I appreciate that you spelled "blerng" correctly.

Someone needs to put out a classic looking Composition notebook with fountain pen friendly paper. That would make a perfect combo. Thanks as always for the video!

I hear that some of them are really good with fountain pens. I know some bloggers have talked about how to find those. Has to die Twitch where they’re made, as I remember.

You say that a Jowo nib can't be fitted in the Schmidt FH452 nib unit housing because the feed is different, the nib is different, the nib is a different size and the nib curvature is different from a Jowo #12 nib. But the feed looks very similar to the Jowo #12 feed, so I would expect the Schmidt nib to be sloping, too. I believe Jowo makes the nibs for Schmidt, so I would expect them to make their feeds, too. Are you saying that the feed, and nib, in the FH452 nib unit does not curve/slope like the Jowo #12 feed & nib? Is the Schmidt FH452 feed straight, hard, inflexible, like those that used Jowo BF" nibs? If so, I find that appealing as I do not like the Jowo curving/sloping feeds and nibs because I can only use Jowo #12 nibs, which, I find, are hard-as-nails; I would rather get a pen that uses Jowo #10(#5) nibs since they have more spring, more bounce, so they feel softer, than their #6 counterparts.

I wonder if this is not a case of "same wine, different bottle", or a distinction without a difference from other stub nibs?
@inkdependence
@inkdependence 2 жыл бұрын
It's really not, for a few reasons. Custom ground nibs are very different to the standard "1.1 stub" style that are available from lots of brands. The Journaler is also more of an italic than a stub, and I'm not aware of any stock italic nibs. And you can buy this custom ground nib (by one of the best nib grinders around) on your pen straight from a retailer. The only other brand that really does that is Franklin-Christoph. Whether all of that is worth the price is up to the buyer, of course, but it is different from ordering a pen with a 1.1 stock nib on it.

@@inkdependence Thanks for the informative reply, Mike. MrPen UK has a stock italic nib. I don't think I have ever used custom ground nibs. I think "bespoke" is another name for it. I once heard there are nibmeisters that grind a nib based on a writing sample provided by the customer. My handwriting is legible, but lacks eye appeal. However, some nibs do add style to my cursive, usually stub or italic.

@@peterpuleo2904 I found the site and it looks like those are for Italix pens, and they say they're hand ground, too, so not really stock nibs (I use that term to refer to nibs that are straight from the nib factory like JoWo or Bock or whatever). I've heard of Italix pens before, but I've never used one. There are certainly nib grinders who do that sort of thing through the mail or at pen shows. There seem to be fewer of them in the UK than elsewhere, but there are definitely some out there.

@@inkdependence I have a few Italix pens. Excellent quality and wide variety for moderate prices.

I had a pen pal tell me she bought one of these nibs, and I said "what's that? I never heard of that..." and mailed my reply yesterday. Life is funny. Now I'm tempted myself.

Yes, this is a really nice looking pen. I only have the Estie until now. Must look out for an Camden. This pattern though... It nearly had to be called "camouflage" in the world of stationery. Oh. And a nice review of the pen and nib. :)

Does the Journaler nib write like a medium SIG?
@inkdependence
@inkdependence 4 жыл бұрын
Not too far off, I guess. The SIG does have a feature that will change the line based on the angle of your hold, and I don’t think the Journaler does that. If you don’t vary that, then they’ll be a bit similar.

I like the Camden, i loved when they came out with this more aesthetic pattern, especially bc it connects our love of notebooks along with it; I'm not such a fan of the current colors enough to buy it, do you think theyll come out with more? I mean, now the notebooks come with that pattern in every color of the rainbow right? Also, the name of an ink partially sells me on buying it or not and "Sepia" sounds too pompous to me, it's brown and thats one reason why i appreciate SBRE Brown's naming of his ink; its only convenient that his last names Brown imo. God bless you Mike, love your reviews!

I'd be surprised if there weren't more colors for the Camden. I suppose it depends on the way that this set sells. I just don't really like the word "sepia." I think it's kinda gross and odd.
