But just remember that the man who allows himself to lose his self-control and, as you put it .. "was compelled" to react like an automaton, like a mere knee jerk nerve fiber reacting without any choice at all in the matter, under a faux duress that he himself voluntarily subjected himself to, and so very easily after "enduring" a string of mere words, child's playground insults at best, is, frankly, a complete fool who sets himself up moment by moment for a lifetime of letdown and self-loathing. But don't get me wrong. Marton Csokas does a bang up job inhabiting the role and deserves major kudos for bringing to the screen a very believable case of a person engaging in such tragic self-sabotage. You can almost see him cowering behind a shaky veneer of cool self-assured machismo that requires great effort to display in order to hide the essential human weakness.

I agree mate. Smart people DO in fact survive long in a criminal career because A) They understand to NEVER underestimate ANYONE no matter how you may perceive outward appearances and B) Its better to make alliances than enemies. In this case Little John may have been smart but he let his personal biases and ego get the better of him, which was incredibly stupid because the Russians reputation is well known within the criminal arena. They are not people to be trifled with by other organizations or in some cases even law enforcement. John was simply core stupid in a moment that he could not afford to be.

You could also see a hint of suspicion though when he was inspecting the damage. It look too controlled (fires from accidents are usually very sporadic and usually occur in either electrical outlets, or from cooking. On average at least.). He probably suspected arson as he looked more and more. But him being who he is, he'd rather help now and immediately after and investigate later when he has time. Builds his character very well.

I love what they did with Pedro. They are two different types of characters, Pedro's character is about the banality of evil. Killing a friend of decades, a woman who trusted him, while pretending he's not evil. His internal monologue would have been, Jesus, honey, why did you fight it so hard? I sent two men you didn't know, so your last moments wouldn't have to be betrayal. And yet here we are, because you just couldn't give in, for once. He'd turn it around in his head, make it her fault. These are the men that have faux guilt and say, why'd you make me hit you? I write characters like Pedro's often, and they chill me more. In my life, I always see the ones like Teddy coming clearly, which makes all the difference. The ones who have convinced themselves they are a good man, who just 'has to' do evil things, with such banality...those are the ones that get me. I'd say dealing with him was much more difficult for Robert too.

Both of these movies were great, but, I think the first movie was just a little better than the sequel. I hope they make a third film soon. I mean, Matt Damon had Jason Bourne, Tom Cruise had Jack Reacher, and Liam Neeson had Bryan Mills, let Denzel have Robert McCall once more!

First one had the better villain and the shootout in the hardware store is more climactic. The villains in the sequel were way too easy for him to pick off especially given they used to all be in the same team. Should have equivalent training and tactics as McCall.
@sanctuaryism
@sanctuaryism 2 жыл бұрын
@@bigheadache how is that... he might have had training from other sources also over these guys. he could have kept studying even after retiring... we don't know for sure that he taught them everything he knew... but yeah they were still highly trained operatives all the same yes of course. I loved the showdown finale in EQ 2 but I can still see how one could argue like yourself as to how they might have been a little too easily disposed of... I myself put it down to 2 things. mccall was very determined to take them out from a vengeance stand point and had really nothing to lose other than maybe the kid in the movie and at that these guys were intimidated and off- put from the word go... just the pictures scattered around all over the place of susan threw them off enough.
@bigheadache
@bigheadache 2 жыл бұрын
@@sanctuaryism fair call. In the second one he does tell Dave’s wife that he was the team leader so yeah you could be right he could be the main operator and the other blokes were just operational support and QRF. The other aspect is McCall had home ground advantage which I haven’t given credit to

This is a great scene!!... It truly shows the similarities yet extreme differences between the rolls of Denzel in this movie.... and his counterpart who clearly shows he is calculating and reserved and very professional yet with very evil intentions as far as his capabilities!!!... yet seems to draw a line right there!!_____ when it seems like out of nowhere the true inner demons of this man just lash out with such evil intent!!! Not having control and unleashing himself upon an unexpecting person beating him almost to death!!!... having to other people shot and killed right there in the room as just part of collateral damage... All that coming about in about 18 seconds!!... yet on the flip side Denzel's character is of someone truly in full control knowing his capabilities and professionalism!!!... and actually sets his watch as his actions are already precalculated and shocked the hell out of these five guys who think they've got him right where they want him!!!. .18 seconds later they're all laying dead or dying on the ground!!!.... that's a very powerful connection that most people don't see of the two main characters in this movie!!!
