do not rush growing algae. it will develop over time. better to cultivate it in a bottle seperately that you shake now and then. Or go collect some algae covered rocks in a clean coldwater and foam free stream to kickstart. the algae we like prefers cooler temps and lots of light to grow. 25°C should not be exceeded.

May I ask why they are called "gold" when they're actually pink? Is this just a fish keepers anomaly, like horticulturists call a grey rose blue? Lovely little fish they are too. I bought 32 of them for various ponds outdoors, tiny babies, just waiting for them to turn from pink to gold/yellow.

This aquarium is 120x45x30 and it has 10mm glass, for this height 8mm would be enough but it was custom made so I decided to increase the glass thickness.

Awww... I hope Little Quasimodo has a long and pleasant stay in this aquarium. My Amano shrimps are weird. I NEVER see them. But maybe they left the aquarium already and are lying somewhere, where I will find them in 6 months time... After tomorrow I'll have 2 weeks holiday which will involve visiting a few aquarium shops, maintenance on existing tanks, work in the house and garden and lots of eating... Merry Xmas to you and your loved ones.

@@frankvermeulen4621 Holiday sounds amazing. Have fun, relax and recharge. You are lucky enough to have aquarium shops around you. There is only one aquarium shop in Croatia that is 450kms away from me. I went 2 years ago to Vienna to visit Garnelaxia, which was an amazing shop.

Never heard of Garnelaxia, but I do know of Liquid Nature, also in Vienna. Maybe I'll visit the region in the future, including Green Aqua in Budapest.

@@frankvermeulen4621 they specialize in shrimps (Neocaridina and Caridina) and nano fish as well. As far as I know they deliver livestock all over the EU.

I did some much needed maintenance on the UNS 60U. The flow from the filter was almost non-existent, so I did a full clean and got it running properly again. 😅 I also transferred a handful on young A. crispus- offshoots to the Rio 125 (I've yet to plant them). If you can get hold of them, I highly recommend them. And... I went insane and ordered both the 10l and 20l Dennerle cubes. Only ones missing now are the 35l scaperstank and the 60l cube. 🤣

@@frankvermeulen4621 yeah but did you know all the cubes and dennerle aquariums have both float glass and opti-white version? You need to collect them all and after that Dennerle will build your statue in front of their headquarters haha

why is gas buildup in the soil bad for aquariums?

@@RainingRain314 Hydrogen sulfide is a product from the metabolism of anaerobic bacteria in the low oxygen part of your substrate. Sometimes it can get released from your soil and kill your fish (rarely).

Want to ask: the HOB filter on the first tank is a Seachem Tidal (35, I think)? What's your experience with it? Pros and Cons? Not that I am buying one anytime soon, but it's nice to have some options for the future.

@@frankvermeulen4621 35 is the smallest one and it doesn't have the intake telescope tube. All the bigger ones have a tube. It's OK for a display aquarium because I can clean it easily. I use one in the shrimp breeding aquarium and I had to add a bunch of sponge around the motor to prevent small shrimplets getting sucked in. Also the skimmer thing is useless. It doesn't work on 35 or 55 I have both.

@@vinny0406 size doesn't matter, you need to selection aquariums that are long and wide but shallow. Those are the best aquariums for a River setup.

@@vinny0406 you can have a look on my channel I created a couple of River aquariums and they were all long, wide and shallow. Unfortunately when I created my next River setup this was the only free aquarium I had at the time. So yeah you can create it in any kind of aquarium but if you can choose you definitely want to go with long, wide and shallow aquarium.

Are you worried at all about the soil becoming anaerobic because of the thick soil layer and no filter? Please answer! Also love your videos!

@@Aps2145 the soil is "normal" thickness. If I remember correctly it is 4cms foreground and 7-8cms background. Also the soil can "breathe" because it is not compact like sand. 5cms of sand and 5cms of soil is not the same. Cheers
