I'm going against the grain here FOR SURE, but my usage of some older "dream theory" evidence is because I don't believe dream theory was ever the intended answer. Scott has publicly joked about the idea of a dream theory on several occasions and hasn't taken it seriously which means all our hints regarding the connection between crying child's memories and the events in the games have to mean something else. AT LEAST THATS MY OPINION (just a theory)

When something goes wrong with something someone did, people will tend to make fun of their own actions. The reasons for this vary: maybe deflection, maybe as a defense mechanism from shame, maybe they just changed their opinions on their own work. Scott joking about Dream Theory _later_ doesn't discredit that he may have originally intended it _at first,_ once FNaF 4 rolled around and he needed a story reason for it to exist since FNaF 3 was the originally intended ending.

Something that really convinces me that dream theory was just never it is the fact that FNAF 4 is in 1983. It’s a unique sort of thing in FNAF 4 because everything else in the game seems to just reference the previous 4 games. Why would he move the game to 1983? I think the reason is that the timeline would actually be contradicted if it were in 1987 since FNAF 4 shows Fredbear’s and FNAF 2 says that Fredbear’s has been closed for years in 1987. The 1983 Easter egg is meant to connect FNAF 4 with the previously established timeline.

There’s a massive flaw with this entire theory. William Afton is still the creator of Fnafworld, his own agony (OMC is 100% William. “Step Closer” establishes this) and memories (The Grayman. Aka, William regrets from creating the games and the funtimes) still linger there. Update 2 was the canonical software update that “changed” the continents of the box. Fnaf SL establishes that William built the nightmares then implemented them into his canonically portable creation (the Atari), worked on the CC, and what we saw in FNAF world (the box) at this location. Update 2 also shows us the point when someone tried to kill William for exposing/leaking the dark nature of his work. Meaning, Henry/Fazbears were the true masterminds behind the horrors and treated him like the other workers, disposable waste. William also deeply cared for the CC and connected himself to the memories of being Fredbear. Hence why Fredbear talks about “putting you back together”. His soul (OMC. Please read “Step Closer”) as well as Cassidy’s and the Shadow Freddy are voicing this being. Each of them appeared in Princess Quest. Plus, the “One you shouldn’t have killed” purposely taunted his killer by voicing of all things, HENRY’S creations. Not William’s creations. HENRY’S creations. If William was the man that killed him, he wouldn’t have possessed animatronics that are more personal to Henry. You see, “Midnight Motorist” is actually a prequel to “Save Him”. The victim is the MCI killer’s son. “The one he shouldn’t have killed.” Since William was planning to leak the truth from his Atari mini games and Henry planned to bury it, it’s clear William was the one that made the atari arcade cabinets (fnaf6) to sneakily let the public know the truth Fazbears was desperately trying to bury. Why would the “evil one” reveal the truth? And most importantly, try to save the children’s souls with love and appreciation (Happiest Day) over Henry’s manipulation, death, and destruction?

Michael is heavily heavily hinted to be the CC from the Survival Logs (messages from William to Michael have Michael recall his own bad birthday experiences from fnaf2 and fnaf4. Experiences we know have the birthday boy get his head chomped on). Michael saw the nightmare animatronics, meaning he was the intended person (aka CC) to retrieve the Atari the Nightmares, the box, and Fnaf World are connected to. Michael also didn’t show up at the fnaf6 location. Both Baby and Henry admitted the fnaf6 player wasn’t the intended target (Michael). Instead, it was the player character displayed in “Fruity Maze”, Susie. To more accurately have the box be opened, the CC/Michael shall not lock himself into it. The box is the key metaphor for locking away bad memories. Instead of CC’s agony somehow influencing the full scope of Freddy’s. It makes way more sense for William Afton to create literal living animatronics like the Puppet and base him on his beloved son. For this man to look (from the Fredbear plushies. SL and fnaf4 establishes this) at the toys and the kids playing with them to create animatronics like Toy Chica, Ballon Boy (based on a literal fat boy with a balloon), and Plushtrap.

This is one of those theories where narratively, it feels unsatisfying, but when you combine all the evidence, a little twinge in your guts says it's probably the truth. And that sucks lol. Respect man. Scott did say he wondered if the fans would even accept the true answer. I did once ponder if the games were about just a kid playing with dolls. I've always wondered if all the games were centered around a singular incident, but told in a different way each time, and this is probably the answer to what I was feeling. My favourite theory up until this point was one about an Atari 2600 being inside the box, as the same people in real life that designed it also designed the software for the Chuck e Cheese Animatronics and that somewhere along the way, an AI was made. Once again, fuck, great job.

