please, no fan theories about Jonah and the gunshot bang. It was at Mel. Jonah had a plan to return to his old life in Chicago and that was clearly established when he asked Charlotte if she'd go get the milkshakes with him when they got back, so mentally he was already back home and couldn't wait. Mel became an abrupt, massive wrench in that plan and Jonah wasn't going to allow it. Furthermore, supporting this is what happened, he was aimed directly at Mel and Marty gave the approval to Jonah via his expression. And Jonah then shut his eyes to prepare for the kill-shot, as Buddy had taught him. Done. Boom. Mic drop. No plausibility for ANYTHING else
@dawnwalton10992 жыл бұрын
The only thing better would have been if Jonah had of killed the private investigator and his mom for killing his uncle. Jonah was threw with her until she forced them to stay and even then he really wasn't to fond of his mom. That would have been a great ending. It's what fans were hoping for. To see Wendy go down and what better way than having the private investigator talking about the uncle's death over his ashes and Jonah come out and shot them both.

@@dawnwalton1099 Fans were hoping for…….they don’t know lol the most profound and appealing aspect of Ozark is one simple thing; it’s unpredictability. No one knew where this was going at all. The last few episodes made a point to convey that they still love each other and are willing to do the most depraved things to ensure their relationship and keep the kids with them. I however can’t fully trust Wendy to not put Marty in a perilous situation like going back to Mexico.
@walterwang20112 жыл бұрын
I don't think Wendy and Marty are destined to have a bad ending, if that was the case, what about the drug company, the FBI, the corrupt politicians? The entire season 4 was about bad people getting away for free, as they have in real life.
@ramonalejandrosuare2 жыл бұрын
I agree. If anything, the ending suggests that they are partners in crime. Any sense of morality or even individual difference has been conditioned out of them by the dire necessity of their situation. They are both on the same page.
@TwoBs2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I get people have a serious hate-boner for Wendy, but it couldn’t be any more clearer … they’re going to stick together. They’re meant for each other. Marty even told her after everything they’ve been through and did for each other along with their family, it basically sealed the deal that they’re going to remain with each other for their marriage and family. Wendy spent a big part of the show trying to show she can run things. She wanted to prove to Marty that she could do it and be useful. She did - she used her political act to help them tremendously. It took Marty a long time to come to that realization as Marty spend a big part trying to retain control. He let it weight heavy on his mind that he got the family in this mess with it being his sole responsibility to get them out. It’s why we hear them always arguing about being on the same page. Yes, the “same page” was in reference to their parenting, but it signified much more just as this video explained. In the end, they realized they both are in control and they both get things done together. They realized they need each other. Wendy doesn’t make him do things any more than Marty. They both make their own choices with their choices being for the benefit of them and their family. She doesn’t have to “make” him do anything … he does it willingly in the end. Hence the emphasis during the last few episodes on him actually telling Wendy out loud that he loved her and her telling it to him back with actual emotion in their voices. They’ve cemented their relationship with no turning back.

What I was surprised about was when Ruth was about to get killed wendy seemed more distraught about it than marty did and she was trying to work the problem. Martys reaction was abit calm to say Ruth was like a 2nd daughter to him.
@alleyinn12 жыл бұрын
Because the ability to lie to yourself about your own morality is essential ... even to immoral monsters. Once Ruth had served Wendy's self interest of reuniting her with her kids, Wendy's lie about Ruth's worthlessness became more difficult - which activated the modicum of conscience she has. (Wendy's set of ethics are selfish and broken.. She is IMmoral) I don't think Marty really lied to himself about their morality. He oscillates btwn a disconnected, mechanical Rainman and a simp. Marty knew what they were doing was wrong but was WILLING to do wrong to please/save his loved ones. Marty didn't have to lie to himself (he didn't have to bc he was A-moral). That's why I think they had their different reactions.
@Dilmahkana2 жыл бұрын
I think Marty was able to run through the scenarios a bit quicker and came to the conclusion it was impossible to save her. The way he looked at Claire when she caved was freaking stern in a 'you fucking coward' kinda way, but I didn't get a hint of desperation even at that point. I think Wendy was riding high from everything going perfectly, and now something has suddenly go wrong, someone hasn't gone with the plan, she can't control it. Add that to her recent 'reconcilliation' with Ruth in the ep, that emotion and connection is understandable. That's how I saw it :) Maybe Marty from S2 or S3 would've reacted differently?

