the most important part would be to no longer pay the energy with that life long supercharging and or charging at home from a solar roof . complete game changer for us avoiding dirty and expensive gas stations. If you drive cross country then super chargers will be your friend too. Great car, great purchase and lots of value "gained" by taking some risks cause even if it would have been completely dead the broken PD90 would be worth more due to lifelong charging. Even tesla would swap the dead battery for about 12 000 here and you would get back another car life good for another 100.000 miles or 170.000 km where 100.000 km would cost here in a usual merecedes cruising at just 130 km / h 8 Liter x 2 $ or 1000 hkm x 16$ / hkm = 16.000 $ of cause incl. VAT Great Deal now and also in the future cause the car has already lot more value than what you had paid for and it looks to be in great shape considering now MKL on like an old Mercedes S Class would have to offer at such mileage. Good luck - from germany.

There are some screaming good deals on used EVs but it is really important to do a little homework if the sales price isn't in your "play money" budget. Every EV has at least one fan/owner's group, and their forum will tell you what kind of issues to look for when checking out a car. 8 years ago I bought my first EV, a 2011 Nissan LEAF with a weak battery. The seller let me take it to a dealer for a diagnostic test where I learned the battery was still under warranty. I bought the car for a song, had the battery replaced for free, and my cousin's kid now commutes in it every day having accumulated about 120,000 miles on it.

The Chevrolet Bolts are really cheap used right now like less than $20K for a 2022, but definitely park them outside in case the battery goes up in flames. They have battery issues and the dealers are putting on software that will detect if you need a replacement HV battery. I would not finance them for more than the length of the HV battery warranty, also. But it's a good option for a commuter if you have access to a plug where you park at residental electricty rates. They actually are pretty roomy in the front seat but if you are tall, don't expect an adult to be able to sit behind you.

My daily driver is a 2015 model S I picked up for $13k out the door. After the tax credit, under $10k. Threw some new tires and it’s good to go. Honesty blown away by how impressed I am with the car. Keep in mind they’re cheap for a reason, if the battery goes out, you’re looking at $10k to replace it. But hey, these things regularly reach 200k+ miles. Mine had 78k when I bought it and now it’s at 95k and running great. Something really cool about getting into my car every morning and it being at a “full tank”.

@@themonsterunderyourbed9408 Only if you can't do elementary math. A car with the same performance as a Tesla will have a high performance engine that requires Premium gas, and gets 20 Mpg on a good day. The EV battery warranty on a Model S like the 2015 has a 8 year unlimited mile warranty, and will easily last 15 years. But lets say it fails after 12 years and you drive 20k miles a year. That is 240,000 miles, 12,000 gallons of Premium Gas, at $4.20 a gallon, or $50,400 worth of fuel. Meanwhile, unlimited Supercharging on the 2015 Model S is free, and charging it at home will cost you around 5 cents per mile. Even if you drove it while charging it 100% of the time at home, your total electricity cost would be $12,000, or $38,000 less. So no, even if the battery failed, and even if you bought a brand new one for $20,000 instead of rebuilding it for $5,000, you would still be way ahead...

Enjoyed watching your video. I bought a 2015 S85D from Tesla in April 2019. Paid $45K. The car had 12,004 miles and it came with the same warranty as a new car, 4 years or 50,000 miles, and free lifetime supercharging! About a month ago had to replace the lower front end. I’m not a mechanic so had it towed to the Tesla service center. It was $1,800. It’s the first expense I had since I got the car. Love my car.

I have a Tesla Model 3 for the last 8 months now. All I can say is that it’s the best car I’ve ever have, but EVs are not for everyone. First, you always have to plan your trips, if you’re planning to hit the road for a long drive over 200 miles for example. Charging - if you own a home or live in a place where you can charge it while parked, fantastic. Otherwise, it’ll make no sense to buy one. What makes more attractive to buy an EV, it’s the ability to charge it with solar, so almost no cost for charging and since there are almost no moving parts, maintenance cost it’s a fraction of a conventional car. My recommendation, if you’re planning to buy an EV, DO NOT BUY it if the range less than 250 miles with fully charged batteries. Also, calculate how many miles you travel on a weekly basis. This should determine the range per charge you need to make it a good return of investment.

It has been flawless and I commute to work and back everyday for next to nothing. It charges in the wall with a 12v and it slowly charges to your next set departure time to protect battery life, it will also charge off peak so your using the electricity when it is the cheapest. I would not an ev as my only car but it has been to experience something new. Only thing I have replaced has been front struts, heated seat element, and a parking sensor all of which I bought and replaced myself. After watching your videos I bought a 23 VW ID.4 Pro S AWD with 961 miles for $29,325 USD on 3/30/24. It has a Branded Lemon Title so I did some homework. First I called VW, company not dealership, to find out why they bought it back. They told me it was a door lock issue which was fixed by a software update not available at the time it was designated as a Lemon. VW also said they would honor all existing warranties on the car. Not so with some other manufacturers I spoke to about their used vehicles with branded titles. Just to see what the used car dealership would say I asked them what the problem was with the car. They verified what VW told me so I felt they were an honest place to do business. I took the car to a local VW dealership for a thorough pre-purchase inspection during which they updated the software. The tech told me the car had absolutely no problems. 3000 miles later the car has given us zero problems and is a pleasure to drive. There are many fantastic deals on used EVs just do your homework. BTW the tax credit is available only to those that haven't gotten a tax credit on an EV in the past three years.

