As a new Christian, I thought everyone was dispensationalist. I didn’t know there were any other thoughts on the matter. I had never read scripture before and was influenced by family and friends who were dispensationalists. It came as a shock when I first heard a view against it. All my studies and searching led me to Orthodoxy, and I am now a catechumen.

I was a Dispensationalist and went Moody Bible Institute. My Dad was a Dispensationalist. When I was a Student at MBI I realized that the Bible didn't teach the PreTrib rapture and I settled on Post Trib Premillenalism for much of life. I used to get in Arguments with my Dad about the PreTrib rapture and no matter what you told him he believed this was a fundamental doctrine and the Church would be rescued from the Tribulation. The main problem is they reject the Gospels as being for the Church. Now I'm Orthodox which is a long journey out of the nonsense!

CI Schofield and John Nelson Darby were freemasons and Lawyers. Darby was a close associate of the Crowleys who produced Alistair Crowley. CI Schofield was a run out of Nebraska territory for being a huxter, who divorced his wife abandoned his daughter and married his secretary. Then appeared on the east coast presenting himself as a theologian.

I once asked a friend of mine what he would do if there was no pretrib rapture. His face went blank for a few seconds, and he started laughing. He couldn't even consider that possibility.

A very good breakdown of the subject, the heresy, and importantly what scripture actually says on the subject. The Christian historical view shared by the church fathers, St Paul and the Apostles. Praise God, the Father, Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit the author of truth.

Vast numbers of church memebers will be aghast when the rapture happens, and they find themselves left behind because they did not repent from sin, and watch and pray always to be accounted worthy to ESCAPE all the things that are coming, as Jesus warned us all to do.

I'm a recovering atheist interested in Orthodoxy, and I find many assertions in this episode troubling. Claiming that the Israeli Jews are merely Rhinelanders and Eastern Europeans is rather problem, especially when the largest group of Jews in Israel are Mizrahi, with roots in the Middle East. I also don't think that but for dispensationalism Americans would be supporting wiping Israeli Jews, Arabs, Muslims, Christians and Druze off of the face of the earth. One does not need to believe in red heifers to believe that Israel (having been already established) should be allowed to exist. I greatly respect Fr. Tom and Dr. Jenkins, and I found the dispensationalism piece enlightening, but the politics portion was dismissive and simplistic.

Christ didn’t give authority to some unlimited succession of bishops.
@harrygarris69217 ай бұрын
Christ gave authority to the apostles and the apostles gave authority to the bishops. St. Paul's two letters to Timothy are literally an instruction on how Timothy is to function as a hierarch of the Church. He gives all kinds of examples of how Timothy should be using his own authority, not as some kind of representative of Paul, throughout these letters. He even explicitly gives Timothy the commission to "command and teach" the believers in the faith in 1 Timothy 4:11. Also, in the book of Acts we see that James the brother of the Lord is the head of the Church in Jerusalem. Where did he get that authority? The Bible doesn't say that Jesus made his brother the head of the Church and it doesn't call him an apostle either. The only people present who could have given James authority over the Church in Jerusalem... were the apostles themselves. Meaning that the authority Jesus gave to the apostles didn't die with them, they could transfer their authority to their successors.

Prot here, searching the orthodox faith. You mentioned, and I have heard from others also, that the Orthodox never read in church or teach on the book of Revelation. I understand this is to avoid division and the difficulties around it, however is this not contrary to what John has written in the very beginning of the book? Revelation 1:3 -" blessed is the one who reads ALOUD the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who HEAR, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near".. This very much would indicate that Revelation should in fact, be read aloud in church?
@sezcerjan44318 ай бұрын
@@Silentbo_7 Thanks for your gracious response. I also grew up in Fundamentalist churches and I can attest to this way of reasoning. I personally have come to the conclusion that the book of Revelation is prophecy yet to be fulfilled, but we are not actually meant to understand it fully and have it all mapped out. We need to be okay with the mysteries in scripture. However reading scripture aloud (ALL scripture) is not just healthy for us but essential. I would be fine with a pastor/ priest saying.. "I don't know".."I'm not 100% sure," but lets read this anyway because "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness"... What about all the other prophecies in scripture that don't make complete sense to us? are they also not read aloud? So I suppose that is all I'm asking..is why Revelation avoided in church readings, if it is for our encouragement and blessing? 🙏❤🔥☦😇

it also has to do when the book was accepted into the canon. The litugrical calendar and things were largely determined by the time it was fully accepted by the churches. but it also a very confusing book. check fr. stephen de young's intro to the book of revelation on his whole council of God podcast, to here more precisely about it.

Read the Bible through the lens of the Church and tradition. Ok, well you’ve got your lens too, LOL. Instead of the Church and traditions, I will rely on the Spirit to lead me to truth. I felt the version of dispensationalism presented here was a little misleading.
