I'll explain it as I see it, she acts indignant because she is aware and ashamed of herself and confused, so it's a "self defense mechanism" she's just trying to cope and not to die or keep going any further with Jim. Just like when a person is sad but they don't want to feel sad because they don't know how to handle that, so they just get angry and mad, but deep down they're just sad. Copying mechanisms are real and very interesting to study.