Great analysis. Make a part 3 focusing on the spiritual messages. Wendy tells the priest she doesn't need saving, but begs her father (in the role of God) for forgiveness, but he's just another corrupt and fallen man who judges her harshly. The priest asks Marty if he believes in a God who offers unconditional love but he too rejects God and believes in a transactional relationship. The dichotomy between the Byrds understanding of God and his unconditional love and forgiveness and their flawed human belief in earning their way to grace by (eventually) doing good works thru their foundation is a central theme to Ozarks storyline.. I won't lie, I was rooting against The Byrdes when Marty started to do everything Wendy told him to (such a spineless simp lol). But the end does show that the cycle of violence will never stop. One thing nobody is talking about is if Three will continue the cycle of violence. He'll definitely go to Rachael for explanations and Rachael who hates Wendy and is already terrified with her current situation will definitely point to the Byrde family's direction. Another question is, will Rachael be in the state of mind to run the casino alone? Remember she's the one who actually killed Nelson and is dealing with the guilt. Finding out Rachael got killed with make her lose it. What we'll never know is how she'll lose it. Maya, who was getting close with Mel, will also find out about Mel's disappearance and take it up with the Byrdes.

Did Ruth have to die though? Legit question, why did she have to die (aside from the sins of carrying the Langmore name). I got tired of the Byrds but I was rooting for Ruth to make it….

She did way too much to get out clean, show would have lost a ton of credibility if she was kept alive in my opinion. Rip Ruth 😭

I think her death is making a lot of people forget that she's killed three people. If they had her sail off into the sunset not only would she have not gotten that incredibly powerful death scene and Ozark martyr status but then people would've been like that's not realistic, cheap fake happy mainstream ending, etc. I'd rather have an ending that's realistic than one that's happy.
@williamwoods16572 жыл бұрын
@@jodyfoster9278 except she doesn't. Ruth's death screwed up their exit. Someone has to run the casino AND launder the money. It's crucial to the FBI deal with the Cartel. They're stuck in the Ozarks in the end.
@josephmonte84232 жыл бұрын
I personally think it was a very “Soprano-esc” finale. They should of had more closure! We don’t know if Camila is coming after them? The fact that Ruth is dead does not obligate them to stay and run the Casino? WTF? Great, great show, not the best ending! Just my 2 cents!
@Esuper12 жыл бұрын
Camila made a pact with the US government through the FBI. The FBI also employ the Byrdes. All the FBI has to do is explain to her people she is a rat and game over. Not that the US would not simply shoot her themselves.

@@234446ful that’s why I’m saying Mel didn’t get shot, because he was holding the cookie jar and it would have been smashed, thereby scattering Ben’s ashes. I think he shoots his mum because she’s the cause of all the problems 🤔

Towards the ending I really had a problem with Wendy and Marty’s kids. Jonah leaving to go help Ruth really pissed me off. All the crap Marty and Wendy went through to keep them alive and Jonah just goes against the family… I’m glad the two kids came back to the family in the end. And Jonah really earned my forgiveness by shooting the guy who was f*cking with his parents. Once the kids were in on “the family business” they needed to stay in. You always back family no matter what.

Exactly , if Ben hadn’t been dealt with , then he would’ve came back to cause more trouble & probably would not only get the whole Bryde family killed , but also Ruth too !

Did not like the ending. For starters, reminded me too much like the Soprano ending. Fade ton black. Think the writers coped out and left the door open for yet another season. End the show with some conclusion.

The streets need a part 3 bro Also Can someone pls tell me why Marty and Wendy couldn’t have just been honest with Omar Navarro about his sister trying to kill him? Literally if Marty told him as soon as he found it, he would’ve had Marty call a hit on her therefore Ruth would’ve never had to be killed. And Omar could’ve been transferred to a Mexico prison and escape to run the cartel still??? I feel like a lot of people keep skipping over this part lol.
