Not a bad idea. The counter point is health is measured as SoH. It would be yet something else for the average consumer to understand and introduces a measure they would not use day to day. EV adoption is global but state wide appeal has been slow. Part of that is disinformation and part of that is the learning curve.

It needs to be both. The “regular car” part of an EV wears just like any other car: brakes, suspension, steering, A/C, window motors, etc. All of these can and will wear out and can cost a lot of money. Teslas have more suspension issues than I think are normal and it’s NOT that they weigh more. It’s the quality and heft of the components.

2022 Model Y performance. Put about 40K miles on it. Two 2500 mile trips. No problem changing. Level 2 home charger. Charge to 80% for daily driving. The performance never gets old. But I do miss the smell of gasoline. Play about $20. A month home charging.

I’m a test driver for a company that tests production, pre-production & prototype cars for several manufacturers. (BMW, Ford, Rolls Royce, Jeep, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, GM and Tesla) We “torture-tested” 3 Teslas with 10 years worth of use in one year. We drove these cars (2 Model Y’s and a Model 3) 500-600 miles per day, seven days a week, and only supercharged them (to 80%) 5 or 6 times daily. Not that they needed to be charged but to put cycles on the batteries. I owned a 2022 Bronco 2-door OBX, a 2018 Mustang GT Performance Package Convertible, and a 2021 Sienna XSE. What do I think? I traded in the Bronco and bought a 2020 MSLR+ on Feb 29th, 2024 and then I sold the Mustang and bought a 2022 MYLR on April 15, 2024. I still have the Sienna. My top tips 1. Check and maintain your tire pressures monthly rotate your tires every 5,000 miles and enjoy the car. 2. “FSD- Full Self Driving” gets better every day. 3. Forget “range miles” and use “percentage” for the amount of battery or “State of Charge” aka “SOC. Drive the car until you’re down to 15%-20% SOC and then decide where to charge. My power company has a program where they pulled an electrical permit, sent an electrician to wire and install a charger in my garage, and let me charge UNLIMITED OFF PEAK (nights, weekends, and holidays) all for $38 a month (no money upfront. I now have a Medical Courier business and my reason for the switch to Tesla is $1,000 per month in my pocket. With my new business, I was spending $700-$800 for gas and I need a $130 oil change/tire rotation every month.

@@horseathalt7308 Thanks but I don’t understand your reply. I would argue that 95% of the population is trying to lower monthly expenses in this horrible economy which is my situation. There are many ways for people who reside in apartments to own EVs. Sure, the savings are maximized if you do charge where you live and off-peak. I’ll say that EVs aren’t for everyone but they can serve a purpose. I feel that most of the resistance towards EV’s are driven by them being forced on the public. Buying a used EV makes the most sense because EVs have thousands fewer moving parts than traditional cars do, therefore buying an EV with some miles on the car is a great way to enter and have a less expensive EV ownership. I don’t care what anyone buys or drives. The people who can afford the new EVs are paying a premium. Early adopters always pay more that's how it works. I am not even close to being rich, just trying to spend wisely.

@@horseathalt7308 its a car.. If there is an issue that is powertran related the powertrain warranty is 8 years, so Tesla would be fixing it anyway. If you don’t want one, don’t buy one. Leave the battery life indicator on Percentage over Miles remaining. And you’ll gonna love it over a regular high mileage ice car. No maintenance, just tire changes, cabin filter. No need to worry about head gasket, alternators, transmission slips, busted radiator, smog check, etc. the pros out weight the cons over Ice. And Over the Air updates shouldn’t be call Recalls. The media love the slam Tesla’s for that Over The Air Update. A recall should be if the car needs to physically go back to the dealer or shop to physically fix it. It’s like software updates on our iPhones and androids. When phones gets updates, they don’t call that recalls.

I am not anti-EV. Everyone has their own preferences and also their own needs. In my opinion, EVs have certain issues that need to be addressed before I would consider one. Right now an EV would not work for me because a lot of the driving that I do is in rural areas far from the charging infrastructure, and overnight charging is often not an option. But not everyone is in the same situation as I am. But everyone should have the opportunity to drive the vehicle that works best for them. In my opinion, the government should not be stepping in and trying to ban one or the other technologies, or mandate that one technology has to take precedence over the other ones.

Absolutely agree 100%. I currently own Tesla, PHEV and ICE cars. BEV is not for everyone and certainly not what I prefer to drive on long road trips. I drove my Tesla, hybrid and ICE from NY to CA during winter storms so I have experienced them all.

