In that light, him being kept around could also be seen as a sign of a smart employer, because many higher-ups nowadays don't want to hear criticism and will fire employees or threaten you otherwise for levying it against them. I really hated how everything Mark said and wanted basically boiled down to making the game excessively more "epic" or "awesome", failing to realise that the simplicity was what kept people engaged. @cool-lemon3 ай бұрын
@@hyvenia6157 He wanted RuneScape to be more like World of Warcraft. Failing to realise that the reason why RuneScape was successful around that period was due to the simplicity of it all. Take a look at RS3 now. People were happy that last month had an average of 20k+ players online for the first time since Necromancy released. It's a sad state of a game, spearheaded by people who have long forgotten the reason why RuneScape was so popular. Now look at OSRS. 130k+ online right now. Yeah, people can say there are a lot of bots. But just look at how well it performs online on KZbin and Twitch. It's a massively popular game, because it's simple. Sweaty methods are there, but it's less than 1% of the playerbase actually participating in said methods. Nobody, and I really mean nobody (well, aside from Mod Mark and his goons) wanted RuneScape to become World of Warcraft lite. We're 10+ years on from OSRS releasing, and just look at how well that turned out for the game. OSRS is getting REAL content updates on the regular. Whereas RS3 contents are whatever the latest TH event is and a new boss every 5 months. Love to see somebody as clueless as Mod Mark be proven massively wrong.

Very happy to see you point how Jagex changed their own rules during Squeal of Fortune. Its a small detail that is often overlooked when people talk about this, but its so important to showing how Jagex worked at that time. For me, this was the big update that made me feel Runescape was dead. Adding in microtransactions and changing their rules quietly, made it feel like could change whatever they wanted and they weren't going to be open about it to the players. It created this feeling of separation that Jagex typically didn't have. At least not for monetary things which could affect the game so drastically.

Really miss some of the content that didn't make it because of the 2007 cut. Things like Stealing Creations was one of the best minigames they ever made, Fist of Guthix that came to shape an entire new F2P meta both for gear and skilling, and the few balanced aspects of Summoning was a nice spin on the common MMO follower system. I remember when I first tried OSRS in 2017 going to where Fist of Guthix was in the wilderness to go train up magic, only to find that it and some of the better content from 2008-2011 didn't make it into the game.

It killed off most in world trading, absolutely nuked the industries that were operating on the Forums for Trade. There was literally a trading floor going off in the forums, you’d have to bump your thread every 5/10 mins that’s how busy it was. Buying BS at 100gp ea spinning like 10k of em, PAYING PEOPLE to do so in gp and then selling them for 150-170 ea depending on when the US servers woke up. Sometimes you’d have someone desparate for a sale who would offer 180gp each and you bit that guys arm off, you dropped what you were doing and sold all you had regardless of where you are in your processing.

This was a really well put together video and an absolute blast from the past. I remember all of it, and I was among the group that left when Eoc hit and came right back day 1 of oldschool. I still leave the game for extended periods of time but I always come back. Runescape has been as nostalgic as halo for me if not more. Hearing some of the older world soundtracks sometimes is enough to draw me back in. Truly a masterpiece of a game.

Mod Mark single hand DESTROYED runescape and he is still working for them today. Please I beg you f****** fire the guy. CMMON. Jagex was just bought! and they are now hopefully taking down all microtransactions in RS3, this is AMAZING. Runescape is releasing content and is back alive. We have to fire all people related to RS2.

I've played RuneScape for 19 years. I'm still on RS3, but I voted for 07, I constantly watch 07 content and just started a GIM on 07. I'll never stop singing the praises of OSRS, it is a game ran the correct way. I wish us in RS3 got the same treatment.

