Edit: Hi, this is one of my older videos from when my narration and audio editing abilities were admittedly a bit lacking, but where I felt I began to hit my stride in regards to editing and presentation. Captions have been added for you to follow along with my rambling self more easily. I've also added citations and details on all artists and their artwork that appeared in this video in the description box above. ‎ A minor correction, but in this video I say the "Mayans of South America," when I instead meant to refer to Central America. Apologies! ‎ __

So so cool! I'm studying anthropology and it is impressive how art can serve as a tool for understanding humanity across time and space. As "empty" as an artwork may seem (i.e. Mark Rothko--with all due respect), a message is being filtered out about the focus and thinking of humanity at the time! Thank you for your efforts in putting this treasure together and I look forward for more (subscribed)!

Rothko is the kind of art you have to see in person, a picture doesn't convey anything. I was also sceptic about it but once I saw a piece in real life it was breathtaking.

Great video, I think it was worth redoing to talk more about art all around the world. It's a really good overview of art history and how what 'art' is has changed. Will this still be part of a series? It would be interesting to maybe look at contemporary art like the Turner Prize or the more avant garde movements throughout the 20th century (like Dada that you briefly mentioned here). And nice microphone! Which one is it?
@LaVolpeWhy
@LaVolpeWhy 6 жыл бұрын
I already had a few drafts written up discussing art in specific sections of the world in detail, but had opted to refine parts of those drafts and include them as segments for this video. You and I both know the complexity of contemporary art, so that'll still be its own video since there's just so much to discuss within it from the last 80 years alone! My foray into discussing art will definitely continue in the near future, though I'll continue to visualise more of my other thoughts for now since I've already got quite a few scripts at the ready and videos in production. As for the mic, I opted for a Philips DVT2510 Dictaphone (its not much, but better than recording audio using my phone) and just fiddled around with compressors in Premiere. Sound has always been my weakest aspect when it comes to creating videos, so I'm glad things are starting to sound clearer!
@WhatsSoGreatAboutThat
@WhatsSoGreatAboutThat 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree! And I think you defiantly need a break from art to explore other ideas given the amount of time this must have taken, haha. Oh wow, a dictaphone! Well it sounds great. :D

Art is any means of expression, so today I think film, animation, music, fashion, paint, photography, sculpture, drawing, and more are forms of art. However, I really think in today’s age the most meaningful and powerful movements are within music, fashion, film, photography. I believe sculpture and painting in the technological age isn’t most representative of what it means to be an artist today. Those practices have been deeply explored and don’t provide creation as wide ranging as the others mentioned. There’s so much to expand upon in what I’ve mentioned and it’s clear they are more impactful on people today.

A nice sight-seeing tour of art across the ages, thank you. A sociological rather than philosophical account indeed as you say. Stressing art in the Church as a way of pushing an ideology is a very Post-modern sceptical attitude. In fact as mentioned in Kenneth Clarke's 'Civilisation' art was promoted in the Church for its ability to raise the mind to feelings of awe and wonder- to the spiritual. Adding this would give a fairer account of Christian art in our history.
@viciadoemhalo3
@viciadoemhalo3 3 жыл бұрын
It is funny that he is reducing christian art to a form of propaganda or manipulation of the masses while in that age there were never even psychological studies to begin with and they would never dream with the knowledge of mental triggers, pavlovian conditioning and any other form of psychological manipulation, something which has widespread use nowadays by the mainstream media, the education system, marketing, ideological propaganda. We live in the real times when art is made to push ideologies and to manipulate the behavior of people and there are very sophisticated techniques for that. Even soda bottles are designed to have the shapes of womanly curves all in order to provoke lowly desires and inducing you to buy more and have more cravings. Even the colors are there to manipulate you, being generally red, yellow or orange, the colors of ripe fruits.
