When someone who is obviously on the spook side of things "The Agency" it only means one place. Cleaners like him are few and far between they are extremely hard to find due to the need for very specific character traits and ability to do the most horrific things quickly, efficiently and cleanly leaving no trace they even existed. Technically they do not exist once recruited and are gone forever after. They don't retire normally they are too dangerous to allow them to walk away.

Fun Fact: Equalizer 2 is the first time Denzel has ever done a sequel to any of his movies. Also, Equalizer 3 is on its way! Another great one to watch would be Man on Fire with Denzel.

The problem is the character is unrealistic. He enters a mob kingpins mansion in Russia without a scratch. That last scene really ruined the film for me.

To us older generation we remember when it was a white guy no disrespect intended playing the lead I think it went for 4 seasons 88 episodes The Equalizer is an American spy thriller television series, originally airing on CBS from September 18, 1985, to August 24, 1989, and co-created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. It starred Edward Woodward as a retired intelligence agent with a mysterious past, who uses the skills from his former career to exact justice on behalf of innocent people who find themselves in dangerous circumstances, while sometimes also dealing with people from his past in covert operations who want to pull him back in or settle old scores. The concept has been rebooted twice with a pair of movies (in 2014 and 2018) starring Denzel Washington slated to be followed up by a third film, and a re-imagined 2021 TV series starring Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall. When ppl refer to "The Agency" they are referencing the C.I.A "Central Intelligence Agency"

Typically, when someone refers to "The Agency" they are speaking of the Central Intelligence Agecy. Robert McCall was an assassin for the CIA. Almost certainly their best. This movie is based on the 1980s TV show with Edward Woodward, "The Equalizer". It was an excellent series. McCall was unique at the time for his use of intensely psychological attacks against his enemies. He was good with a gun, but it was never his first option. He would mind screw his opponents first, then wrap them up in a bow for the police. In the show, McCall had an ad in the classified section, "Odds against you? No one can help? Call the Equalizer". Each episode was him helping someone that could not ho to the police for some reason, and some episodes were about his past as a spy. The TV show McCall was formidable, but not a killing machine like Denzel or Keanu's John Wick.

"The Agency" is typically a nickname for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. So, that scene was implying both Denzel's character and his friend were ex-CIA agents. That also explains why Denzel's character wasn't worried about leaving his fingerprints because the CIA would make sure his fingerprints weren't in any system.

As someone that watched the original TV show many years ago I appreciate the theme. I watched this movie many times. I appreciate MRLBOYD comments since he is on the spectrum because he sees things that nobody else will think about. And Denzel plays somebody on the spectrum that allows him to be so lethal.

I, too would suggest The Book of Eli, a great Denzel action movie set in a post-apocalyptic world with the infamous Gary Oldman playing the villain. A very cool mystery story with religious/mystical undertones throughout, from what I garner of what really turns your crank in movies, you may love this one more then the The Equalizer.

Book of Eli is wonderful. So is "Man on Fire" and "Training Day". But my all time favorite Denzel movie is his first.."Glory" is magnificent. I dearly hope Mr. L Boyd watches Glory, he would love it.

"Unless he sees someone that needs help, and he wants to be the one positive thing in her life." That's literally the entire character. He sees people struggling, and helps them. Then when people are powerless to stop others from abusing them and robbing them, he becomes "The Equalizer".

This movie is actually based on a TV series from the 80's. The difference is that in that series, he was an ex-CIA spy in the classical sense, not a fighter, and he became a private investigator.

Was he ex-CIA? Or ex-MI5? I haven't watched the show since the 80s, but I do remember that they chose to hire British actor Edward Woodward to play McCall, and had him keep his accent.

There's a part 2 of the Equalizer, with a 3rd installment in development. Definitely worth the watch! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend Training Day with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke... remarkable film.

He was a Defense Intelligence Agency field operative under its defense clandestine service arm. DIA for a lack of a better word is a poor man’s version of the CIA. DIA provides intelligence to the military and supports the war fighter while the CIA provides intelligence to the President and his administration. DIA people have learned to improvise and use what they’ve got to complete their mission sets and not rely on top tier gear, etc. Within the community, DIA’s moniker is the Discount Intelligence Agency.

The Agency is what military and federal agency people call the CIA. Interesting too that he’s speaking with a once top dog in the CIA judging by the estate she lives at because The CIA pulls their GRS (Global Response Team), (13 hours movie is based on these guys and Hillary’s F up , coverup) HVT Protection , VIP & US Embassy security guys from tier 1 SOCOM Operators , DELTA/CAG, SEAL team 6/DEVGRU , MARSOC etc after they finish their tours in Special Operations as the TOP war fighter/operators on earth , their next common route is going to the CIA in these roles , where they make a LoT more money using their skills , so he’s clearly ex-SOF , teir 1. ALL the tier 1 Veterans that have KZbin channels like DJ Shipley, Cole , Slade (SEAL team 6 guys) run GBRS Group (mercenary contractors & SOF kit developers), Savage actual channel, Black Rifle Coffees 5 owners all SOF guys , ALL of these worked for the CIA after Special Operations so yeah “Robert” is a tier 1 deleter.

If you're into this sort of movies I highly recommend The Crow, if only for the diner scenes, A History of Violence and Nobody. All good enough to watch several times. I got myself tested and they say I'm not in the spectrum autism wise, but what few realise is I'm in every spectrum, basically.
