Robert gives people what he feels they need. If they need encouragement, he gives them encouragement. If they need a coach, he gives them a coach. And if they need violence to be visited upon themselves... he helps them with that. That is the EQUALIZER. Some people just need a little help.

Thanks Miss Jen! This movie is actually based on a great 80's TV crime thriller of the same name. Edward Woodward played a middle-aged former British agent who helped people who were being threatened. The show was more cerebral than these films, but had terrific camera work and score. I loved it.

I really liked the original TV show. What a wholesome concept of a guardian angel coming out of the shadows to help people in trouble, speaking the King's English, no less. Haven't seen this movie. Is it any good?

Before hiring Woodward, they actually asked Denzel if he wanted the role. He said he wanted to do it but he was on a big show called St Elsewhere, so he couldn't do it. Small world!

Jen is one of the best editors. She doesn't spend five boring minutes of a segment trying to guess what's going to happen next. Just inserts a comment here and there. Very concise. She literally puts 60 minutes worth of content into 40 minutes. Brevity is the soul of wit!

Robert McCall in this version is a former MARSOC (Marine Special Operations) turned ISA (that is like CIA Special Operators) who faked his death to leave that life behind to honor his wife's dying wish. When your body is stressed, it goes into flight or fight mode. high levels of cortisol and adrenaline are released into the blood stream causing you to perceive time as slowing down. This is really your brain processing sensory input faster. With the right training and experience you cannot just react faster but think in a controlled manner. This is what the camera is trying to explain quickly. Honey has antimicrobial healing properties and has been used for thousands of years for healing.

I jumped on this bandwagon because a lot of people told me how good it was and the third movie being released. Edward Woodward in the original TV series defined the character for me in the 80s which made me resistant to seeing it. But it’s Denzel wrecking 💩and equalizing so it’s cool 😂😂

I think this is the first movie I saw use a nail gun since Lethal Weapon. Power tools are no joke! Surprised they don't get used in movies more often, but that is probably due to how gross it is when they are used.

The Equalizer movies are sort of a cross between the Jason Bourne and the John Wick series, but with just enough freshness to be their own thing. The other two are also awesome, hope you watch them soon. The second one is my personal favorite.

The final "weapon" is a .22 caliber anchor setter. It's basically a gun that uses blanks to fire a specialized nail to secure things like sole plates to concrete foundations.

This trilogy of movies was among my mom’s favorites. Our last movie date before she passed two weeks ago was watching “Equalizer 3.” Good choice Jen. You can never go wrong with Denzel. If you dare and if you can find it, I recommend the ‘80’s medical show “St. Elsewhere.” Denzel was in that along with a huge number of classic character actors. You’d like it; it’s very quirky.

IMHO, this movie and "Man on Fire" are Denzel's best. Not his top awards or the critics' choice, of course, but I'm just a regular person. As for the actress who played Alina, I'd say she's best known for her role in "Kick-Ass," which is well worth watching. At the end of the reaction, you're looking at the diner and thinking of a painting. It's probably "Nighthawks," by Hopper.

By the way, the Television Series this was based on with the same name lasted three seasons from 1958 to 1989. There is a new one as well, but the original was where it was at. Of course, my favorite Television series (and reruns) of that period in my life. The main character was Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a retired British intelligence agent with a mysterious past, who uses the skills from his former career to exact justice on behalf of innocent people who find themselves in dangerous circumstances. He rarely used a firearm with gun powder cartridges.

The thing with the original series that wasn't in this movie or in the new Queen Latifah series is that Robert worked alone, but he called in favors of people he'd previously helped, and those people played subtle but significant roles in supporting the helping of the next person. It was never risky for the helper, but it was something that they could easily do, like get The Equalizer into a back door, or feed the latest victim after their rescue, which made for a real pay-it-forward kind of feel, and the people that helped out got a real sense of finality and closure by being involved in a significant way with someone whom they could relate to. It made every episode and the people involved very relatable.

I was hooked on the TV show when I was in highschool in the 80s. The Equalizer trilogy is AWESOME. Wait until you see the 3rd movie. McCall is a former Marine gunnery sergeant and DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) assassin/hitman. Not CIA. Highly trained in tactical combat martial arts, weapons, pain tolerance, infiltration, etc. When people are meant to disappear or die in a way that the government cannot be linked to, he's who they send. The TV series was before your time. It ran for 88 episodes, 1985 - 1989, I watched it. religiously. Robert McCall was played by Edward Woodward, 55 white and born in London. A lot of the time, he wore suits, a long cashmere coat, and black leather gloves. He drove a 1984 Jaguar XJ6 Series III. At the time, he took bad assery to a new level.

