So to explain the first leak its not that a team member that made the game the one that sold the game, it was someone that broke the embargo of the truck with copies of the game and sold it off in ebay.

The Award they won right after Release was for Technical Inovation. The whole game was basicly a Full Galaxy in 9 Gigabytes. Everything was Generated in Realtime. Nothing like this has ever been done before.

It really is amazing. I decided to reinstall the game after not having played for years, and was expecting to spend the next several hours waiting for all the new updates to download. Nope, it only took 13 minutes. It’s insane.

​@rival Thoughts same just finished a 100 hour permadeath run where I basically blitzed all the achievements. And then decided to start over in normal mode for a more relaxing version. Amazing how much it improved since the last time I picked it up, which was when this video originally dropped, not to mention since day 1.

Yeah. Although the game wasn't finish, the base of the game, the randomly generated everything was done and working. Although it didn't have too many details to work with that time, little differences.

it kept getting updated even after that internet historian video, it received like 10 more large free updates on top of the ones internet historian described, in fact the latest one dropped TODAY, with a new type of starship, corrupted planets, improvements to the virtual reality version (which is free with the base game), new enemies, new technologies, sentinel capital ships to fight huge ships and more... The game doesn't have anything you can purchase to support the developpers aside from the base game, all of these updates keep on comming for free

Back in 2020 No Man's Sky won the award for "Best Ongoing Game" at the Game Awards, basically the video game equivalent of the Oscars. IH said that some STORES broke embargo and sold the game early to someone who then put it up on ebay for a large sum. Nothing insidious there, just someone wanting to make a quick buck and crap stores that break embargo all the time not just for this game.

And just to add to this. Since this video Hello Games and No Man's Sky have released for FREE an additional 16 major updates to the game. Many are full expansion pack levels of content.

A bit of behind the storefront Info Things like this can, and often DO arrive at stores a week or more in advance Usually with stickers and tape saying not to put it out for sale until [specified date] and it is incumbent on the stores, and their employees to keep it in the back, or if important enough, lock it up until the time is right So it could have EASILY have been some random minimum wage employee grabbing a copy from the back room and selling it to a reporter, or more likely, themselves and THEN to a reporter marked up a few 1000%

The reason they got the Innovation Award is because the core gameplay was still something very new and impressive at the time, and was done by a super small team. The 'game breaking' bugs were fixed pretty quickly. Within the first week. So once the game was actually playing properly, people were able to see the huge potential in the game. It just had nothing to do. It still is a very impressive game engine even 7 years later. No other developers that I'm aware of have been able to recreate a procedural game engine on the same scale as Hello Games.

They kept the day/night cycles. They got rid of the orbiting aspect though. And as cool as it is. If it's confusing players, probably best to not have it. Maybe they could of kept it as an optional feature or something.

this game is wayyyyyyyy much better that by the time that video was posted! They launch a major update every 3 to 5 weeks FOR FREE! The last one was launched about 2 months ago and the one before that, was lauched in april this year, and the one before in december 2022 I guess. Now the game has so much more things that what was firstly promissed and is available in pretty much any platform including mac, windows, linux (I guess), nintendo switch, playstation 4 and 5, xbox, and others. I've ordered it on pre-sale, I watched every Sean's interviews by the time they were posted, I've been following them since before release and I still follow them on twitter to be aware of the next updates by the time they launches them. It's the best game for PSVR2 by far (see for yourself, make a simple youtube search)

I was SO hyped early doors, but the second the Sony deal was announced I knew it was all over. The fact they've gone and mostly fixed it after the fact is proof that the pressure from Sony did what I expected. I guess they needed the money, but there was an inevitability to it, I never pre-ordered and was maximum smug face on release. Shame really. But it's a great comeback story in the end which is always nice - everybody loves a comeback story.

Regarding No Man's Sky, I never got the praise. I played it for 300 hours, after most recent updates as well. What the game has is *content* but it is completely disjointed and doesn't flow together at all. The game has ended up with multiple, overly shallow gameplay loops that don't mix with one-another at all. It is *not* a nitpick that their updates feel more like ticking boxes than properly designed and implemented systems. Now, don't let this detract from the fact that they actually sat down and worked like mad on the game, and followed EXCELLENT practices, that's pretty much unique in the industry and they deserve the praise, awards and chances for that. The game on the other hand... yeah, mid at best.
