You are spot on with this Tessie. I have two college degrees and I never had student loans. Thank goodness!! There are so many people in deepntrouble because of these loans and their inability to pay them back. It is deeper than you realize as many people were admitted into "colleges" and took out these loans when it was never a good fit for them. What a mess.

KZbin income is ad-dependent. When people stop spending, advertisers cut their advertising budgets. I've lived through this in both the print journalism industry and the web-publishing industry. Hard times mean advertisers either quit advertising altogether or greatly curtail what they're willing to pay for ads. On most online platforms, advertisers bid for what they're willing to pay for ads. So a click that may generate $0.50 or more in good times might generate only $0.02 or $0.03 in bad times. Less consumer spending=less advertising=less income for content creators dependent on ad revenue.

Tessie, it’s not just student loan repayment obligations that are causing people to not spend money. All year long, economic gurus have been saying this was coming because of the economy AS A WHOLE is crashing. Housing prices are bottoming out, banks are tightening their lending practices, several banks have crashed already and there are several in REAL trouble now. Jamie Dimon complained a couple of weeks ago about being required by the Fed to increase Citibank reserves by 2%. (Which is their fund against financial difficulties) inflation has gone up way more than the government is saying because they don’t use basics of food or gasoline hen calculating it! But look at the price of those. It’s NOT student loan repayment (which EVERYONE who signed a promissory note should be required to repay) It’s the economy as a whole.

And mom and dad is going to make them a new quilt (i was given a decent amount of fabric samples), we also make our own laundry soap to thanks to your videos. Were looking at getting a 100watt solar panel to charge our camper trailer battery(we live in) and runs our lights, water pump, and start for one of our heaters, and our stove) so if we have to go without electricity we could still function. We've cut our food budget twice and about to be a third time. Were looking at maybe $400 for 7 people for month. Three meals a day. Especially since we also homeschool. Times are only getting worse. A loan is a loan. So if people were smart, you used that deferment time to pay down their student loan balance. My son paid off the $65k from his masters in the last 3 years because no interest was accrued during the deferment, and everything you paid went towards the balance. He didn't take out any loans for his PhD, he spread it out. GTA'd and did research for professors to pay for his schooling. I have a Grand daughter that is a Sophomore doing the same thing, she was paid a hefty stipend to help with a research project this summer. She is on a full academic ride including year round housing. There are ways to go without taking out loans, but you have to be willing to work hard. What happened to you wasn't trickle down economics, KZbin changed the way they pay creators and it hit almost everyone, more hoops to jump through and more censorship so they can demonetize your videos for stupid reasons. We are a small business that has been around for 25 years and we have never been busier.. But... we carry no debt and live under our means.

I do think that it was not a good move to pass laws that made it impossible to include student loan debt when a person applies for bankruptcy. As it is now a borrower can still be repaying student loans in their 70s and beyond because the bankers can take your Social Security money to pay them off if the borrower doesn't. Punishing someone for a whole lifetime for a bad decision in their youth just doesn't seem right.

I was grateful for the break on our student loans. I know we have to pay them back, but that break gave my husband a chance to get his foot in the door to his new law career, and start saving money for a house. The sad thing is my husband learned more on the job than he did with that stupid school loan and degree. Why are student loans costing as much as a down payment for a house? It’s a scam.

If they took out the Loan regardless of what kind of a loan it is they 100% should have to pay it back PERIOD. Having said that, i also think it is more the ECONOMY and supply chain break down, stupid policies etc.... All of us are not able to do the things we may of been doing a few years ago. We that have prepped are using our preps more now than before...less trips to the stores. We are all doing without a lot of things that we once enjoyed. We all should be cutting back...less/no vacations, reusing things, less luxuries, frugal cooking etc... I say this is one of many reasons we should be very careful how we cast our VOTES. We are ALL paying the price for careless, uninformed votes.

That is quite a subject! Back in the day when I was a student, everthing was paid by the government, so after I was done with it.. zero debt, A few years after that the government thought it was a good idea to introduce the loan system, well... A lot of students didn't want to end with a debt, so the took the 'blue jobs' instead of getting in debt. So a couple of years ago they went back to a system that is more like from my younger years. At the end it is way more smarter for the government to give young people a chance for higher education, because of the taxes they are paying because of a higher income. Not everyone is spending their whole salary, but there are plenty of people who do. And if they receive a salary of 1500 bucks or 3000 (or higher) a month, I guess the government had their money back in no time.
@dawncurtis583 Жыл бұрын
I’m sorry but it doesn’t work that way anymore. People are owing hundreds of dollars on their loans each month and there are some that will enter retirement still owing student loans. It would have been close for us if we hadn’t gone the drastic route of selling our house and using the profits to pay off the loans. My husband works for the financial aid department of a college and talks about how bad it’s going to get when loans start back up.
@xXTheoLinuxXx Жыл бұрын
@@dawncurtis583 we (in the Netherlands) are moving back to the old system (a kind off), because it was a better system. People who are well educated (without debts) are making more money, so our government see it more like an investment, at a longer road it is would pay easily off. They have better jobs, spending more money etc etc.

