This was such a beautiful scape 😍 What do you put in here next?

I will do another simple planted tank. I still need to see what extra fish I have in my other aquariums before deciding what I will add here next. Cheers Jen

A simple setup is also simple to take down, something I will have to remember. I'm already dreading the day I have to take down the Rio125, but we'll see. 😅 Although I'm using plants from different sources, I only ever got Bladdersnails, which is fine. I didn't do any work on the tanks I am supposed to set up. Too many ideas, too little time. Too little motivation as well, but that will pass. I'll stick to maintenance for the time being. 👍

To be perfectly honest taking down aquariums is much more tiresome than building them haha. I always try to save as much as I can from the previous scape. So I try to "recycle" plants, hardscape, soil and sometimes even sand and gravel if they are in good condition. It is good when I cut down the cost of building the next aquarium by 60-80% as I am sure you know aquarium "thingies" cost too much. I mean 1kg stones is 5-7€; thats crazy. I remember when I build that paludarium the lava stone I ordered was from a garden center and the price was only 0.1€ per kg....

Yes, building feels better than tearing down, I agree. I've gathered a bit of hardscape options over the last year, and I am not done yet, but I also plan to recycle as much as possible for future projects. I mean, the piece of Hornwood I bought for the UNS 60U cost 76,20 euro, so yeah...

The worst wood I found so far is Manzanita. It is so soft and it completely fell apart after just two aquascapes. Probably it was 4-6 months below the water. Wood being organic material and falling apart in the water is algae magnet; especially for BBA.

Hornwood seems pretty sturdy. Heavy too, I don't think I have to glue it to the rocks. Spiderwood seems okay as well, but needs to be glued. Speaking of algae: given that the light is at 100% and the cleanup crew consists only of Bladdersnails, there is only some Wire algae on the tips of Cyperus helferi, but nowhere else. And some diatoms on the side glass, but that's okay. Dark start for the win. 😅

I did dark start only once, I think I heard first time about it from MJ.

Ideally, I like the fish involved, in my tanks, to live out their lifespans before I break down the tank & do something new. ^^
