You are one of the few ELT teachers in the world with the best equipments possible especially the webcam (Sony ZV1)! Rode mic, logi keyboard and the 4K monitor are also great (though I would go for 27 inch screen). If I were you, I would add a flexible gas monitor arm so I can change angles or tilt the screen for standing position teaching (it’s hard to sit and teach for many hours). You already have a good natural light, but purchasing a studio light like Godox SL60W with a soft box and tripod would make it excellent! Good job 👍🏽 We need more of these videos in the tight-fisted and technophobic community of ELT to show professionalism in language teaching. Greetings from Iran 🇮🇷

Setup looks great, Martin. The quality from the microphone and the camera are excellent. The window light gives a good even spread of light across your face and there's good separation from the background. I use wireless Bluetooth headphones (Logitech H800) because I'm too noisy for the other people in my house to have just an external microphone. The external monitor is a must. I couldn't work properly without it.

You could get a new desktop or get a new monitor to connect with your laptop as well as external keyboard and mouse. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. The drawback about laptops as you mentioned is draining your eyes and neck. Good luck.

Science/math teaching requires writing formulas / drawing diagrams. What additional hardware will be needed in addition to the main laptop/desktop ? For example an Ipad or tablet with a pen/stylus? Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Don’t suppose you’ve done a video for people who have recently gained the Celta, got a job lined up for September but feel like they need to get ready before starting their first teaching post and don’t know where to turn?

That's a great question and I should have really done a video already (especially as we are in the middle of a global pandemic). In terms of getting ready for your first teaching post, I would recommend gaining online teaching experience this summer with some schools either in your own country or abroad. Things are unlikely to go back to normal until 2023 so I think getting online teaching experience will definitely help. Have a look at EF or on TEFL.com for online job opportunities. Other things to consider: investing in an online work setup, attending webinars about teaching or connecting via Twitter with other EFL teachers to see what they recommend. I hope this helps and I will definitely consider making a video soon about preparing to teach this summer. Thanks for the encouragement. 😊
