The big problem that actually haunts me about this situation as a Liverpool fan is, WHY did we keep Simon (useless) Mignolet for so long, 1yr after Klopp took over he finally got the message and went to Mainz to get Karius (we could have had Bernd Leno or Ter-Stegen!!!! who were both available at the time but never mind) Had Mignolet been ditched under the end of Rogers tenure and certainly early in Klopps, then we would never have heard of Lorius Karius . As it is, the bloke was clearly out of his depth in the first few weeks with Klopp saying 'He's not ready' He was NEVER ready because he was MILES off being a top keeper for a major club. Very unlucky but could have easily been avoided had Klopp listened when he arrived to the criticism Mignolet was already getting for poor performances. We only bought him on the strength that he had stopped a million shots for Sunderland on their way to relegation. WHY did we get rid of Reina, stupid decision.

I also didn’t understand that about Klopp. It wasn’t just with Mignolet. He persisted in playing Thiago even though he was killing the tempo, but got rid of Gini instead. Even Henderson was a case of Klopp being persistent, when he started dropping Hendo at the end his true thoughts were actually on display. Persists with Nunez when his not playing well. I think that Klopp is just loyal to his players, and tries to give them enough chances to see if the can improve. But when he’s done with a player he is really done with them like Emre Can. Some things just didn’t make sense to me in Klopp’s thinking but it clearly was working as we did well, so it’s hard to argue about it.

I remember when Liverpool signed him. I watched clips and highlights and he seemed really impressive. But even before the disaster that was the final, he wasn't the same player that he was in Germany. You can chalk that up to being in a different league and whatnot but he always seemed so rooted, not the usual way he was prior to LFC.
@riaddaniels28235 ай бұрын
In those highlights he looks like he loses concentration every time someone takes a shot, and some of those saves where he deflects it into the path of an opponent probably worked as he was coming up, but as the opposition got better he was punished for it. It might just have been the case of a young player being good enough to make it through, but not stay on top.

I don't think Karius was particularly good for Liverpool prior to the CL final. He was OK, but not the level of keeper you want for a club as ambitious as Liverpool. Both Alisson and Kelleher are miles better than Karius ever was. I am sorry for him that he had such a nightmare evening against Real Madrid, but the plan was even before the final to find an upgrade, a clear number 1 keeper.

There are very few people in the world who can play goalie professionally. If you are towards the lower end of that small list, it's gonna be tough no matter what.
@TrashMetal19957 ай бұрын
The worst part is, if the ref had done his job in Kyiv, Ramos would have already been sitting under the shower and Karius likely wouldn't have suffered the concussion. Whether Liverpool would've gone on to win the game is hard to say, but it wouldn't have been blamed on Karius.

Goalkeepers are so vulnerable. Take Anton Mitryushkin. In his late teens, he looked the best Russian goalkeeper since Lev Yashin. Outstanding in every department. Then he sky kicked a back pass playing for Sion. Never recovered. Now, he's warming the bench at Khimki.

Oy, mister. Not only did you make a mistake in the video, but also in the description. Mario Goetze was the hero for Germany in 2014 after he scored in the final against Argentina in additional time. He debuted in the senior German team AFTER the 2010 World Cup.

He says he was elbowed in the head by Ramos. I believe him. The 2018 UCL Final was stolen by thuggery. Ramos crippled Salah then concussed Karius. Bale’s overhead was so sublime it deserved to be the winner of a fairly-fought final. Instead it capped a robbery.

I think this is thanks to the internet. Back in the days if that mistake would have happened it would be memorable but not as much as it is now. The internet now creates memes and really puts a sign on people that they cant never take out of them. It’s been 6 years since this final and people still making fun of him. It’s crazy.

I played in goal until I was 60 years old in Sunday leagues. We lost my last game 4-0 and I played what I considered a great game, even the ref said "good game Gordon" after I made a save similer ( if only a little similer) to Banks save in The World Cup. We could have lost 10 nothing. But it means nothing when you lose and nobody cares lol. Such is the life of a goalkeeper.
@MrMickao24 күн бұрын
The thing is, with 2 big mistakes in such an important match, every single mistake that he'd make in a random league game after these two look like his signature when other keepers such as De Goa (to name just one) make a lot of mistakes too which cost a lot to their team too. Also, I thought goal keepers were a family….I didn't see many of them standing for Karius.
