It was said not too long ago that democracy had finally conquered totalitarian systems, and that economic growth would save every country on earth for a long time. The situation is different today. Democracy looses ground when voters seek authoritarian leadership at the same time as economic growth and green technology are being increasingly questioned solutions to climat crisis. In short, we need to rethink. Do we need a new economic political system to handle the social and ecological crises we face and are already in? Do we even need capitalism?
In two new books, two serious attempts to discuss these crucial questions are made. In her acknowledged book The end of Capitalism, the German economic journalist Ulrike Herrmann claims that the climat crisis demands a radical reorganization of modern economy. In Grundbulten, political scientist Bo Rothstein puts our post liberal era to the test and argues in favor of an innovative liberal socialism.
Welcome to a conversation about two of the matters of fate of our time: the decline of democracy and climat crisis. Ulrike Herrmann and Bo Rothstein are joined on stage by sociologist Roland Paulsen. How can a vision of a sustainable future be formulated?

Bo Rothstein, Professor Emeritus in Political science, University of Gothenburg
Ulrike Herrmann, Economic Journalist