I also don't have any problem finding a place to refuel when I go on trips. I also don't lose a quarter or a half of my range on a full tank in the winter. If my car gets hit, it will cost a lot less than a Tesla to repair, especially since insurance companies don't want the liability to repair the car when there might be damage to the battery or battery container, so they just total the car. There are a number of videos about that here on KZbin. I also don't have to look at the large screen to do ANYTHING in the car while taking my eyes off the road (mine doesn't have one). Texting on a phone while driving is dangerous. So is changing the screen to another screen, touching a PICTURE of a button, just the right button, to get to yet another screen, to then find another specific picture of a button to touch to bring up the choices for what you want to......never mind. @@jeremybrown6894 Again, that is incorrect. The EV tire issue is extremely misleading. Let's put this in reality. If you purchase tires that have a 40k mile lifespan, on an EV, you will want to change them out probably between 38-42k. If you are in an ice car, you will want to change them out between 40 to 42k. There are special EV tires that you can get. Do you know what makes them EV tires? They have sound supression foam in them. Why? Because prior to EV's the tires didn't have to worry that much about road noise because the engine noise killed it. They may also have a profile to help with range. How much more are tires with foam in them? With the range? Well, I just checked Discount tire and for (4) Birdgestone Turanza EV 255/45 R19 104W XL BSW it is $1240. That would be for a 2023 Model Y. The comparable BMW would be the M3. The Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport AS, the OEM tire, is $1360. The estimate is that they will last about 3k miles more. Tires are simple to understand. The amount of miles they last is directly related to how heavy your foot is, as well as where you drive. EVs tend to get 95-98% of the range of comparable model ICE cars. That has to do with the weight and torque.

Sam I had one in Rural Australia for 4 days after dropping a buddy off at the airport and drove the wheels off it, Bit over 200 miles to and from the airport and with regen braking and plotting where the charge stations were just in case it was a cruisy ride. Plugged in the slow charger overnight and had 100 ish miles to play with the next day and apart from some range angst when I went to pick him up 4 days later I enjoyed my time with the thing. I think you have to experience the engineering first hand and although im not planning on buying one used or new im now more open to the idea, Until then? My A32 Maxima or Series 1 300TD Disco will do :-)

Humm, that is a good question. The used ev tax credit according to the IRS but be given by dealers and pre-registered via the website. The bill does not state if an auction is classified as a dealer. For 2024 in order for the credit to be given the dealer needs to create an account that registers the dealer...once done..the vin is submitted and the irs will clear the car for the used credit UP TO 4,000. As you paided only 10k I would guess...if you can get qualified after the fact, it will be less than 4,000. Again, the used ev credit is stated to be given at the point sale and if not given you can not get it later. It works differently vs new car ev credits.

It's all in how you maintain the car. Our Y has been to the dealership once to get the HV Battery replaced under warranty, got a Y loaner. Cost to us $0. I've replaced 2 of the tires on the Y in the 3 years of ownership, that's it for cost of ownership. A RT from ATL to Miami and back is under $120 in charging costs.

Because the reason a ceramic coating can cost over $1,000 dollars is because of the man hours that goes into prepping the car before laying ceramic. If you just washed and dried the car and laid down your "ceramic", you're completely misleading people about what a proper ceramic coating is and shitting on an idustry of people that do it the right way while pushing a product that should not be applied without proper preperation to account for proper bonding and longevity.

It's seems like there's a rainfall of older teslas for very low price. I've seen running ones for $10-15k and the only issue is it has got worn out battery and high mileage, but the thing is a lot of people can get away with as little as 100 miles of range which is usually like 1/3rd-1/5th of original range.
@barttemolder3405
@barttemolder3405 6 ай бұрын
Tesla batteries generally deteriorate to 90-80% when they get old but no further. That's because they have lots of small cells in parallel (47 typically), and when one of those fails it blows its fuse and the range drops by 2% for that tranche of cells. Even old packs have less than 0.5% cell failure so the chance that 5 or more cells in the same tranche fail is quite slim. Tesla replaces the batteries when the range drops below 70%, and that does not happen very often. Other EV manufacturers use bigger cells, but the cells fail when a dendrite forms and shorts the cathode and anode; a big cell has more chance of that than a small cell (because it has more substrate where dendrites can form) and when it does it has a bigger impact on the performance. Tesla's many cells are more costly to produce but much more resilient.

