To this day, I still believe the entire Escape Sequence from the Blender all the way to the NILS Statue is the absolute best when it comes Splatoon Single Player. The fact Eight’s canonically on one life through it all, the stakes getting higher and higher as you’re also ascending up to the surface, the music motivating you, and that big reveal in the finale, which was nothing BUT mind-blowing for Splatoon players at the time of this dlc’s release. It’s just an absolute blast no matter how many times I’ve replayed it.

I will still stand by the fact that Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion had amazing highs that Splatoon 3 never reached. This final fight was anxiety inducing when I was younger but in a way that made me want to give it my all. And when you got that final cutscene of 8 falling and Pearl shooting back at the statue with her killer wail, it was incredible. Octo Expansion is the reason I prefer Splatoon 2 over 1 and 3. Off the Hook are still the best Splatoon idols in the series to me.

@@yggdrasilsaltar Respect your opinion but honestly it just felt pretty identical to Octo Expansion’s ending. The grizz showdown was great and him being the villain kept me invested, but the rest of the story mode was a little forgettable. Side Order’s felt a little underwhelming at first but made sense on repeat playthroughs. However neither of Splatoon 3’s offerings held up to what Octo Expansion had to offer. Still one of if not the best DLC expansion of all time.

one of my favourite subtle things about OE is that the octo shot replica has splat bomb and inkjet, which are the sub and special you used during the escape sequence. sure it's just a copy of the ttek kit, but the game makes it feel meaningful, as if eight is bringing their actual gun they escaped from the murder subway with into turf war

I remember losing to the NILS by a single hyperbomb on my first attempt... Seeing a doomsday bad ending in Splatoon for the first time was so unique! Made me realize just how much potential lore still has going forward. Branching storylines could be interesting! (Like switching between different agent characters who join your squad or something)

For now though glad you got to replay Octoexplansion, I think it is one of the highlights for Splatoon with it being fresh, really fleshing out Off the Hook and having such an interesting final boss fight

Ever since the day that Octo Expansion dropped, I’ve NEVER knew about that hidden super jump pad underneath the speedy missile octocopter. I’ve also noticed that the power core escort phase during the escape sequence is a precursor to the turbine escort levels in Side Order, but for the latter, it’s a miniaturized version of that, and you don’t have to worry about the turbine taking damage. (Since it’s not a “protect the core” objective, or in this case: protecting the turbine from exploding you to smithereens.😅) If there were to be a Splatoon spin-off, I’d love for it to be an expansion of Side Order, that also has some elements of Octo Expansion in it for extra challenges to make it more challenging, especially for more experienced players. It’ll even offer more floors, challenges, and special event floors that Side Order normally didn’t have before, making it into an even BIGGER experience! It also needs a good story for it too, much along the lines of Octo Expansion’s storyline, or even better!
