I’m a truck Driver in Canada. I was hauling into Brucejack Mine in northern B.C. and they had Buba there assembling towers. On my way out I stopped it was parked. I asked if I could walk around it and get some pictures. With a big smile the Pilot says you can get in and take some pics. Just don’t step on anything. Yes I took lots of pics. Crazy cool machine close up. And can carry my HWY tractor away

Actually they are E and F models. Erickson owns the design now and have completely rebuilt them and have even built brand new airframes that have been sold around the world.

A c130 with the MAffs II system can drop 3000 gals. This does 2,650-gallons. C130 has to land to refill the water tanks and this just flys over a water source and drops a big straw. Amazing, Replace the whole fleet with these.

The Chilean Armed Forces released an evaluation of the different aircraft used to combat fires during 2017 fire season and the Erickson Aircrane was the only one to have a 100% total accuracy in dropping water where planed. I personally believe that any major country with a fair amount of forest land should have at least a couple hundreds of these amazing helicopters, but I guess war is more important.

The C130 Maffs (or DC10/Avro/B737) has a different job in the firefighting arsenal to the EricksonS64. The C130 lays down long paths of PhosChek to create RETARDANT fire breaks to inhibit an active fire front. The Erickson is fabulous for accurate spot targeting with WATER at the active fire location. (If the Erickson had to fly back to base each time for retardant it would just be uneconomic) You always need an arsenal of different type airborne equipment for effective suppressing of large fires not a single type helicopter - all are important.
