I am new to researching using ATV trails in ON. I did not realize the OFATV pass does not cover all trails. From this video, I understand EOTA has another pass. Now, going back to the OFATV website, it looks like there is a third pass for Kawartha / Haliburton. Do I have this right? I'm not afraid of some good roadtrips to some good trails this summer, but buying 3+ passes seems excessive. Oh, and of course, Quebec, that's like a whole other country too. Another pass for that. My head is spinning a bit.

Hi, I am in New Brunswick. I am a director of my local club. Here in NB there is one ATV Federation with around 58 clubs approximately. I agree there are clubs that are more involved with trail maintenance then others. We even groom our club trails in the winter. The Ont Gov't should step in and force a merger. It's crazy that you need two passes. On some of our runs we may go thru 3 or 4 clubs territories. By the way love your videos.

I just spoke with Ontario provincial police about the enforcement of ATV trail passes. Their response was the only trail pass required is for snowmobiles which is law. The only requirement you have for an ATV on crownland even on trails is drivers license ownership and insurance. I dont know why ATV clubs think they have jurisdiction on crown land!

That’s the big argument a lot of people have against the OFATV, because they like to enforce passes on private land, the eota is strictly rail trails, which are owned by the different municipalities

I've got an argo (not allowed of ofatv trails) so I ride densely wooded crown land, home to many km's of ofatv trails lol. I wont mention his name since vp's change over time but I have a printed email from the horses mouth saying there isn't a thing they can do to stop me from riding their crown land trails and that it would only be considered trespassing if I ventured onto private property (obviously). So to your point, they are aware. It's just hush hush.

So why do snowmobiles need a pass if they also ride crown land. ? Wonder why the cop said it’s law for snowmobiles?

It's crazy you would need 2 passes to ride! As long as you have 1 pass you should be allowed to ride anywhere. Each club should take care of their part instead of being greedy!

I feel the pain man. I’m also in Ontario. I have an Argo 8x8. I would actually like to buy a pass but they won’t sell me one because my 60” wide 1000lb plastic bathtub is too wide and heavy. That is seriously the response I got back from ofatv when I tried to give them my money. Problem with Ontario (one of them) is most of the crown land is densely wooded and the atv trails are club maintained. Just funny how they won’t take my money but I’m essentially forced to ride their trails on crown land anyway. Things need to change. Amalgamate the trail networks and allow all machines including dirt bikes. It’s silly that they are not allowed. I get that they may not want to, but the choose should be theirs. Motorcycles ride shoulder to shoulder on the road with 18 wheelers. Why can’t a dirt bike ride with a Honda Talon? Politics don’t belong in the bush. $150, give me a damn sticker and let me ride from Ottawa to Thunder Bay if I’m so inclined.

Also I agree with your statement with how we ( ATV/SXS/UTV and snowmobiles ) have to pay to use the trails and everyone one else gets to use it for free. ( That is a clear discrimination ) The sad part is the people that use it for FREE do not want the people that actually pay to use ( AKA maintain ) it to be there. I have crossed Newfoundland many times via SxS and let me tell you. They have come to learn that this is a big money business for tourism. Last year it was their biggest tourist money maker. ( Over 60,000 bikes crossed ) guess what.. no pass required.. They are more than happy to have you come visit and spend your money there.

I couldn't agree more!!! I'm from Frankford Ontario so Quinte West and I can't use the old train rail bed until I get to Glen Ross which is 8km away. But yet I can drive on the paved roads including the main downtown intersection. The trail from Glen Ross south to hwy 401 is for non motorized use only. I guess that means I can ride on the sidewalks? ONE PASS FOR THE ENTIRE PROVINCES TRAILS...ALL OF THEM.

Ya one pass is needed . I've cut grass , removed blow down brush , groomed trails , repaired signage, and been a trail warden for Dufferin grey atv club and bought my own permit . I've welded , and done lots of labour work for South Bruce Peninsula atv club and bought my own permit Two different permits for my area is bull shit , especially after working so hard and putting in so much time on my days off . I enjoy riding and helping out but help us out by going one permit Great video bud thanks for your time, I will subscribe, but I do not condone in trespassing

I agree pay them nothing, crown land is already paid for by our taxes. These clubs cant do anything and I just drive around them to the point where they threatened to slash my tires... real professionals eh! I told them to try and see who's faster your knife or my shotgun. And regarding trespass fines every OPP that I have ever ran into told me I am NOT required to buy a pass and fines are only issued when there is a complaint that I am on private land and refuse to leave or have been previously been warned, even then fines are extremally rare. The OPP have warned these clubs that they are not allowed to hold you or stop you and if they do they can be charged with forceable confinement, so remember your rights when riding and don't be a Karen.

