The problem is these platforms and the internet should have been regulated like a public utility from the very beginning, but after they deregulated the public airwaves (I was a radio professional in 80's, 90's and early 200's), the flood of lying, invasion of privacy, marketing, surveillance and misinformation was inevitable. A wealth tax at this point should be a no-brainer, but most politicians at all levels of government are scared to death of even doing that.
