The Epic Solar Eclipse In Totality On A Backcountry Spring Canoe Trip

This is the first canoe trip of the season for me in 2024. The ice had just come off and all I had heard about on the news was the total solar eclipse that would cover parts of Ontario in darkness. At the last minute, after seeing that Frontenac provincial park laid within the path of totality, I decided that my first real canoe trip of the season would be me chasing the total eclipse of 2024. What a trip it would be!
At the time, I had no idea what I was doing, or how I would capture the eclipse, but I could not be happier or more excited to have been witness to such an incredible experience! During the eclipse, the clouds parted just enough to get some shots that I think really show the awesome beauty of this extraordinary event.
I sincerely loved this trip and could not be more happy to share this experience with you. What an incredible start to the paddling season! This is going to be an awesome year on the water.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all of the nice comments and support we’ve received recently. It’s all very much appreciated. Just a side note on the drone footage - it was all taken outside of the parks boundaries either from crown or private land. Hope everyone enjoys the video and is heading back into the water. Should be an unbelievable year for paddling. We’ve got some big plans this season and will more than likely have very limited posts for the foreseeable future. Paddle all summer and edit all winter 🎥 🛶 Safe travels everyone.

I have to say you are the BEST NARRATOR I have heard on utube. Your style is relaxing with expression not over done, no uptalk or vocal fry which seems to be the new trend amongst young folk these days and is very annoying to listen to I might add. Also you dont yap on. Its just perfect. Your appreciation and capture of nature is splendid! Thankyou so much for all your effort, it is indeed appreciated. Warm regards from Aus 💚 Ps. if you are looking for any music for your vids checkout Judah Earl and Tony Anderson areexcellent creators. 👍

What a special way to kickstart a new paddle season Keenan, with not just the eclipse, but the variety of birds and the beaver in a tree! It looked like such a great group of lakes with pretty easy portages. Give a few big 'good girl' pats to Betty Lou for me - what a well behaved little companion both on land and in the canoe. Looking forward to the rest of this years canoeing trips as well as catching up on past ones.

Wow!! No words for the magnificent presentation. Awesome wildlife. I also love macro insects flowers and other odd subjects. Great spider. I am the opposite of most folks as I love spiders and opt to save rather than destruct. Always amazed by your awesome companion, Betty Lou. Most spectacular eclipse footage I’ve seen

Unbelievable, your video is a true Masterpiece. Really great shots of the total eclipse. I watched the eclipse from a top of cliff on a perfect blue sky day with my 7 years old son and it was truly unreal. Have good paddling season!

Actually made me well up. What an incredible document of a powerful experience. Briefly toyed with getting the canoe out somewhere for that day, but wasn't able to pull it off. Still got to witness the eclipse under perfect skies in Port Stanley with my favourite people, and it was deeply moving. Your film completely incapsulates what is so inadequately put into words when trying to relate what it felt like to others. Amazing work Keenan, truly spectacular. Can not wait for everything and anything you get to accomplish this season.

So impressive ! Beautiful documentary. Thanks for capturing this special moment for so many people. The cloudiness does make me remember "my" eclipse in 1999 in Europe (August 11). Yes I do understand your comment on feeling small. You will remember this event forever, I'm sure. Outstanding camera work. Well done ! Hello from The Netherlands, Marco.

Thank you Keenan I liked seeing the porcupine in the tree, the eagle I believe is a imature eagle, I have seen a Golden eagle once going from yellowknife to rae edzo it was huge. I appreciate you sensitivity to nature and all the animals on your journey. Seeing the solar eclipse and the diamonds gives me hope for the protection of nature and its inhabitants. Have fun with your new camera. Take good care Susan