(just a suggestion: Maybe if the theory referenced that video, even to just saying "previously I theorized-", it'd not only link the two videos, but incentivize people who haven't watched that Atari video. but also, It would be neat to see a literal fusion of the two theories, at a surface glance it doesn't seem too hard. the pieces put to gather = the memories of crying child shaping reality = his recreation of events through Atari games he makes using the same system he had in his childhood, symbolizing him creating much of reality.) I think they have some loose ends, but still- I think it's a good theory, it feels on track to what Scott intended(and why he said some might not accept it), and I've always been of the idea that dream theory is at least partially right, just what 'part' of it is that is the difficult question.

Technically, the Gift Boxes Charlotte gives the four contain Remnant, as they're able to bring those who have died back to life, just like Remnant, so, if this Remnant originated from Crying Child, that would explain how they all contain a piece of the Crying Child.

Why, though? There's no reason why Matpat has to see it. This is a theory, and it was put forward by a theorist. As long as the theory makes sense, it doesn't matter who presents it. I really think the FNAF community needs to stop looking at Matpat as some kind of authority figure, because it's not healthy for the community, and it's not healthy for MatPat. Sure, he's spent the last several years making FNAF theories, but at the end of the day, he's just a member of the community, same as anyone else. He doesn't have secret insider knowledge, he doesn't have a direct link to Scott Cawthon, and he doesn't have any influence over the way these games are made (in theory, at least...) I'm really tired of people saying "Get Matpat on this!" Or "Matpat needs to see this!". Matpat's just a guy. Same as anyone else.

Not very related but I recently figured out why the fnaf4 bite was the bite of 83 and not 87 like Scott was hinting before release, it’s bc the crying child didn’t survive after losing his frontal lobe like in the bite of 87. Scott most likely realized this discrepancy and changed the date last minute to 83

3:10 I think Dream Theory was the _original_ intent, which is why the story got so weird after/with Sister Location - he had to retroactively justify things that were originally just part of a series of dreams, since they were retconned into being real. Sire Squawks has a video about this that goes more in-depth into this idea than MatPat's initial video on this, and it's a pretty compelling presentation that the "one major retcon" Scott made was making the FNaF games _not_ take place in dreams. Also, the screenshot you used could easily be a sarcastic or self-deprecating joke. 5:48 Maybe that's just how Scott draws ghosts? They didn't have individual identities at that point, so why make them look different? He hadn't intended to even name them until later. Are you suggesting that Crying Child _literally_ became 5 different ghosts? Doesn't that invalidate the whole MCI? Something else to note is that a lot of your evidence comes from _after_ FNaF 4 came out, like the novels and Sister Location, at which point the retcon had already taken place, and thus doesn't provide good evidence about the _original_ intent. Heck, _remnant_ wasn't even a thing by the time of FNaF 4, let alone _agony._

I respect that take a lot, in my opinion, 1. There's been multiple occasions of Scott basically joking about the idea, it just doesn't sit right with me. With the first 3 games he has no problem complimenting the theories made and verifying their accuracy, but he kind of makes a joke out of it for the 4th. 2. With the ghosts, I was trying to draw a connection between how the similarities between them could be referring to how they all contain a piece of crying child 3. I feel the story constantly changes overtime. Supporting evidence later on could be used as little easter eggs to point more eyeballs to what we were supposed to get out of the story the first time. And again if we're assuming "dream theory" never was intended based on Scott's reaction all the evidence has to point to something else. The story is constantly evolving as Scott changes the lore, so maybe the process in which this memory/agony transfer wasn't fully fleshed out, and the evidence made later on was meant to add on to what he intended it to be as well as making callbacks that acted as little clues. But again it's just my opinion/other posts I've seen supporting it and it's all just a theory :)

@@halal_spider9722 tl;dr: CC got the Ghost Juice all over the FNAF 1s, which the Puppet later utilized to give life to the MCI kids. It ALL happened, for the most part, CC simply plays a much larger role. Happiest Day can happen without MASSIVELY impacting the plot, basically.

Whoa, this would really explain William's motives in The Fourth Closet! Or at least what led to him making the Funtime animatronics in the first place. He dismantled each of the original animatronics and melted down pieces of them to collect their agony, their remnant. Then he injected that agony into the Funtime animatronics, which is why destroying Ennard/Molten Freddy was so important in setting the ghosts free. Because they'd never technically be free as long as a piece of their spirits were left on Earth. But maybe the reason William did all that in the first place wasn't just to test the power of Remnant, create a monster he could control, or become immortal (though those are still very much motives), but because he needed remnant from all four of the original animatronics so he could put Crying Child back together.

