First important part is to identify if it actually IS stainless steel. Most surfaces such as dishwasher doors and refrigerator-outside-surfaces are actually a 'stainless steel look' surface.

This is exactly what I was thinking! I've been doubtful of all my appliances and sink! Perhaps there is a combination of SS and aluminum or some other, less expensive, metal? The vinegar/paper towel didn't work with my stove knobs and other water streaks on my fridge and dishwasher. Uggh.

My favourite kitchen look is composite (resin or HDF) cabinetry with a flat surface and chamfered recesses for an elegant, yet easy to clean, appearance. Appliance-wise, I have always loved stainless for white goods and, of course, the sink, but coloured brushed steel for countertop appliances. As for the countertop itself, that’s easy: quartz. 1 1/2 inch thick, and seamless.

Funnily, what I use for water stains is a 50 / 50 mix of vinegar and dish soap. I say funnily because I thought it was a hack I got from you years ago. What I used to do is what you did, but with a layer of plastic wrap over the paper towel to prevent evaporation, and while that worked great, it was a hassle keeping the towel and plastic from getting out of shape (you know how plastic wrap does when it folds over and sticks to itself.) Granted, I was not fighting small drip water stains, but rather large calcium patches where water would leak and stand continuously on my counters, and build up. The dish soap / vinegar solution works because the vinegar stays in suspension in the soap and doesn't evaporate for hours. What youre left with after you wipe off the calcium is soap, which is handy. Thanks for the great info in this, especially (for me) the part about mineral oil for the finish.

Have you found a way to get those tiny black spots off the stainless steel? I have no problem getting the water stains off but I have these tiny black marks that will not come off. They have a little raised texture.
@kenmore014 ай бұрын
@@swaha55 I'm no chemist, but I'll say it's likely what you have is not made of stainless steel but steel which has been plated with stainless. A magnet will not stick to true stainless steel, so you can test it. Those raised black spots are probably where there was a tiny hole in the plating, and the steel underneath is rusting.
@swaha554 ай бұрын
@@kenmore01 so if the kitchen magnets stick to my fridge it is plated with stainless steel. Those little kitchen magnets do stick to my fridge so it makes sense. It’s not real stainless steel.. Is there anyway to remove those little black specks?
@kenmore014 ай бұрын
@@swaha55 probably not in any way that will not mess up the appearance in other ways, and since you're talking about a fridge door, yes, it would be plated. Depending on the year and model of your fridge, you may be able to order a new panel. Often the appearance face is replaceable so you could get white, black or stainless as options. If that's the case, you may be able to order a new stainless one. Sadly though, it may not be worth it to you, so you may just be stuck with them.

@cleanmyspace, Question about the dish soap cleaning solution: Is there such a minimal amount of soap in the solution that you don't need to do a rinse pass? Perhaps I'm using too much dish soap, as i get a "sticky, tacky residue" after spraying surfaces. I'm concerned about soap residue being on food preparation surfaces, as I've made that mistake before... Thanks, -David

You might not be wasting any energy, but at the sacrifice of natural flow and momentum. Good thing your hand is not Evel Knievel because that was an awkward jump and you bounced the landing pretty badly. If it doesn't seem like much, watch in super slow-mo. Though it's pretty obvious in real time as well. 2:41 And a few seconds later you nearly drop the bike. Lucky it's just a hand towel in this case. All the while your bragging about your style. SMH Otherwise, I do appreciate the info. Thank you for that. And for speaking in an adult timbre rather than a squeaky mock teen girl voice.
