I remember playing GTA 2 and it was top-down. Back in those days it was surprising how you can zoom past building and traffic and pedestrians in a car so fast without lag or frame skipping. I had the same experience with San Andreas, played it over and over every system, including mods and online for years and loved every second of it. Went back to it a few years after IV came out, and the driving was way too rough to play for long, especially half the car being wrecked constantly from other traffic tapping the bumper at 2mph.

Yep, Vice City was my first GTA game, and being a child of the 80s and 90s, I definitely enjoyed the nostalgia, the music, the attire, the atomosphere and all that. But the game should remain in my memories, not to be replayed again. At the time it was great fun, but now, the controls just don't hold up to today. Somethings should stay memories of the past, I believe.

I actually hope to see Luis in GTA 6 he my second favorite character in GTA 4 behind Niko,and after seeing Johnny in GTA V. I hope that Luis doesn’t have the same fate happening to him in GTA 6 if he makes a return. He is a good character to me besides Victor Vance he’s the most decent character in GTA series. He doesn’t want to get involved in criminal organizations and he doesn’t want to get back in jail for crimes either. He just wants to make money and live a decent lifestyle but of course life in GTA doesn’t work out that way.

the simple answer is: it does not. But there ARE several ties. For example, epsilonism exists in both universes. Also, in GTA V there is a book called Red Dead by J Marston. But that's just a little hommage.

I think after GTA 6 they will be done with the HD universe and start Phase 1 of a new universe. Think about it. GTA 4 came out in 2008, GTA 6 is coming out in 2025, people who were 18 years old when GTA 4 first came out will be 35 years old when GTA 6 comes out. And if they take another 10 years or so to make GTA 7, those people will be 45 years old. How likely that Rockstar will still try to cater to the 45 year olds and their nostalgia and expectations? I think it's far more likely that 6 will be the final installment of this chapter of GTA games, and 7 will be the brand new start from scratch.

I don't know if they will do new universes after 6 tbh, the changes from 3D to HD were so big they probably felt like they needed to maintain consistency with the new capabilities. Geography of the old games cities is vastly different etc, that's not really a problem anymore.
