nut since i don't know any company that makes a left handed brass/titanium roller nut. and DR Strings 9 to .52 set (which i would call the Heavy Metal set) i think the only set is the dimebag 9's to 50's set. I would love a left handed version you could call them retro customs you could add the old hot rod, and the original Rabea Model call it the hot rod deluxe, the flying v and call them the legacy. This ml-1 reminds me of the 90's Charvel San Dimas with the natural finishes with mahogany, or korina,, or i think swamp ass and Lacewood. That is what this ML-1 reminds me off. Hell i might even want 2 or three of them with different dimarzio and duncan pickups in them Might even have the monkey lord logo wood burned into the guitar as tribute. but as i said maybe the 50th aniversary of Chapman bring this back as a Retro custom.

I modded my OG ML3 with dual push push pots and a 4-way switch so I could have both parallel or series middle positions with Seymour Duncan P-Rails and Triple Shot pickup rings so I was able to do every combination of pickup configuration possible. One pot put them out of phase the other made it so it bypassed the volume so I could have the volume rolled back and then just bop it and bam, dirty tone! Now I have it set up in an Open C tuning ala Devin Townsend.

I had the MIK (was it the first series?) Chapman ML3. By the time I had it I was very much into black metal so I swapped the pickups for EMGs, chrome hardware for black and literally smeared the top with the thickest matte black finish I could find so it looked like I pulled it from the tar pit. Was pretty cool but I sold it and sadly don't have any pictures left.
