Still something I need to do myself sometime; sofar, I haven't gotten around to buy a small bowl or cube because I am lazy. The Neocaridina sp. I have in a 30l cube would be perfect for this kind of setup, because they remain pretty small (and breed like maniacs). How often do shrimp shed their skin? I added 5 Amano shrimp to another tank 1.5 months ago, I only see 2 occasionally, but within that time I have found 5 exoskeletons (last one yesterday). Does this mean all 5 could be still alive, or is it just the two shedding their skin repeatedly? Anyway, nice and easy and almost costfree setup. Thanks for the overview.

@@frankvermeulen4621 Shrimps do it often especially when they are tiny because they grow out of their skin fast haha. The bigger they get the period between molting is farther apart. So when they are adults they do it every couple of weeks. My oldest Amano Loosy from the first video series on this channel is 4.5 years in my care and she still molts. She is huge. Good overview. A couple of questions/remarks: - water TDS/EC: just today I received a TDS-meter. and my tapwater is 500+ micro Siemens/cm at 22.5 degrees Celsius, which seems excessive. I think you used tapwater in this aquarium? What is your TDS like? - Chihiros light: I've got a couple for my Dennerle scapers and cube tanks and they are alright. Do you use the app or do you just set them on "manual" and use a mechanical timer? - Staghorn algae: I've had a few instances, and I cleaned off the most obvious bits, but they did indeed just disappear over time. And as a sidenote: the small shrimp of which I bought 10 but got close to 20, are constantly breeding. I see berried females and shrimplets every week. I can't tell if they grow up, but I am going to add Bacter AE to help a bit.
@IMaqua
@IMaqua 12 күн бұрын
- Converted 500+ micro Siemens is around 320ppm. My aquarium are usually in a range 140-180ppm (with tropica soil because it lowers pH) and shrimp breeding aquariums (inactive gravel and sand) and bare bottom tanks are in a range 190-250ppm. I use tap water in all my aquarium apart from two Corydoras breeding aquariums (Sterbai and Gold laser) where I use pure RO and the there I usually have 0-50ppm. - Most of my Chihiros lights are AII (cheap version) and I always set all through the mobile app (times on/off and intensity AKA brightness). - I had the same experience with Staghorn algae myself. Just trim the infected leaves and it should disappear. Patience is a key here. - They will grow but in a small aquarium they will eventually reach equilibrium where the limiting factor is food. Yes Bacter AE is good but be careful. Start with a very little amount as too much can wipe your colony. Start with 1/3 recommended dose and increase it with time.

This is a case of "the more I find out, the less I know". 🤣 Yes, my tapwater is around 300 ppm (depending on temperature) and my aquariums are around 350 ppm (because they are slightly warmer, I guess). The UNS60U is even at 380, although I am using ADA aquasoil, wood and rocks that "should not" alter parameters significantly. RO-system will have to wait until next month... @@IMaqua I don’t know. I still miss Mr. bulldog.😕 What is it hard to get them to breed?
@IMaqua
@IMaqua 16 күн бұрын
@@jenpink4298 I miss him as well. He was goofy and eccentric. To be honest I didn't like these gobies when I got them but after having them for almost 5 months I changed my opinion recently. They can't swim and they jump like little rabbits all over the bottom. I had 5 unsuccessful breeding attempts haha so yeah it definitely was not easy to breed them.