I bought a used 2022 Model 3 Long Range with a whopping 115,000 miles on the clock at the end of June. Prices have already risen since Hertz finished selling their 2022 Model 3s.The battery has only lost 5.5% of capacity, so I know it was treated well. I've gotten 161 MPGe driving on my local 2 lane roads on a cool morning, and 110 MPGe on a day with triple digit hot weather and going 70 mph. All this economy from a car with all-wheel drive, 425 horsepower, 475 lb-ft of torque, and doing 0.95 Gs on the skidpad. I came to this from a 1997 Saturn SL1 with roll up windows and a 5 speed manual that I'd been driving for 8 years!

@premiercconstruction that's on three Teslas Y and 2 Xs. My first X was totaled when a kid wrecked me on the interstate. All 3 lost about 8% in the first 20-30k miles, then stopped declining. Tires, cabin filters, aftermarket rear camber arms to stop tire wear on the Xs. No breakdowns or failures of any kind. I do need to refill the washer fluid in my X with 85k on it.

a Tesla with 100k miles/6 years will still have some battery/drivetrain warranty left, so the risk of buying one used is not a significant factor. When buying, note that standard range and long range models have different warranties.

Awesome that you're doing this channel, as there IS a big learning curve in driving/owning a Tesla or an EV. My biggest worry on a used model would be that someone abused the battery (constantly charging it to 100% and letting it sit at that %, and running it down to near 0%). That's like someone never changing the oil in a gas car. There is a battery test you can do (a simple one and a more complex one) -- did you do that? BTW, I've owned a new Tesla for a year and love it--it was so nice NOT getting it from a greedy thieving dealer.

At 78 I don't drive. I spent 30 years in cars. From oil changer to Porsche Tech and most everything in between. I was the top National salesman in 1975 and was a Service Manager and General Manager at several New Car Dealerships. I owned and managed an independent shop with my son. I ended at an RV Solar, Lithium battery shop. I love RVs, EVs & I.C.E. I was also a Code Monkey at Apple and Adobe. And have a PhD too.

80-100K miles is not especially high miles for a Tesla. No more so than a modern ICE car. 50 years ago when I first started owning cars 100K miles was a lot. These days most cars seem to make it to 200K or more. I’d consider 100K on a Tesla as about 1/2 used - and $22K for that very clean S seems like a very good deal. Over the next couple years (if you keep it that long) let us know if it holds up as well as a good quality ICE vehicle.

Used Teslas used to be more expensive than new ones. The tax credits and expanding inventory have pushed prices down. I’m looking at Model Y’s with 30k miles for 24-26k. The $4k tax credit on used EVs brings the price close to 20k.

Right Tesla’s prices haven’t crashed. This guy bought two 2019 M3 standard 83k mileage $17.7k and 2019 MS LR $22.7k 100k mileage. Also these prices were at auction so they’re dirt cheap compared to buying from dealer as he said is $5-10k more. Any car bought at auction would be car price crashed!! I had a 2011 Range Rover Supercharged brand new $105k I bought it 3yrs used with 33k mileage. I could’ve sold it in 2023 with 134k mileage for $10k. At auction he would pay $5k for it!!

The price for the model S is very low. The model 3 is just OK. Tesla owners tend to take very good care of their cars and they can easily last 200K+ miles. They don't suffer nearly as much wear and tear as gas cars.

Great concept for a new channel. I would recommend you purchase a Chevy Bolt (EUV is the better model) in the future to give you a comparison to what the other manufacturers have to offer. I own a 23 Bolt EUV and I really love driving the car. The Premier trim has a lot of very nice features you wouldn't expect in a lower priced car.

These EVs are suburban cars. I drive the interstate 700/800 miles every week and its rare to see an EV on the road. These are soccer mom cars. Taking kids to school or going shopping because of short travel time. Hybrid is the way to go.

Instant power, fantastic cornering, tons of storage spaces, incredible sound system, cheap fuel bills, and in 8 months no maintainence. Soon I'll rotate the tires. The rear motor on Model S made before 2021 tend to leak coolant inside the motor especially on higher mileage ones. There are couple aftermarket solutions to fix the issue before it cause permanent damage to the motor.

The average new car is about $46k. You can buy a new Tesla for about $30k. There is no maintenance. My last 12k miles cost $200 in electricity.

Buddy look into your state tax credit. At one point California was giving out $7k tax credit on top of the $7k government credit so u can get a BRAND New car/ Tesla for $24k. California ran out of money but states like Colorado are giving out high ev credits. Evs are pretty much a government hand out lol in Colorado people are leasing out evs for $15 a month. I have read that electric cars have a few things that wear differently than Ice cars , because if the weight bushings , brakes , tires, tie rods suspension parts , even Tesla found out that they had to upgrade certain items on later models , a educated buyer will be looking for these items and wether they were served. once he gets used to them, he will cringe every time he has to work on an ICE car. EVs have very modular construction, so even smaller shops can do many complicated jobs. EVs in their simplicity will bring back DIY repairs once the mystery of new technology dissipates.

