I love this original concept where the good guy (Denzel), was never faced with the disadvantage. He always held the advantage and maintained a full step ahead. Often you see the protagonist facing something uncertain, but never in this movie.

Look, in reality, most of the time, those that have the upper hand wins, from war to economy, murder cases, office rivalries and so on. Equaliser only brought that level of expertise that our tax money are spent on to get information from our enemies and survive to bring the information back, to a local place where he beats a bunch of lower level criminals, mercs or thugs. That’s like sending a F22 to blow up a tank, one pilot vs 4 drivers.

1:22 Earlier in the movie, you could see actual powerline workers sitting where the henchman sat. It was given no more than a few seconds of screentime, but it still conveys perfectly how Robert knows these things. It also doubles as a little reward for the viewer, for having the detail-oriented attention that Robert has. I love this movie so much.

It took him 5.02 seconds to kill the guy in the diner, and turn the lights off. This scene makes it clear to the russian badass, what he's up against. The reason why this is a good movie, is not only Denzel, but most of all the good story, the fine script, and the fighting scenes. Short and efficient. What I also can appreciate is the fact that Denzel looks normal..average guy..one you could meet everyday, and you wouldn't suspect anything.

A small detail I like in this scene compared to other movies; Often when a henchmen is knocked unconscious and the target escapes, Boss-man is quick to dispose of his useless worker for being a coward or letting the guy go without a fight. However, in this case, a quick inspection of the man's head shows he had genuinely been hit with a tool and was split through the skin and bleeding well, no need to dispose of honest resources.

The expression on Denzel's face controlling his rage when offering 9800 dollars for the freedom of Teri and Slavi dismissing it with utmost disregard for a human being - I do not think any other actor could bring it. It is a wishful thinking role of any Dad.

Frying pan in "Grosse Point Blank" is a contender. Martin Blank explains that he still believes that Newberry and him has a shot at being a couple while "working" using a frying pan to kill a fellow hitman. Maybe it's the other way around. He is killing a fellow hitman with a frying pan while explaining why his ex gf should give him another shot.
