May 3 2015: In August 1977, psychic investigator Maurice Grosse, in answer to a call from newspaper journalist Doug Bence, visits a house in Enfield where single mother Peggy Hodgson, her daughters Janet, Margaret and Billy have reported bizarre events which they attribute to a poltergeist. Moving into the house, Maurice is convinced after a tea pot crashes from a table. He is joined by Guy Playfair, another psychic researcher and author, though Guy is cynical and believes the girls are fabricating evidence as a hoax. The Enfield Haunting Season 1 Episode 1.

I didn't even know they made a show about this case, I always felt bad for them, hauntings are so rare it's hard to believe, but they are absolutely real. Thanks for the show.

I LOVE this story and in all honesty am sightly obsessed by it. I think the girls faked some of the activities. I also think Guy just accepted the children's word for a lot of what happened without questioning it or being scared himself. For example in his book, he writes about Janet going through the wall into the next door neighbours room leaving a book there. Sure enough, there was a book exactly as described. Nobody had access expect the Peggy next door. So how did the book get there ? I don't believe that janet went through a solid wall. None of them seem to scared enough about that if it happened. I do believe some of what happened is absolutely true. Police and many other witneess wouldn't all lie about this. Another thing is about the tape. The bill voice says he died of a hemorrhage and he was 72 years old. He also said he's buried in Durrents Park Graveyard. However his cause of death was heart attack, aged 61 and he is buried at Hertford road Cemetery. I've checked his death certificate which you can see online. Surely if it really was Bill, he'd of known details about his own death. It seems the things it got wrong was likely Janet getting it wrong. I also find it odd the next door neighbours never said, upon hearing the voice that it was Bill, and he used to live here ect. It took many years after, for his son to come forward and confirm what happened. His son Terry Wilkins, confirmed that his dad did die in the manner said on tape, ( brain hemorrhage) which again contradicts the death certificate.

@andrewthaiss254 the burden of proof Is on the ones who claim it to be true. If the opposite was true, you would have great difficulty proving ghosts don't exist. One argument for the evidence that shows ghosts don't exist Is the lack of evidence for them to exist. I guess there is no way to prove either way other than believing one to be more likely than the other

@@andrewthaiss254 it's a pity I've moved or i would have invited you to my place and you would have seen for your self, thing moving, little balls of light the size of tennis balls rolling across the living room floor,my cats freezing and hissing at the door, footsteps on the stairs every morning at 4,30 the sound of light switches being turned on and off, and the sounds of mens voices upstairs. But if you don't believe in ghosts why are you here?

I attended a seminar in London regarding this very event, and the panel included Guy Playfair. He still believed the haunting was authentic even at the latter stage of his life. He seemed very genuine.

I was once married to an American (half Ukrainian) woman from Connecticut who was of Orthodox Catholic religion When she was a teenager She and her older Brother and her Father witnessed a heavy old style iron cooker move out from its place in the kitchen and balanced itself on the back corner leg and stood in a puddle of water, in the middle of the kitchen floor. Apparently her great Aunt had recently died and she liked cooking. This happened in the house where her great Uncle still lived. I don’t know why anyone would fabricate something like that.

It’s suppose to be her sisters blood which is why she makes a point of complaining about having to share the bath water and telling her brother sarcastically that she hopes he enjoys his bath. As the youngest he was to be last to bathe in the water. Puberty is said to attract poltergeists

Tash I never knew enough about energies/vibations attracting spirits. I have one spirit by my side, my guardian. I heavily depend on him for protection against dangers. I live in Gallows Hill and I keep blessed sea salt in the corners of my bedroom, same in my mother's room and sitting room. Sea salt deters negative energies and harmful entities. I only recently learned that about sea salt.

Loosely based on a true story, in the same way that Alice Is Wonderland is loosely based on historical events. In other words, total fantasy - which is fine; the tv series is very very enjoyable. Timothy Spall is terrific.