Brakes will require maintenance due to seizing up due to lack of use. Both Model S and Model 3s have suspension issues. Both have radiators to circulate coolant through the battery pack.

You are very smart to keep on top of the possible used cars that are becoming available in the market space. There is an upcoming generation that will still need to have cheaper used cars that they can buy. However this new generation is used to high tech and prefer it. They will want and prefer to buy a used EV rather than an ICE vehicle. Given that, your future as a used car dealer depends on knowing the EV products and models so that you can accurately bid on them in auctions.

I drive a chevy bolt. The reason I got it was because the downturn in used EV prices and the tax credit made it affordable. I always wanted an electric car that could not afford one. I got a 2022 Chevy bolt for 16,000 I absolutely love it. It was the only car I have ever enjoyed driving. I have previously driven in Corollas. I will absolutely try to buy eevee's from now on as long as I can get one that I can afford. If eevee's cross the same as internal combustion engine vehicles they would be adopted at a much higher rate. Except for the Chevy bolts most TVs are out of people's price range. This is why people are not adopting them en masse

People need to know about registration costs, title costs, charging costs, insurance costs, who can work on them when you live in a small town. Will you charge these cars in an attached garage to your house? Will your house insurance will go up? Tire costs, repair costs, how long does it take to get parts? Do you need a second gas car to be able to drive while your electric car is in the garage or body shop? Will your lifestyle change owning an electric car?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

YES on insurance! As an average driver doing 10-15k miles a year, most if not all your savings on gas will be offset by higher EV insurance costs. My experience.

Dad taught electric shop and with a donated mini-bike frame that had no motor, and help from the welding, sheet metal and small engine shops, he built the electric mini-bike. Used a car battery, car starter, and a push button to power it. 35 years later I'm ready to try electric again.

You are just wrong about why prices have come down. It is simply that the price of new EVs has fallen so much because of the inflation reduction tax credits. A brand new Model 3 or Model Y is so cheap because of the tax credits and price reductions. Hertz dumped the cars because they saw resale values were plummeting. They knew that selling them first would be better than selling them later for so much less.

Not understanding EVs buy the cheapest model 3 is supposed to be 32990 new and don't you get a 7500 tax credit as well. So why would anyone pay 20k for a used one especially a 5 yrbold one. That market is very confusing to me. If I do buy an EV I'll be leasing no doubt.

I have a 2020 Tesla Model 3 Long range. I love it. My only complaint is the text messaging. It’s 1000% total garbage in comparison to my UConnect in my Charger. I actually hate that. Other than that I am eyeing up and waiting for the right time to trade up to a new Hyland Model in 2-3 years.

Teslas are very popular here in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale are but a lot of used car lots are flooded with used ones that are barely moving. The great lease and finance deals on new Teslas make it hard to move used models.

Well to go from my 2008 Nissan Hybrid to the 2023 model Y LR w/FSD took me 20 minutes and to go from my 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 to my Tesla Cyber truck took me 15 minutes to get used to it. Admittedly, the Cyber truck is a lot more fun.

Year on year new EV numbers sold for July in the UK are up 18.5% with EVs outselling diesel three to one [diesel down 21.9%]. Does sound like a crash all right, but not for EVs. [EV sold 27,335 vs Diesel sold 8,708] And this is BEFORE China arrives to the party.

I had a model three with long range. It drove great, but range was really not over 300 and I was always having to look for a charger when I went anywhere outside of my local area. It was a pain. I ended up going hybrid without charging capability because it’s so much easier to just gas up.

Great video! I appreciate your insight! I currently live in WA State where I'm hoping to take advantage of the EV rebate and tax credit. I'm considering financing a preowned 2020 Model 3 standard range plus with 11,296 miles for $24,999! I'm hoping to really get a great OTD price and combine with other incentives (student credit and rebates) to keep my monthly payment affordable. I do think it's interesting that the state and federal rebate is specifically for low income individuals (AGI less than $75K for single filers). Crazy! I'm hoping to get an insurance quote to see exactly how affordable this car can be for the "average" person

Technology always will evolve. I remember reading an article years ago on how the investors in the whale oil industry with conviction told us that we would always be a country that relied on whale oil!

I would like to see what your savings are by comparing gas and electricity costs. The number of miles you drive and how hard it is to find public charging stations. What is the battery degradation? I have 2012 model S and 2004 Toyota 4runner. Will reply later with my scenario it really depends on your utility cost $/kWh and also your local gas costs. My model S with 120k miles still has over 88% of original battery performance. Cold does impact charge storage more than heat but it's not that significant in my area near Lake Tahoe it gets plenty cold.

My last 12k cost me $200 in electricity. Turn that into a gas car getting 25 mpg and you are at $2400. Now multiply that difference by every year you will drive the car. Now subtract the cost of every oil and filter you will never need.