I live in Ontario as well. And ride the lake of bays and Halliburton trails. I also ride in ompa. And I need two passes. So yes I agree with you. They need to get one pass for all trails. But this is what I don’t understand. 80 to 90 percent of the trails are on crown land. Anyone Is allowed to use crown land. So why do we need a trail pass then. And why are we getting trespassing charges for being on crown land. I can see if we are on private land. But not crown land.

As big as Texas is and millions of public acres of land we only have a couple of off road trails . These trails are 50” wide or less “4 wheelers” only . And depend on dry weather conditions. Everyone goes to private land parks with fees for riders and machine , usually around $25 a day .

@@CommanderOutdoors Its not hard to get involved and once involved you can always make changes. Your mind set of I'm not paying for something because they won't listen to me is unbelievable .... BUT SAYING YOUR STILL GOING TO US IT SEROUSLY.. this is what's wrong with society today. To top it off your suggest other people should also break the law and use something they have not paid for. I'd suggest you talk to a lawyer. After being given a ticket you are not allowed go back on the property even after it has been paid or you could face up to a $2,000 fine and could face criminal charges and it would go on your record. If you get the trespassing ticket after 9 pm or before 6 am and or damage is done you could be charged with a criminal offence your very first ticket. Instructing someone to break the law is a criminal offence and opens yourself up to all kinds of other legal issues and major liability. What gets me, if the trails were taken away you'd be the first to say that's not fair. Having a pulse does not entitle you to do what ever you want when ever you want. if you don't like how something is being done change it and get involved or simply do not use the trails. NO PAY NO PLAY THAT SIMPLE

There is so much bullshit to unpack in this comment I don’t know where to begin lol…. Allow me to rebut you in point form: 1- when I use the railbed (very rarely) it’s a brutal experience and since they don’t fix the trails, no I will not pay 2-what’s wrong with society is too many snowflakes afraid to speak their mind and break the rules 3-if I am not allowed back on the land then maybe the enforcing officer should mention that instead of them telling me “pay the fine, buy a day pass and you’re ok” 4-never once did I TELL a anyone to do anything. I just offered my opinion, which last I checked is still legal (for now) unless dickheads like you get their way 5-seeing as I don’t really ride the railbed, they can shut it down tomorrow for all I care. The EOTA does not govern crown land and has no authority to do so. They govern the abandoned railbeds that are for the most part in Hastings county. 6- I have tried to talk to the club leadership, ask the hard questions and all I’ve gotten are non answers, beating around the bush and a bunch of political nonsense. You wanna say “no pay no play” Then I have every right to say “no pay until one pass for all of Ontario” I ride far and wide across this province and I refuse to pay for two passes

I pay to ride the ganaraska trails all summer long, and all they are doing is closing trails that haven’t been maintained properly, and now they’re becoming unsafe. They take out money, but give nothing in return. It’s the same for the snowmobiles in the winter. Buy an OFSC pass, and you’re lucky if the trails get groomed, let alone maintained.

I never liked the idea of having to buy passes to go trail riding. People go out there to enjoy nature cuz nature doesn't charge anything for that. But if you want to enjoy your atv or whatever while your out there then someone needs to make money off you. I've always thought it was bullshit. I think if enough people respected riding and took their own time while they were out to do a little maintain ce here and there it would be sufficient enough for everyone along with the perk of riding for free. The trails arnt being maintained anyway so what's the point. I'd take a chainsaw out once or twice a month and clear off a few sections of trail in my area if I knew it was helping other riders.
@CommanderOutdoors

But what I don't understand is.. we pay fees for trail access and maitence, bit its "Volenteers" that fix the trails? Do what exactly does these fees go to? I'm from nova scotia and we just ride, respect private land and fix spots that needed it. You would be amazed how free trails work, everyone e spots makes the trail passable its too rough. You enforce people to pay, they become feeling owed and drive over bad areas with the mentality that " I pay, someone else should do this". Small fees to access private land for sure.