When did the government pay for college?
@kesmarn Жыл бұрын
From what i read, virtually anyone can go to college in Germany for free (even Americans!) even now. I think that Germany's citizens feel that an educated population is better than denying people an education solely on the basis of inability to pay. Just as it's true that not everyone is meant to go to college, it's true that not everyone is meant to be a plumber.
@kesmarn Жыл бұрын
@@justme321 There was a time when you could go to a State University for free, or very close to it. Some people got degrees from places like Berkeley for virtually zero cost. I lived in Ohio and you could go to the Ohio State University for about $600/year. You could *easily* "work your way through school" back then even with a part-time restaurant job. So people who criticize younger people for being "too lazy" to pay for their own schooling now don't seem to know that in 1970 the financial picture was completely different. State universities got a lot of assistance from the federal government to keep universities going back then. But when the federal government withdrew their help (for a lot of different reasons), the state politicians didn't want to raise any taxes (and lose votes) so they decided to offload the shortfall onto the students and their parents. That was the beginning of the end. $40K per year for college doesn't begin to compare with $600, needless to say.

I don't think it is just the school debt that is the problem. Locally here we "C" started and they made the rent rule a lot of people stopped paying and started spending their rent money on what they wanted instead of rent. When that lifted they owed all their back rent immediately and many became homeless. We have many encampments for homeless in our area because of this. Village of hope, camp hope. I think when they put a hold on student loans people started spending their payments on "other things" Things that we not normally in their budget and now they have to tighten the budget again.

I remember paying back my student loans, a long time ago. I never even got my degree. I had 3 kids to support and couldn't find a way to go to classes, work full time and be a parent. I didn't have a support system to help me out. It truly sucked paying those student loans back. Especially when I had nothing to show for it. I eventually got it all paid off though. It was my debt and I was responsible for it. I never tried to put my responsibilities off on others. If the people with student loans get a degree they should make enough money to pay their loans back without too much problem. I managed to do it while supporting a family and not earning much more than minimum wage.

Student loans are one of the biggest financial scams in America. They aren't explained properly to an 18 yr old kid. Most just did it because they were pushed to the college track. That being said, I got a break in 2020 but Mine started up again in March 2022. It's ok...just a challenge to make the payment every month. Their claim of "only 50 a month" barely touched the interest at 18%. If I knew at 18 what I know now...🤷♀️ I warned my kids though. So I guess that's the upside.
@mj-hk6iv Жыл бұрын
@crazygardener4896 many young people do not understand compound interest. That with large loan most of they payment will be going to interest. I strongly suggested to several young people to pay while they stopped the interest that way they would only be paying on principal. But they were brainwashed that their loans would be forgiven. Economics was taught when I went to school as well as budgeting. Unfortunately these classes have gone the way of shop and automotive repair. Be kind to these kids who were led to believe a college education guaranteed them a good job. They have to pay it back but it's a hard lesson.
@AusbandHolistic Жыл бұрын
@@mj-hk6ivYou are absolutely correct. Then combine the fact that the colleges are not keeping up with changes in the industries (particularly medical and tech) so upon graduation, everything is already antiquated and they can't get jobs in their fields. I feel so bad for our younger generations and ours. I wasn't taught about finance and loans in school, how to complete tax forms...I tried to teach my kids at home because school didn't teach it either.

What we should be doing is sueing these pathetic over-priced Colleges handing out diplomas for careers that can't even pay back their over-priced student loans! If a person chooses to get a degree from a 4-year University then make sure your future job is going to pay you enough to pay your own loans back! No one else is obligated to pay someone else's worthless over-priced loans. Go to TRADE SCHOOL! You'll make just as much money in the long run. Tessie, you are right on the money ( no pun intended.). Things are going to get much worse. People are not spending money like they used to. I know I'm not because I can SEE the handwriting on the wall. More people are going to be forced into making drastic changes to their spending habits. I'm very thankful you've been able to get some things done and acquired that you wanted. Great video! A person who takes out more loans than they can pay back has to take some responsibility for that. I recently saw a woman featured on a news segment who has a position as a Superintendent of schools or a principal, making over 100,000 per year say she would not pay her $700. a month's payment for the loans that got her 3 degrees because it was too much - even though she also has a working spouse. She HAS been working. She COULD have been paying down the principle, but is one of many who hope all student loans will just be forgiven. This is amoral. How is it not a form of theft?

I took advantage of the no interest period to pay off my student loan. I knew what I was getting into with the loan but needed to finish the degree - I had to do a 1-year full-time residency and couldn't work full-time. What I didn't know is that interest compounds DAILY on federal student loans. At $8 per day with a $275 minimum, I was paying less that $35 per month on the actual loan. This means it can take decades to pay it down at the minimum. Unfortunately few took advantage of the 3 years of no interest. It was a huge oppprtunity to pay down or pay off those loans. I put everything into my debts and am now debt free in my 40s.