Denzel is great in everything. His Oscar performance was in Training Day - 2001, same director as this. My favourite performance is in Cry Freedom which is not well known as it was before he was a big star in 87. He played Stephen Biko, an important figure in the eventual removal of Apartheid in South Africa. Probably not a channel pick as it is not well known but worth checking out as the soundtrack is awesome and includes Peter Gabriel’s song about Biko. Classic TV series becoming films or film franchises and actually being successful is a rarity. One is Mission:Impossible and the other is The Equalizer. One individual to even up the odds for the innocent. Bringing the pain to the bad guys that deserve it. I loved the classic tv series (1985-1989) since childhood with the late Golden Globe winner, Edward Woodward. It was revamped into a new original series with Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall/co-producer (since 2021, 3 seasons). To have this great actor/filmmaker collaboration make something like this is very rare. Denzel as McCall/co-producer and Antoine Fuqua directing didn't try to copy the show, beat for beat (except for the last shot). I saw it in the IMAX format and it became Denzel's highest grossing film ever until it's sequel outgrossed it, 4 years later.

The equipment he used to kill Teddy, a lot of reactors mistake it for a regular nail gun, but it is a concrete anchor nail gun. I commercial construction they pour the concrete floor, and to hang pipelines, sprinkler systems or air ducts they use that tool to anchor and suspend each of the systems if they can't anchor to a steel I-beam. And my head canon is that Chloe Grace's character had a hunch that Denzel's character "changed her world" so she wouldn't be forced into that life anymore.

Robert used the honey on his wound as it has antiseptic properties plus, to seal the wound and bond the bandage in place (so it wouldn't rub on the wound). Natural Honey is untreated so can contain bacteria so he flash boiled it, bringing it to the boil and removing it from the heat immediately to kill any bugs, if he let it boil any longer it'd destroy the antiseptic properties and also crystallise it making it useless. If you liked this watch Equalizer 2, 3 plus "Man on Fire" (Denzel again), "Nobody" starring Bob Odenkirk and "The Accountant" with Ben Afleck. Along with John Wick these are some of the Best "silent hero with a dark past" movies 🎥 N years. The Accountant is apparently getting a sequel too as it slipped under most people's radar, after all... who expects "glood n buts" in a movie titled the accountant?

Denzel literally never gives a less than great performance, so you could check out anything in his filmography and probably enjoy yourself. Since you love heists I'll strongly recommend "Inside Man" which is a great movie about a criminal mastermind robbing a bank. But as a change of pace I'd also strongly recommend "Much Ado About Nothing," a beautiful, sexy Shakespeare romantic comedy where he gets to be charming and handsome playing a Prince - and Keanu Reeves is the villain!

@@mr.a8315 I think it's a decent film, but lacks the artistry of some of Tony's other work for me. Great performances all around though. Best is very subjective, but my favorite Tony Scott is The Hunger. It's gorgeous and moody, and so much slower paced than his other work.

You should watch "The Book of Eli" if you haven't seen it yet. That's a Denzel movie. Another movie with him in it and Keanu Reeves and would be unusual for a reactor to watch is "Much Ado About Nothing". One of my favorites, an early work of Kenneth Branagh.

Mr Robert McCall. As everyone else has remarked played by Edward Woodwood, who originally played an MI5 agent named Callan, during the 1960s. Callan was also a minimalist and had set ways and routines much the same as this McCall character.

The interesting thing about this movie version of the Edward Woodward 80's TV show Equalizer, is that it's actually more like the classic 60's British TV show " Callan " that Edward Woodward starred in previously. Callan was a professional assassin, working for the British government, who would eliminate threats to Queen and Country.

Intriguing movie. Found the right word for your reactions. They are guided (very much swayed by) musical / sonic hypersensitivity. This is what I would call your subliminal "superpower". It is what skews your viewing reactions in such an interesting way and one that does quite interesting "service" to the films you watch. A bit of an "Equalizer" yourself.

Cannot wait for your reviews for the remaining Equalizer movies. Yes Denzel has won Oscars. He is the 3rd black man to win an Oscar. His first was Glory as a supporting actor and his 2nd was Training day as Leading actor. He is one of the best actors of a generation.