Love the video! Really good idea since it seems like the story of Runescape has a perfect three-act structure ending in redemption - hope you carry on with these kinds of videos! 😃

I remember having a slightly different issue with EoC (I played the Beta extensively). While the combat system changes themselves were fine and I was open to them, the one thing I really didn't like what the total overhaul of gear and level requirements that they did at the same time. Runescape had (and OSRS has) a fairly unique system of combat stat customization and gearing that allowed for a lot of mix-maxing and custom-fit stat builds to unique gear and abilities. It's the only MMO I can think of where being a really strong level 50 in a game with a level cap of 130 was fun, rewarding, useful, and impressive. It's a game where gear progression is a sloppy mess of many things with many different requirements and specific advantages instead of a progression path or a curve from worse to better. Well, EoC homogenized a lot of things about it, and killed a lot of unique builds. Some of these changes I even thought made sense. Scaling up the basic metal armors and adjusting crafting requirements to be more valuable and useful relative to how difficult they actually are to make, made sense. (smithing level 99 to make a level 40 chestplate is insane, and no one in their right mind would ever smith these items for cash) What didn't make sense was changing the uniquely low defense requirements of ranger (archer) armor that a bunch of people spent many hours gearing their characters around, or any of the other niche gear requirement shenanigans they engaged in. At least when Rune got bumped up from 40 to 50 defence, people with 40 just wore the newly increased Adamant that had the same requirements and function. Rangers who left defense at 1 or capped it at 40 to use partial or full sets of dragonhide were just screwed over on their builds literally overnight.

Smithing a runeplatebody at 99 wasn't insane if you go back to the origin of runescape. Back in classic you couldn't buy armour in shops so if you wanted anything better than full iron you had to go to a smith and have him make it for you. I think I remember bluerose being the person with the highest smithing level and at the time she had the reqs to make adamant square shields which back then was the absolute BIS shield ingame and literally everyone wanted to buy it. I believe people were offering mills for it back then it was quite insane. This was also during the time when rune armour didn't exist yet, so adamant was the absolute bis endgame gear. Anyhow thats the reason why nowadays low level armours have such high smith reqs today. Its due to the fact that back in the day they used to be BIS and there was only one smith who could make them it took a few more months until others caught up.

@@itsme12305it wasn't insane in classic, but by the time of near combat overhaul it was insane, and even to this day osrs needs an osrs-fied Mining and Smithing rework

I fell into a really awkward position when the EOC scism came about. My "golden age" of playing Runescape was 2010, before EOC, but after a lot of other players' nostalgic vision of the game. I remember grinding Fist of Guthix for the spiky berserker shields. I remember really liking the new HD models and animations, while others didn't. I remember loving the new Dungeoneering skill, while a lot of others disliked it. When EOC did come out, I wasn't too happy with it. I felt it was too much of a change. But when 2007scape came back, I didn't like that either because it was before my time. I was stuck between two games I loved and forced to pick a side. I still play RS3 now. I love the world and story, I love the combat system, I love the new content and skills. But I absolutely hate the prevelance of microtransactions souring it all.

I was only 13 when this re vote came around and I think I heard glimpses of the game. I wish I had the chance to experience all these memories everyone has. But I got to experience and create memories starting this last year. I think I have about 4-5 months played and over this time has been amazing. Im currently running two accounts 1 on leagues. I am having a blast and I hope this game never dies.

In all fairness, I don't understand the hate of RS3, and I play both OSRS and RS3, as well has having played Runescape since 2000 when it was a Java client with 2D cutouts walking around. The only beef I have with RS3 is the MTX, though playing Ironman I don't notice any difference between OSRS and RS3 in terms of the core mechanics that I like about Runescape, being the grinding out of skills. Main reason for Ironman is that shait called the Grand Exchange, honestly, a lot of videos I see of OSRS is mainly someone buying the top gear and everything they need and stand in the G.E doing their skill levelling. This is why Ironman is preferable in both RS3 and OSRS. Sure you can blame EOC being "dull" but honestly, most of the times in OSRS the combat consist of standing in 1 spot with your prayer, it's not exactly the most engaging system out there. All in all, both versions work for me at least. I play what ever I feel like playing there and then and don't see one being neither superior nor inferior to the other
@nexpersonal50664 ай бұрын
It's a mix of bitterness and parroting, specially since a lot of people tried the 1.0 version of EoC that was REALLY shit, but never tried the modern one. You can see with a lot of OSRS content creators that try Rs3, almost all of them enjoy the game, but later quit because of the one true problem with Rs3, lack of a decent flow of good new content

I'm one of the many who quit when EOC came out. Runescape is special and unique the way it is. Changing it to mold it into just another ordinary MMO ruins it. So glad Old School became a thing and is thriving to this day. I truly believe if it wasn't for Old School, Runescape would just be a nostalgic memory of a forgotten game right now.