I forget the model number, but if anyone wants it, I fetch up the number for you pronto. The only thing I don't like is that the micro filter needs to dry after you clean it. It filters the smallest dirt particles and therefore gets dirty. I wash mine with a sink sprayer and let it dry for the next day. It also is easy to charge and the battery weighs a ton. Get one. Sam....save yourself some headache and service that sunroof immediately. Anyone considering an older used Model S should know a few things. Drive units fail often. The design is flawed. They run coolant through the unit, and the coolant seals go bad quite often. Coolant floods the units, and they must be replaced. They released an updated drive unit that bypasses the coolant through the units in November 2023. It's about an $8k job, parts and labor, and it's WHEN not IF on the failure. Bigger issue on the RWD cars than the AWD cars. The fuse Sam replaced is another known issue, and it's about time....nothing else. They must ALL be replaced around the 10 year mark. Parking brakes are another known issue. The early sunroofs are another known issue. If you pick one up and the roof is still working, service it IMMEDIATELY and then do it yearly. I just sold my 2014 Model S last week and know them all too well! I sold my green with tan interior MS 60 with 130k miles on it for $17k. A working P90D for under $11k is indeed a steal.

There also is a memory write issue that will cause the central screen to fail. This happened in my early 2014 Model S. Tesla did repair this under an extension to the warranty. Pre September 2014 Model s did not have the hardware for semi-autonomous driving. Your 2015 Model S has a retestable sunroof which newer Model S cars have swapped for a fixed glass roof. There’s nothing green about an EV how they’re made how they’re charged. just look at dealerships why do you think they sit on EV so long and also why do you think that a lot of them ever stop selling them? So anybody who wants to say EV’s are good didn’t their research hate to burst anybody bubble but combustion engine cars are here to stay for a long time. They’re more green than EV and that has been proven. MIC DROP😎💪🇺🇸

Robertson screws are good until the screw has to be accessed at even a slight angle, then they are useless. Phillips, on the other hand, can be loosened or tightened at an angle.

Nice find, but you never own a Tesla 100%. They can turn it off remotely whenever they want...same as how they gave you access to it.

That is so scary. The government could use this in the future to disable the car if any traffic violation is sensed. I don’t relish the idea of not having complete control of my expensive purchase.

I’m so glad they fixed the ownership transferral. I bought my 22’ MYLR a while back and all I had to do was change the name of the car to 3 random letters that popped up on the app, then it synced straight to my phone.

You got a great deal. The simple 12v starter battery can shut the entire car. Next the main pack might need a boost. There is a 12v battery connector right in the front driver side bumper.

The reason for the bolt hitting into the battery is for instance if the bolt fell off for some reason the bolt can’t work its way out it’ll permanently be held in even without a nut

Ev makes so much sense for someone who drives a lot. I am also waiting for my used EV deal. I’d go with something lower end and cheaper to repair.

Awesome video! I want a used S for my second Tesla. FYI, the prices you showed for used Model S's include the $4k credit already baked in. So if you see one for $13k, the actual cost is $17k. You don't get $4k off the $13k price. Anyway, well done and congratulations! You did REAL good.

Just yesterday I had that fuse replaced at no cost to me. 2016 MS. Not sure why no charge, but tech did say the fuse was now not charged by the battery. It’s purpose is to shut the battery power off if in a catastrophic accident

The power-train is warrantied for 8 years or some mileage, I believe. So you were probably lucky it went now and not next year.

Purchased my 2015 P85D 4 years ago 55k miles at time of purchase 250k miles on it now Rear motor replaced twice under warranty Everything else out of my pocket 2 x door handles 2 x 12v batt 2 x rear suspension 1 x front control arms 1 x valves that connect to battery coolant 1 x antenna which is under back window that had to be replaced as well. 1 x upgrade from 3G - 4G Lots of tire changing I’m sure I spent 10-14k in repairs with Tesla Last time control arms had to be changed I went to personal mechanic he did it for far less Wheel alignments I don’t do with Tesla any more they are 2x anywhere else . But I plan on keep car I love it and still have free supercharging. I drive to much to drive anything else lol 😂

My 2015 P85D has done 276k km now, and so far saved me a factor of 10 on gas compared to my old car, even counting in the 10k $ i put into it in repairs over time. Probably fit it with a new 90kWh battery if it dies, but we have taxis around here that have done double the mileage on the original battery.

In the world of lithium batteries, the greatest killers to them are: deep discharge states, high recharge cycle count, always charging to 100%, and age. I imagine Tesla's computer system has LVP (low voltage protection) to guard against deep discharge, and employs trickle charge before reaching 100% to reduce wear... but age is still a factor. Battery packs have modular battery clusters, and sometimes one cell in a cluster can go bad. Doing that module is of course far cheaper than the entire pack.

I would change the side skirt, correct me if I'm wrong but I think the battery vents are located there and it is not good to get dirt on them because then they can leak water into the battery.
