The Leftist cult is way more dangerous than the moral majority ever was. The Leftist cult has more power, control over institutions and believes ends justifies means to destroy all those they find offensive. The moral majority wanted to stop the object of offense, not destroy lives. The right never had power the leftwing cult has today. We are headed for disaster if things don’t change.

I also heard that the channel is managed by Spectacor, Comcast's child company that mainly sportscasts in Philadelphia. VENN seems more like what G4 was than this soulless cash-grab by NBCUniversal ever can be, and they're available through various ad-supported IPTV providers for *FREE.* By contrast, Philo (the only TV provider that G4 has aside from Verizon, Cox and Comcast) is also losing subs, but it doesn't appear to be about woke-scolding on the surface.

“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it. A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” ― Roald Dahl, The Twits

Relevant C.S. Lewis quote: "Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

Isn’t it just so sad that I’m the nineties and early 2000s we were literally one step away from actually being a color blind society? We were right there. Yup, it was definitely the fault of Obama that brought back the rampant racism we see today since the democrat party used racism to deflect criticism from their holy black messiah. When Obama won, I thought "Oh well. At least that'll put the capstone on American Racism. The final piece confirming it's truly dead." Literally the first time I heard "America is a white supremacist nation" was when we had a black president. The damage that man did is astounding. But then... he also prepped us for the God Emperor. Ironically. I don't think it was Obama being Black that caused him to win. It was the failure of Bush, and wanting to shake up Politics (Almost like we did with Trump in 2016) that elected Obama. Sadly him basically being Bush but an African Re-skin, and him basically still being in the DC swamp, just canceled that notion outright. Had Obama actually been the change he wanted to be, we could of had America being a slightly Lib Left country, but still kept that 90s and 2000s Punk Culture. But him and the Democrat party ran on a platform of trying to serve every group, and having Public and private opinions, and it basically lead to the Balkinization of the Democrat party. And how do you try to unify a Balkanized party? Paint the other side as the ultimate Bad guys, and having to come together to stop them. That's why the Media spent 4 years calling Trump a Nazi.

I think it's one of the only major culture battles they've ever lost. Even with Comics having japanese parallels to hold them to account, they still managed to destroy the American comic industry. While they certainly harmed western gaming, they honestly didn't do THAT much damage to it. So it's more than just us having a backup in a woke-free culture. And I think it's because gaming really is fundamentally anti-wokist. It's a pure meritocracy, where nobody gets any bonus points based on their skin color. Which is almost never known anyway. Gotta admit I'm not really a fan of things like Jackass. Not a "moral outrage" thing, but "gross-out humor" just strikes me as gross instead of funny, and I don't think seeing guys intentionally hurt themselves is funny, either. It just seems kind of dumb.
@catadoxas
@catadoxas 2 жыл бұрын
hm you have to kind of consider what it grew out of. jackass grew out of skateboard bail videos. sadly its an inescapable part of skateboarding to injure yourself and skateboard tapes usually featured a section for people to "bond" over. like "yes, like you even the icons of the sport fall and hurt themselves, often worse than you even". jackass started when someone asked the question of "what is the best way to defend yourself, electroshockers, pepperspray or what else?" and johnny knoxville who was making skatevideos at the time decided to try them all out on himself, that turned into a huge sucess"

I'm not a fan of gross out humor either, but some of Jackass is the hardcore slapstick stuff SFO was talking about. Just lookup the stunt they did with a large hand, it's freaking glorious slapstick. Also watch the little people bar fight. I don't usually find the whole midget humor thing funny, but there's so much chaos going on that it's like a clown show.

What's sad is that certain episodes of early SpongeBob have been censored. The acid scenes from "Just One Bite" have been cut out (the "You like Krabby Patties, don't you, Squidward?" episode) while "Mid-Life Crustacean" (the "Can you feel it, Mr. Krabs?" episode) has been removed from airing entirely.

What’s particularly interesting to me about Jackass as a cultural phenomenon is that a big reason why it and it’s related projects exist at all is because of Adam Spiegel/Spike Jonze- an arthouse film maker who still works with the jackass guys while doing more serious films like 2014’s Her. I feel like people tend to forget that “irreverent art” can still exist in symbiosis with “high art”. Sometimes we just need to embrace the fact that life is fucking ridiculous.

This 90s kid thanks you for addressing this topic. I was around in the 80s but the 90s was the first decade I really remember. There remains a place in my heart for all three kinds of humor you described. Few things aggravate me as much as some woke newcomer to the hobby calling old school gamers bigots and accusing us of gatekeeping. I was there. We were the fringe who were looked at as nerds and weirdos by the cool kids. If you were into video games and nerd culture, you were in , regardless of your skin color or background. In retrospect, we never should have allowed the cool kids into our hobbies.

I never really went through a rebellious phase. I’m just not a contrarian I guess. I remember as a kid looking up to all the protagonists in media who were just awsome charismatic people who were self-sacrificing and kind and that the type of person I wanted to be and I always tried to model myself and my actions away from self serving ones and towards honesty and kindness. I was a very contemplative kid so I thought through why people did things and got to the root of peoples actions. In doing that I was able to understand what ego and greed was behind my actions so I could properly curate them. I know most people aren’t as weird and methodical as I was or as aware of their actions, but I think it’s possible to instill in children the understanding that there is good and evil. There is wrong and right. And that no matter who your mad at or what you are rebelling against that’s not an excuse to do something wrong.

Such a missed opportunity, too, and a way to combine old media and new media tactics. For example, in the 90s there were a number relationship advice radio shows hosted by women. Once in a while they'd get sexually explicit prank calls but the general reaction was to just roll with it briefly before moving onto the next caller. The 2020s version of this would be to read out the nasty superchats in a sultry voice or some other quasi-erotic mannerism. It'd connect a familiar, nostalgic vibe with a newer but also familiar monetization and crowd interaction method. And the screeching woman would get the respect she desperately wants by doing this.

The whole "no zoomer can ever be a real gamer" thing is why I get frustrated with people who just LOOOVE Harry Potter these days. I read the books as they came out and was mercilessly teased and mocked as a 'nerd' because I read the books constantly and had every spell and detail from them memorized. Now suddenly everyone in my generation loves Harry Potter? Everyone my age talks about what Hogwarts house they're in cuz they love it so much? Cuz it was their 'childhood'? It's ridiculously hypocritical and frustrating. Way off topic, I know, but hearing Dev talk about zoomers claiming to be gamers suddenly made me realize why I'm frustrated with modern Harry Potter fans- cuz they weren't bullied for it like I was.

A million times THIS. You'd think people would had learned the "do's and don'ts" about approaching these sort of issues all the way back since 2015-2016, but I guess not. I don't doubt that sexism is still a noticeable issue in gaming spaces, but going about it this way does you no favors imo. At best you'll just cause "gridlock" sort of outcome when discussing multi layered loaded issues of this nature. Or worse, undo some progress that others prior fought tooth and nail to accomplish. Personally, I think the best way to make meaningful progress with these sorts of issues is to have a reasonable amount of patience and work at cultivating at getting people on your side organically. The "drawing the line in the sand" method of presenting your political stances is way too risky for a setting like this. But I mean, ultimately, they're free to do what they want. Just wondering now if they're genuinely ready to lay in the bed they made...
