I just came across this video today. I’ve been looking at both sides of minimalism. I realize that I went absolutely crazy decluttering and I started having immense regret about what I was getting rid of. It’s really easy to compare your minimalist journey to others and it caused me to feel like I wasn’t getting rid of enough. Thank you for speaking on this.

I fell (and sometimes still fall) into those same problems! My husband has to remind me sometimes that we don’t have to give up quality to save a dollar. I used to be suuuper strict with our budget it started driving me crazy! Thanks for your honesty ♥️

Yep, I've been right there with you! My husband frequently has done the same with me haha. I'm happy you could relate and wish you luck on continuing to find your "middle ground!"

This video actually brought a tear to my eye, I appreciate your honesty and willingness to talk about this. I struggle with finding balance but that’s my ultimate goal, and I think that’s what brings allot of of us to seek out minimalism.

Well don't say that because I'll start tearing up haha! I so appreciate this comment and just knowing one other person can relate to this makes all the vulnerability worth it. I hope you find your balance, your middle ground, Jude! You got this!

Thank you for this video :) having too much is one side of the fence and being obsessed with getting rid of almost everything and counting items it’s falling on the other side of the fence.. I thing having what we need and use having just enough is a good balance to keep things tidy and comfy :)

Hi Hanna! Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sure it will definitely help someone. I believe minimalism is whatever someone wants to make it. For example, what I’d consider minimal, you’d consider it to be excessive but that’s the beauty in it, there are no rules, it just needs to be less than what you originally had. I could never have a fixed number of clothing but don’t need an entire closet filled either. I’m also embracing the super slow transition for me, because I’d like to use what I have, get rid of what I don’t enjoy, while still being a good steward to this earth. Most minimalists have their basic colors of white, grey and black, but grey and black are such Debbie downers for me, and to do something like this, I want to incorporate color that sparks joy in my soul. Hopefully, people who want to embrace this lifestyle will understand that it’s unique to them and that these are just examples and not hard fast rules. All my best to you!!

Milica, what a wonderful representation of minimalism. I couldn't agree with you more. It's such an individual process and what works for some will not work for others. Plus, everyone just simply has different tastes and interests. Having or consuming less and being more conscientious is such a great goal and I'm genuinely so proud of you for finding your own journey. It's incredible and your balanced approach will very likely lead you to skip over the mistakes I made at the beginning.

I appreciate you talking about your experience. There are so many different takes on minimalism and so many approaches, and it doesn't all work for everybody. Minimalism for me is just being mindful and not purchasing excess product, really thinking about whether something will add value - inventory will stress me out, but not money spent, to a degree (I also opt for higher quality items). But I don't turn away gifts or freebies, for example. I found a fair few communities in the past that were so strict with minimalism, one would even feel guilty about owning more than one instance of an item. It got to a point where I was excessively decluttering and wasting money by throwing away useable dupe and backups, and stressing for NO REASON. It's important to recognize that minimalism is a spectrum, and where you fit on it differs from person to person. But switching one extreme for another is just not healthy.
@HannaMicheleRoss2 жыл бұрын
Ah! I totally get that. I definitely went a little too extreme at first and am now reeling everything back and finding my *spot*, as it were, along that minimalism spectrum you talked about. Everything in life is a balancing act and minimalism is no different. It sounds like you are doing amazing with your approach! Kudos to you!

Thank you so much for your honest! And honestly, I watched your video when I was getting myself ready for the minimalism life by getting rid of lots of clothes items that a ''fashion slave'' like me has owned. But somehow, I was having a doubt if it's the right decision to follow this lifestyle, Idk, somehow I feel like my life will have less motivation to self-development and as if I will be running away from the world. I asked myself if there was any negative side with this? Thanks god for a very useful video right at this moment! I can't agree more with what you said. Thank you!❤️❤️❤️

You're so welcome. There is a negative side to everything. That being said, of course, it's within your power to make minimalism into whatever you want it to be...it can be overwhelming positive too :)

A few of the people that I have followed for inspiration on my journey end up backing out and leaving minimalism. It brings so many doubts and questions if minimalism is even real, or just a short term thing. They all seem so happy and content as a minimalist and then they come up with videos of regret, or the truth behind it, etc etc.
@HannaMicheleRoss2 жыл бұрын
I think that being we are all human, minimalism can bring up a whole host of emotions, both negative and positive. This video is certainly not me giving up on minimalism; it is about finally finding the balance and freedom that minimalism can bring. BUT it was a long journey, and I understand how things could go wrong. So sticking to what feels right for you, and remaining intentional about your consumer habits is a great jumping off place, rather than looking at it as a trend or only having a certain number of items. Hope that helps shed light on my perspective!
@Simplyluvly2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, sometimes I don't know exactly what you minimalist guys said about minimalist. Maybe because I live in third world country and my family was not rich. I just imagine you as a minimalist used to be spend much money, having many clothes and other things, right? Meanwhile, we here have to work hard just to eat :(
@HannaMicheleRoss2 жыл бұрын
That's not quite the experience I had at all but it might be for others! I think the goal is just to live intentionally, live simply, and devote what resources you do have to what's important in your life. Thanks for your comment! Always great to hear another perspective.
@BarbaraSwartz-hj2ub5 ай бұрын
Yea! I don't see value in not being able to have at least one or two extra items for things in your home or what you wear. If you are constantly using the item.
