Exactly my thoughts! While watching this, their civilization reminded me so much of the Roman Empire in terms of innovation, centralization, administration, and the idea of the 'State'. Imperial China also comes to mind. If only they had developed a couple centuries before the arrival of the Europeans, it would have been so it interesting to see how their civilization and state would evolve. But tbf, the Europeans would have arrived regardless and the arrival of smallpox still would have completely ravaged them, no matter what, they would have never been prepared to deal with the epidemic.

@@KingAlton9403 Peru has 6000 years of urban history. Inca were not even the 1st empire just the biggest, arguably the 3rd big empire. The only reason the Spanish conquered them is due to 1 in a million shot in the dark. Even while fighting the Spanish the locals adopted horses, armor and gunpowder in the subsequent wars. There are paintings from the XVIth century with armored Inca nobles riding horses too. In my opinion it would've been something like Japan x10 (due to size) a centralized populous state that adopted tech and trade with the whole world, unlike Japan they couldn't have rejected the world so they just would've expanded throughout the south and east of South America since they were just nomad tribes vs now horse riding, metal armored, massed Inca armies.

@poloclubb WTF are you talking about NA tribes where nomads, didn't even have farming. Much less 6000 years of URBAN civilization history. Inca where just the latest in a long line of civilizations. Aztec where the crazy cannibals who everyone in ancient mexico hates. Apache had a peak population of 60k people, the Inca had an empire of 10m-20m people, with advanced cities, roads, water works like acqueducts, etc. BTW the Spanish conquered the Inca because they allied with the losing side of the civil war and intermarried them, several of the highest noble houses in Europe have Incan blood, since Interracial marriage was legal in the Spanish Empire since 1540. Unlike the US's 1960.

my guy you have done it again! as my grandparents would spend every winter in peru and had done so for decades i grew up with stories of the inca as a kid. The house was filled with ceramics, figures, pottery and textiles (some inca, some chimu, some chancay, nazca and more), along with bows and other objects from the amazon. you make history come alive through your videos and though we sadly will never have had the possibility to experience this amazing culture because of the Spanish, this video really makes me understand why my grandparents fell in love with the history and culture of the area. Can't wait for the next part!!

You can partially experience this in rural areas of Perú, especially near the ancient capital of the Empire, Cuzco. Well, regarding the Spanish, unfortunately due to Europe's naval advances, they had to arrive at some point. Fortunately, it can be said that way, the Spanish arrived and not the French, Dutch or British, because most likely there would not have been a trace of this civilization left. Contrary to what is believed in culturally Protestant countries, the Spanish were less destructive than they believe, Protestant propaganda was very harsh against Spain, for being the most powerful Catholic kingdom in its time. They even believe that the Spanish inquisition was more abusive than the Protestant inquisitions or those of northern/central Europe, which is completely false and ridiculous, but it shows a lot the power of propaganda. Absolute perfection. GREAT call on making a longer video. I really really like it when you take the time to describe the lives and culture of a civilization. Adds more stakes and meaning to the battles. I didn't know anything about the history of South America before watching this, and now i know quite a bit. Great job keeping the narrative focused on the core elements enough so it's very easy to follow, but with such rich detail in them at the same time. Great usage of territory maps at the perfect times for full clarity. Plus of course, only this channel has this amazing style of immersive art. This really made me feel like I was in the mysterious alien world of old South America. Not just because of the landscapes or different way of life, but because even the Incas didn't know how to handle the mysterious parts of the continent, such as the deep Amazon or the surprisingly tough Mapuche people near the Maule River. Makes the continent feel like an onion where there's always more around the corner.

If you look at a topographical map of South America and where the Inca Empire was based in, it was very impressive that they got so large and powerful, yet maintained it quite well. It took an unforeseen threat from the different side of the world to lay them low: Disease from the Old World.

The Inca Empire, which thrived in the 15th and early 16th centuries, was the largest empire in pre-Columbian America. What’s fascinating is that they built a vast network of roads, known as the Inca Road System, stretching over 25,000 miles. This impressive infrastructure connected their empire, from the high Andes to the coast. Despite never developing a system of writing, they used quipus, knotted cords, to keep records. As a Peruvian, I would request that for part 2 and Spanish conquest, you take into consideration all the angles, not only the “official one” that frames Spanish as almighty and barbaric killers. The conquest was mainly thanks to the tribes the Spanish allied with, and in the case of the Incas, Huascar family cheered when Spanish executed Atahualpa. Moreover, Incas survived the whole 300 years of Spanish dominion, they were consider nobility and they had riches and power in Cuzco. It was Simon Bolivar (controverted character) who eliminated the nobility titles that Inca had, and he let the white criollos to seize indigenous lands. You will find there are many interesting facts of the Spanish dominion time that reveals a simbiosis of the Andean people and the Spanish that settled in my country, giving birth to mixed peoples and culture.

This is not true, Spanish burned down all the storages of food and make the inhabitants slaves. The frequent name of locations called "Tambo Quemad" means specifically that.