Here in NY, charging at home for me costs 1/3 to 1/4 on a per mile basis vs. gas. So 3-4 cents per mile at home, 8-10 cents per mile at Northeast superchargers, 11-13 cents per mile for my Honda CRV. LOL my car's NY inspection was 5 minutes and $10. Re. cold - I keep my car in the garage and tell it when to get ready to leave and it warms up the battery and I haven't noticed any difference. But sitting outside and not told to warm up you'll see a difference but really not that much. Biggest thing I noticed was out west on a trip. Normally I'll get like 3 miles per percent. Going 80 mph with a 25 mph headwind I was getting like 2 miles per percent. Don't know what a gas car would do under those conditions.

The Tesla's used as taxis are clocking over 400,000 + miles with less than 17% degradation on the battery. Maybe you need to change your idea as to what is high mileage.

Why is Tesla predictions on mileage optimistic? Well it depends on you drive. Take a look at the average consumption on watts per mile on the display. If it's 250 W/ mile you're getting 4 miles per kWH, if only 200 W/mile then you get 5 miles per kWH. My electric bill shows about 8 cents a kWH but it's really 16 cents after all the additional charges. So for 10 kWH I get usually get 40 miles for $1.60 driving the 55 mph speed limit or sometimes 50 miles if I'm just tooling around town like at 35-40 mph. If you drive 70 to 80 mph you're going to use more power (Watts) per mile. Same if you floor it at every light all the time. Bottom line is your probably gonna get less range than predicted, But will be enjoying your Tesla more. You have plenty of range with the Model 3 75 kWH battery anyways.

Watched you on your test ride with Dr KIA [ironic isn't it?] and later the class with him and Farzad. Nice to see you find an S after getting the 3. I think you can bring a different perspective to what you like and dislike between the two after you get enough time in the S. It is good that you see the need to know more. As to EV pricing. Elon does not run Tesla like most other car companies. He see's the dealership model as dated. IMO dealerships have demonstrated that they do not want MSRP's to drop ever on anything they sell. You can add incentives from the factory and maybe we won't add on a few grand in accessories you don't want. Elon dropped prices when his material prices came down after covid. So new and used Tesla value's tanked, bringing other new EV's down. Plus the slowing market you saw for all cars due to interest rates and over inflated market adjustments. Now we are in negative market adjustments.

My goal was to get a model S 2015 because they come with free super charging for life buttttt they have battery problems. My coworker needs a $16k battery replacement. He bought it 9 months ago. For $26k with 75k miles.... After seeing all his issues i went with a newer model 3.

There's a lot ignorance to overcome surrounding used Tesla's sold by non-Tesla dealers. Like a big deal is whether or not it has FSD. You almost never see that in the used car description. There's just a whole lot of things to learn that matter with a used Tesla that have no similar comparison in ICE cars. Tesla is so much better than any comparably priced ICE car.

Drop hasn’t been as crazy as they say. Paid almost exactly that for a salvavage ms during the pandemic pricing era for one about the same. With $1k in repairs and another 90k in miles, no retreats. Don’t buy the hertz bs. The cars for sale all where within the normal miles to sell off. Remember back during the pandemic Teslas were some of the only cars they could get. With their bankruptcy, they need the stock price price since they had to dump their ice cars to make ends meet. The whole ev excuse is a cop out to not drop the stock price now that cars are available again, and doesn’t require further charging equipment. Costs have come down with the price of batteries and scale. Added to this the price war, and incentives Tesla haven’t been able to get for years, and it’s cheaper to go new (why go used = cheaper used). Ford is getting burned by not integrating. If they decided to buy their engines and transmissions for someone else, who much would a gas f150 cost? That and lesser tech by trying to reuse their hybrid parts that are less appropriate. Once you price that a Tesla prices, you’re going to have a tough go of it for a Mach e. Not for everyone. I keep my old cars for the weekends. For your normal $3k going to be the normal 10-15 delay that they get new cars anyway. Prefer a free supercharge Tesla, a raven ms/x or lfp m3.

I would never buy the Standard Range Model 3. You will beat up the battery more for the same miles of driving. I would only buy the Model 3 Long Range (LR). Between battery degradation, extreme weather, and taking a long trip, having more battery equals more range potential. Also, I’ll bet the resale percentage is better on the LR than the mid-range or Standard Range. On a Model S, I would only consider cars that were 75 Kilowatt hour or higher, 90-100 being best.

Tesla Model Ys are so much fun to drive. Much better response and quickness than any gas car I've ever driven. Add in the Full Self Driving feature which is truly wonderful and reliable. When this feature becomes perfected the value of used Tesla's will go way up because you can make money with the car as a taxi. People who haven't tried driving one don't know what they are missing. Mine has 12,000 miles on it and the cost for electricity was about 250 dollars for the 12K miles and one year.