Research also suggests that the frontal lobe is key in long-term memory development. CC’s bite and the BO87 could be another memory parallel there. Like his memories influenced all the happenings from that point onward based specifically on all of the last memories he could ever form, even if he did survive. Ngl, this is my favorite theory so far. Keep it up dude!

From my point of view of the box, I imagine that the box is all the previous pizzerias all combined that started the FNAF universe and lore. A box that would eventually open and release all the memories and the agony it brought with it. With the box finally being opened, everything can finally rest in it’s boulevard.

This makes more sense than any other theory about the box out there. I do have one issue with this video, not talking about the box at all, that I do need to clear up: The Puppet and the Crying Child are not the same. It was Charlotte Emily, or Charlie, who became the Puppet. The Crying Child was one of two souls inside of Golden Freddy, with the other being Cassidy.

The original idea of fnaf 4 was to make the crying child be the kid who took over the puppet, striped shirt and the tears are clear references to the puppet, but there are more hidden references like: in the end of the fnaf 4 last minigame (the "i'll put you back together" one) the crying child does the exact same pose the puppet does in the fnaf 3 balloon boy (?) Minigame does where the "shadow puppet" does the pose, it was a clear proof that we didn't notice back then.

@@InternetInferno You see, my problem is that your theory relies a lot on a dream theory offshoot. All the signs have always pointed to dream theory, and the two possible reasons are that it's a coincidence or that (more likely) it was the original ending to the story, Binding of Isaac "He was dead the WHOLE TIME!" ending that nobody likes, difference being that this time we know he was dead, so the reveal of it being *him* in the box isn't a reveal at all, it's just pointing to something we already know. The reasons that would make him being in the box make sense are just the steps leading up to Dream Theory, which you kind of recited verbatim in your explanation. *We already know he's dead. Why would his body in the box make any sense if we already know Dream Theory is no longer canon?*

For one, the Marionette connections Crying Child has, if he was Nightmarionne, he's a reflection of the Marionette, which is how he's referred to in UCN, Nightmarionne resembles the maskless-Shadow Puppet sprite from Mangle's Quest in FNaF 3, who not only stars a kid playing with a mangle toy who has FNaF World's Crying Child's stand in's clothes, it later has the Shadow Puppet, who has striped arms, and stripe-less legs like Nightmarionne, and is in the same position as Crying Child at the end of FNaF 4. Nightmarionne is also missing their mask in Sister Location, It would also make sense for Nightmarionne to be in the Box, due to it being the only Puppet we have yet to see directly come out of a box, of which, once Nightmarionne escapes his box, he will not go back inside, Crying Child is claustrophobic after all... and doesn't like dark basements, Another thing, Nightmarionne is the only new character model for FNaF 4 Halloween Edition, although that would make sense, if he was a pre-existing model, meant to be what you see when you opened the Box, In FNaF World, we're told that the "Puppet Master" is the one pulling the strings, strings we later see in FNaF 6's teasers, in FNaF World's final boss, the Puppet Master fights us using their puppet, known as "Animdude", Animdude is made up of 4th Walls, and guess who can also create 4th Walls in FNaF World? Nightmarionne. Also in FNaF World, in the files there's the render of the open Box, along with the track known as "Ice Cave", letting us know that whatever is connected to the Box is also connected to the cold, FNaF World's Animdude boss fight music is known as "Stone Cold", in the background we hear the cranking of the music box, along with the brainwave lines on the hospital monitor, which noticeably switch between purple and blue, these hospital brainwave lines are connected to Crying Child, due to us learning of his death through a noticeable flatline at the end of FNaF 4. Another thing to note, Phantom Marionette, who has Nightmarionne's eyes and teeth, has the loading screen message "Put it back inside the Box!", as if they've escaped the Box, which is clear as the Box itself is open in the files. In FNaF Security Breach, Nightmarionne uses plushies of himself as cameras around the Pizzaplex, mimicking the Fredbear plushies that used to spy on himself when he was younger. I don't quite understand. CCs memory is behind all of the lore related events, as you said. So everything that happens, is in his head, yet not in a dream, right? Because how can the crying child (only by his pain/agony in his life) cause all the murders and bad events that happened in relation with Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, and most importantly with the Purple Guy? Yeah I’m a bit lost with this theory too. So if all the ghosts/spirits have a piece of CC with them, does that mean CC isn’t a half of Golden Freddy with Cassidy? I thought the survival logbook heavily implied they were sharing the suit, or joined together. Or maybe CC’s spirit is inside Golden Freddy, but his memories (agony) are split between the rest of the animatronics? And if so, what role does agony play in shaping the games? Is it not a dream, is it the power source for all the supernatural stuff like remnant, or are these just memories? Well “what’s seen in the shadows in misunderstood in the eyes of a child” is a big hint given to us. CC SEES Purple Guy stuffing a man into a suit, and misinterprets this as a murder. This partnered with a little girl remarking how “they come to life at night” and “they hide your body and never tell” is what I attribute to the memories/agony influencing the murders

