The character of McCall is based on a TV character in a 1980s action show also called The Equalizer, starring Edward Woodward ( The 1973 Wicker Man and Tom Weaver from Hot Fuzz) It could also be argued that the 1980 character of McCall was reminiscent of Woodward's legendary TV spy Callan from the 1960s and 1970s

This movie and its sequel often get overshadowed by other action franchises like John Wick and Jason Bourne, but this is actually my personal favorite - it's so cool and grounded, and Denzel is just so freaking badass. I could watch him deal out justice all day long. Keanu Reeves played a serial killer in the movie The Watcher. (He later said that he didn't want to do the movie, and only did so because he was forced to by a studio contract.) Regarding Bill Pullman, if you want to see how much range he has, check out a creepy, messed-up little horror flick called Surveillance. Fair warning, it was made by Jennifer Lynch, daughter of David Lynch, and it's not a movie for the faint of heart.

17:16 when you guys were talking about the gestures to her face and now they aren't violent, but threatening. I found the best comparison in my head was being threatened with an elastic band. It's almost like his tiny pushes and gestures are more about constantly putting her right on the edge, that edge being actually beating her. Like the elastic band, the threat of being hit with it is sometimes worse than actually being hit, from a physiological point of view at least.

Despite his spot on Eastern European accent, Marton Csokas (the actor playing Teddy the Regulator) is actually from New Zealand and normally speaks with that accent. He's done a lot of things. I know you've seen him in Lord of the Rings, but I can't think of what else you saw him in. Honey is one of the best natural antibiotics ever. Bacteria just doesn't grow in it. Smearing boiled honey on cuts and scrapes to keep them from getting infected is a technique that is thousands of years old. And it works. Bill Pullman was the villain of "Ruthless People" though that was a comedy and he wasn't a very good villain. I mean, Pullman was great, but his character was an incompetent villain.

Critics and the viewers often don't like the same things though, so that's actually quite common.

The critics and audiences are correct. It's cheap, predictable revenge porn. Part 2 was just as terrible.... So, sorry... He HAS been in bad movies. In fact, he hasn't been in a good one since Flight... that was 11 years ago.

Keanu Reeves played a serial killer in a movie called The Watcher in 2000. Alongside James Spader and Marisa Tomei. Not a great movie, but not bad.

If you want to see Bill Pullman as a “villain”, watch Torchwood. He plays a criminal in the last season. Plus it’s a good show. It’s a spin-off of Doctor Who.

briefly: yes, American money is that boring. It's both an issue for counterfeiting security (see: "raised notes") and accessibility (since you can't easily differentiate denominations by touch) but we refuse to do anything about it because sucking at currency is an American tradition.

This started as an 80's TV series, McCall was a retired CIA agent, who decides to spend his later yrs helping civilians (a bit like the A Team) who need help. Was also made as a film that strung multiple episodes together. This was the first time the character was seen in a full film, but it doesn't give as much of a backstory to him for the films. There's also a current TV series with Queen Latifa as Robin McCall (a female version of the character).

The movie poster you mentioned of Denzel with a toothpick hanging out of his mouth is titled "Training Day", released in 2001. Denzel won the Oscar for best actor, and his co-star, Ethan Hawke, won the Oscar for best supporting actor. Plus the movie itself won various other awards that year. That movie is presently streaming on Netflix.
