Chaetopelma olivaceum or the European Tarantula is a large Theraphosid spider which inhabits various habitats around the Mediterranean Sea. This video shows diffrent habitats of this spider on the island of Cyprus. Where these spiders find enough food they are living in large colonies especially around burial caves.

They're about as nasty as wandering spiders in terms of aggressiveness, but fortunately their bite is rather tame. Like being stung by a bee - it'll hurt a little for a couple of days, and that's it.

Very very nice but I don’t consider Chaetopelma olivaceum to be the European tarantula but rather the Middle Eastern gold. Ischnocolus valentinus is the European tarantula.

Wow, dude! Just stumbled across your channel. It is so valuable that you actually document the natural habitats of the spiders. My background is in tropical fish keeping, but I am getting started in the Tarantula hobby these days. This channel will be very valuable for me. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome video! Very educational! Little question: what is the approximate body length of a mature female of this species? My girl currently has a body length of exactly 3.5 cm, and she's at least one molt ahead of the male, a sackmate of hers.

Lets see what your options are, you can’t go anywhere in africa, south america, south asia or the western middle east. Your only option for north america is Canada and for oceania New Zealand. As for europe just don’t visit Italy, Portugal, Spain and Greece. To be honest if I were you I’d stay away from Britain also because arachnids in the UK was just that bad.

I thought that the only tarantulas were from Europe and they started calling all large spiders around the world tarantulas.
@WorldofSpiders
@WorldofSpiders 5 жыл бұрын
It's more a language problem. Correct would be Theraphosidae but in english people call them tarantulas even though it would be more correct to use this word for Lycosidae ( a.e. for Lycosa tarantula ).

@@WorldofSpiders Iam serious, can they sneak inside my apartment? The largest we have here where i live is black house spiders, kind of like black widows is size, and i think those is to big when they are fully grown. A tarantella or a huntsman would be to much to see in my home. Outdoors is ok. Is there a spider police in cyprus that i call if i see one?
@headrockbeats

I've encountered several Chaetopelma olivaceum in my apartment over the last couple of decades - and I live two floors above ground level, in a city. The adult males like to roam around in autumn. However you won't see them in winter or spring at all, and overall they are quite rare creatures unless you go looking for them in the wild.
@heww3960
@heww3960 4 жыл бұрын
@@headrockbeats But how can they be rare if you see them often in your apartment? Which city do you live in and how do they get inside?
@headrockbeats
@headrockbeats 4 жыл бұрын
I've seen them several times in the last few _decades._ That's pretty rare. I suppose they get inside by climbing up the walls - though I've never seen one climbing anything other than in KZbin videos. Maybe they climb up the trees and accidentally fall into my balcony or something.