I figured I'd note that the snake only ever eats one kitten, and instead of five kittens dying, five nights pass before the child cuts the snake open and puts the pieces of the one dead kitten back together. It's weird, and I have no idea how it affects this theory, but it seemed important to point out. SHEEEEEESH Slam dunk right there, loved the coverage on bvDestiny theory memories and agony and stuff, and BV GIVES LIFE TO HIS IMAGINARY FRIENDS EXPLAINS PUPPET BEHAVIOR LATER ON SHEEEESH so big brain right there though i think -i dunno if follow me represents them coming together to form the crying child, it seems more like the animatronics break apart, release the spirits, and then golden freddy's spirit comes out 5th after freddy bonnie chica foxy -the redsnake, if is agony, id think is agony generated from the mci rather than the bite, as a reference to William killing the kids making them go from alive to dead -I think another allegory for candy cadet's stories would be them making molten freddy/ennard instead of pieces for the box due to molten mci, the kids do come together like in the stories, the lady's story involves a furnace, its stories relating to the 5 kids, but we don't know for sure if the 5 kids are the pieces, the 5 kids do seem to have some sort of place in the graveyard like the story where the fused things got buried/henry putting them to rest as molten freddy (but the bodies were missing so i dunno) -the sprite for the dead kids + tear streaks could be bv's fault, but then again, if u think charlie dies first then charlie would be the first to have the tear-streaked kid sprite, and the crying might just be a natural reaction to the pain or fear the kids experienced but like you're totally right about the spirits' involvement, as bringing them back together requires playing minigames that have connections to bite victim's memories(presumably the pieces), making it seem like bringing them back together is bringing the pieces back together. thinking about it now, yeah bv shooting out his memories into the plushies is GENIUS, it explains how these spirits got these memories and why they're in there in fnaf 3, gives an opportunity for bv to give them those memories, and from the og spirits can then infect the toy animatronics like toy chica's beak coming off and bite of 87 vrs 83 once the old parts are used in the toys like phone guy says. though i do wonder how if most of the agony or memories is with the spirits, how it could influence other random stuff like bv being in the parts in service room on night 4, while phone guy calling on night 4 to tell us to check the heads in the back before he dies (parts and service room), the theoretical 6th kid who may have died under the table in save them as most of the blood puddles are very close to the original bodies with one lonesome stain under a table, getting memories sent into plushtrap, and an afton related spring suit death in fnaf 3. so it does seem like his memories can also influence just random events so i dunno if they're all fully contained in the spirits, or maybe it just leaks a bit further out from the spirits.

I just thought of this, but what if the reason that candy cadet says those stories is because Afton has actually been killing these kids in order to bring back his son. If the timeline is correct then his son died first, and wouldn’t the line. I’ll bring you back together again kind of correlate with what candy cadet was saying where someone felt guilty and just try to bring back the kittens/children who are actually a reference to bringing back his one child out of the 5 kids he murdered. I think that that would be an interesting idea.

But there was only one kitten eaten, not all five. He let the snake eat one to satisfy it but after 5 days he couldn't take the guilt and cut the snake up, then sew together the remains of that one kitten, putting it back with the others. So I don't think that supports your interpretation exactly but it's still interesting that he puts together a *broken* kitten (as in a *child* cat) then returned it to it's siblings. Idk, Charlie perhaps? Henry didn't want to deal with Afton becoming more unhinged and his child became his victim, a child that he put together as robot and returned to her friends. There's a lot of things it could represent though, and I enjoyed your interesting interpretation.

It was kinda obvious that the original idea of fnaf 4 was to make the crying child be the one possessing the puppet, since the crying child has a striped shirt, makes the exact same pose as the puppet sprite from fnaf 3 balloon boy minigame does. They have tears going down their faces and the list goes on.
