@@samhodgins9804 Yes, we do. The First Past the Post system allows the government with the majority of seats to govern and get the policies through, for which it was elected. If the electorate finds they don't like the government, they can boot them back out next time around. That is democracy in action. The unelected House of Lords has a level of political independence which allows it to kick back bad legislation, thereby protecting the ordinary man/woman from the excesses of the elected government. The HoL proposes virtually no legislation of its own, and exists purely as a brake on bad government. If the HoL were elected, it would either be the government's lap-dog and just roll over, or it would stymie the policies for which the government was elected.

As an American, I don't understand why all countries simply don't tell the EU to kiss their asphalt and aboragate their treaties with the EU and stop sending them money?
