@nsp65905 жыл бұрын
There is definitely a market for manual PERFORMANCE cars. I don't hear anyone complaining about little cars with 1.0L engines becoming automatic in the masses. It's the automatic sports cars shoved down everyone's throat that people complain about. And having paddle shifters in high end sports cars does make sense since theoretically they can be used on a track and so reducing the time spent changing gears is important. But what on earth is the point of having a 500hp mustang as an automatic? Not even paddle shifters. Just full-on auto. There is no reason to drive anything like that. And the biggest issue is that it's beginning to look a lot like we won't even have an option at all in a few years. It seems fair to me that at least the models could be offered as both automatic and manual especially since clearly so many people want manuals. The market is anything but dying out.
@stockwelledits39485 жыл бұрын
@@dylanwazthere exactly my point, people who want manuals have no say in the current market for them, since they can't afford them. If the mass of consumers aren't buying the new manuals available, manufactures won't produce them. It's just the sad reality of such a fun transmission type.

@benmackey87775 жыл бұрын
I don't think we're going to see manuals disappear just like that. Over 80% of the cars on the road in Europe are manual, and they're still many manufacturers that offer manual transmissions like, Audi, BMW, Ford, Skoda, Seat, Aston Martin, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Toyota, Nissan, Dacia, Volkswagen, Mercedes, just to name a few. But less then 5% of new cars in North America are Manual, and the problem is that Americans are just lazy. They don't want to deal with an hour long commute, bumper to bumper, in a manual car. But us as car guys will put up with it. I have people ask me, "Why do you drive a manual car? It's just more work, and more to try to think about while driving. Why don't you just get an automatic, its easier to drive". But we don't just drive manuals because they are easier. hell, autos are now faster and more fuel efficient than ever. But we dive them for joy, for that sweet sweet feeling of rowing through the gears on a back country road. But manufacturers don't care how good that feels, they care about how much money they roll in. So if autos are what's selling in the U.S. then that's what automakers will make. And also, if everyone drove manual cars, and knew everything about cars, then there would be nothing to make us different from the norm. But at the end of the day, the real thing we should be fighting... are the electric cars
@dyIanVII5 жыл бұрын

Manuals are more engaging true. But in heavy traffic and when you have a bad knee but still can’t afford 2 cars to commute, auto transmission can be so helpful. Plus many people live in traffic dense areas. There’s no harm in having both but we can’t dictate what manufacturers do in their car factories.

I like that the new A1 still comes with manual and 150 horsepower. Also the new Focus ST is strictly manual. There is still a lot of people that want manuals. My dad for example says that until he won't be able to press the clutch pedal, he will drive a manual.

It's purely regional tbh, seems like in Europe there's no shortage of new cars with manuals but in the US they're dying off because no one buys them - because however many years ago, automatics took over.

Manual for life! I've driven an automatic only once, it was a friend's car, and I have to say NO THANK YOU. It wasn't about the speed, cuz it was shifting far faster than me. No, it was about the feel. It didn't feel like I was doing anything involving, it made me feel disconnected from the car, like I was playing a video game. The day the manual dies will be a grim one...

I would agree with your video that there is much joy to be had when driving a manual car, not even beginning to list the benefits of having complete control over your vehicles shift points. BUT. That being said, you have to keep in mind just because the car community (primarily referring to car enthusiasts more focused on performance) is a smaller fraction of the driving community out of the entire world of every day drivers. Being a car enthusiast and owning a manual would become more of a hobby than anything because people value time and convenience. Just because a group of car enthusiasts ask for a manual doesn’t mean they’ll give. They’re in the business to compete and make money. You can kiss your future Mustangs and Corvettes goodbye if they fail to compete with more mass desires vehicles, although I completely agree with owning a manual. It’s just the truth that has to be acknowledged.

I'm not even old enough to drive yet, but I will be in a year and a half. I don't want my time to come just for there to be no manuals around for me to drive. All the cars I've dreamed of owning are manual, but are turning automatic, for example the Noble M600 is a manual beast, but the new Noble is said to be automatic. Same is said for the Charger Hellcat to Demon. By the time I turn 20-25 all the cars around me will be automatic. Us car enthusiasts are living in a world that will unfortunately become a relic of the past, something that saddens me and countless others a lot.

_ I received my chauffer's licence (highest class at the time) in 1963 and you had to pass the test at over 80% driving a standard transmission car. Since then I have owned 5 Manual Transmission cars and 6 Automatic Transmission cars. The automatic turned out to be much more practical and convenient as I and my family aged . _ Nowadays, I would not even consider a manual transmission. _ Yes: the manual transmission cars will disappear - EVOLUTION - and survival of the fittest.
