No one knows! Kids have throw rocks and what ever at targets throughout history. Adults would take those ideas and toys and make better games out of them. Darts probably evolved out of spear throwing then to bow and arrows then to small sharp sticks.

What is now known as lawn darts is what started darts..horsemen would throw under arm at there enemy..and practice on logs ..this is where darts started and not archery at all..they came after
