This was one of the most informative and important SAS video I think I've ever seen, I feel like people need to talk about this aspect of it more, just because it's not sunshines and rainbows doesn't mean it's not there

yes! i thought that if i’m telling people about all the good things and reasons why i love it i should say some of the downfalls of traveling by sea as well!

I live in Puerto Rico and one time one of our beaches had to be closed because a cruise ship dumped the sewage water near the shore. I hope SAS doesn’t do that because it took so long for that beach to be deemed safe and a lot of sea life was harmed, but thankfully no humans were.

that’s terrible! i’m sure SAS doesn’t do that, and that they’d receive a lot of backlash if they did!! it just sucks that other cruise ships do though :(( i wish there was a way to travel that wasn’t bad for the environment in any way!

This video is so important thanks for making it! Definitely things i need it consider! I had an issue with the choice of Israel as well so I hope SAS addresses it.

i am hoping that more awareness can be brought to their decisions, and that that’ll influence them to say something about it!! hopefully this video reaches a lot of people so that they can all consider these aspects of SAS too!

Great video. Something that rubs me the wrong way is the Ghana tourism. White kids posting pics and vids of little kids at school? Who does that benefit? Would that happen in Dubrovnik or Tokyo?
@jessshorst3 жыл бұрын
ohhh i wish i had brought that up in the video now that you reminded me! it’s so true that no one takes pictures with kids in every country, but there are so many photos from ghana…. and no matter the intentions behind them, those photos can come off as “white savior-y,” and it definitely rubs me the wrong way as well! while they talked a bit about ethical photography on the ship, that point could’ve been talked about a lot more. thanks for bringing it up again!!!

I am probably not your target audience, but I just found your videos recently, and as a long-time lecturer at a big (land-based, lol) state university, I've been fascinated and troubled by SAS for a long time now. So far you are the only SAS content creator I've found who is able to take on these tough, troublesome aspects of the program in a well-researched, mature way. It seems like everyone else is like "It changed my life in only positive ways! Good vibes only!" when the reality HAS to be more complicated than that. I think its possible for students to go on these voyages, learn a ton, have a great time, AND also try to come to terms with how complicated this program is economically/socially/culturally/environmentally. You're doing an awesome job of this and I hope future voyagers find your content before they go!

the target audience is whoever finds worth in these videos!! thank you so much for your comment, i definitely felt a bit surprised/blindsided going on SAS without realizing the way wealth affects your travel and only seeing (like you said) the “perfect” posts on social media about it, so i wanted to be able to educate anyone who is going on the voyage!!!!

but again, thank you so much :) i’m happy to be helpful for everyone considering this as an option for study abroad!

Finally someone addressed the ethical concerns! SAS also has countries like India included as a part of their Voyage, where the political situation is pathetic.

Biogradable plastic is coated with chemicals to break down quicker causing plastic to go into the water system like rivers and beaches etc.
