Minecraft combat is one of its most loved and controversial elements. Present in the game since minecraft alpha in 2010, it has evolved significantly over the year into the pvp we see now. But 1.8 pvp and 1.9 pvp are very different, and pvp has evolved so much that it is unrecognisable from its original form. So what happened?

As far as I love the older versions of Minecraft, and the old ways of doing things in the game... nah, there's nothing good about these old boats... The current boats are bajillion times better. I can still hear me screaming, as that boat breaks in the middle of the ocean for no reason, or when squid decided to float up for some reason.

They kind of did. You can use item attributes to change the damage items do and remove their cooldowns. Then you just agree not to use shields.

@@Haphpint_ All I remember was that knockback changed a little bit. It wasn't a huge deal. This was also the time servers started to support multiple versions of the game. Not much changed with the update so there wasn't a big incentive for players to update.

Yup bedrock pvp is like 1.8 but with shields Note: shields also don’t get canceled by axes and if you smack someone who has their shield up the person who hit them gets flung back

The combat update made playing survival much more fun and interesting, not just spam clicking mobs, but when playing on minigames like skywars or bedwar i prefer the 1.8 pvp more, though i mostly play survival because i don't have a mousepad and my aim is bad after 3 years of not having a computer, this laptop i have now is not permanent anyway so i might have to play on my iPad again after awhile, sigh...

I've never been much of a pvper, but I did a little bit of 1.8 and a little bit of 1.16, and I found 1.16 more accessible and engaging, finding I much more enjoyed working out when to hit instead of hitting as fast as I could. Felt a lot more like an actual fight to me, and people's excessive hatred for 1.9 combat bothers me

I'll say this: the video was very informative and from what I can tell accurate up to the 1.9/1.16 bit. However I'm afraid to say you missed so many revolutionary PvP changes in the later versions, for example end crystal PvP, tipped arrows, netherite, totems of undying, etc. The truth is the 1.9 meta is not axe and shield, but rather potions, explosives and extreme healing such as gapples and totems. Overall, good video but the final section was not quite accurate enough.

btw, the 15 clicks per second doesn't mean that you can hit people 15 times a second in 1.8 pvp due to s. You still can hit a person a maximum of two times, but higher clicks per second reduces your knockback and allows your hits to be more consistent. Great Video!

the speed cap was a pretty neat thing in my opinion, cuz theres that 0.5 seconds of "red time" when you cant even be hurt, so if you hit all swings perfectly it would just time itself out.

y'know the overcast network still kinda exists... it' s original owner handed over the domain to applenick, and it is now back with the exact same game-modes and maps but on a much smaller scale called overcast community. The server isn't exactly the same but revitalised alot of the old maps and still has it's old owner (Electroid) as admin atm... Some maps have been slightly edited and ofc the server doesn't have dedicated servers for separate game modes but it's definitely a fun throwback for sure when you play on it... even kept the same server IP as the olde days

1.9 PvP is the peak of combat. You don't get called a noob for not being able to have 30 clicks per second.

1.9 just kill the skill, and make the combat less fun and dynamic Now, it highly depends on the stuff you have, since you can't combo anyone and do significative damages, and anyone can just hide behind a shield Also, the saturation health regen is hyper stupid Like, pvp in 1.8 and 1.7 do not resume at "clicking fast huuhhgg 🗿" It's all about the combos Wich include aiming, positioning, other stuff AND clicking less or more fast Actually, clicking fast is the least important part of 1.7/1.8 PvP But if you remove the fast clicking, you can't combo anymore ppls loving 1.9 are just the losers that were taking the L on the pvp and minigames servers That's why they minimize pvp in 1.7/1.8 skill ceilling saying it's just " Spam Click " Despite the " Spam Click " being actually the litteraly least important mecanic in the 1.7/1.8 pvp

I played a lot of pvp servers and I remember the intensive resource slog that combat was, I might get hate for this but when 1.9 combat update came out I actually started dominating the old PvP lord's partially due to their refusal to learn the new mechanics. So I actually have good feelings towards the combat update. :)

Imagine 1.18 Being the parity update , think about it a little bit: 1-Combat Changes Fore Java and Bedrock (They said that before) 2-Redstone Parity For Java and Bedrock (AKA Quasi Connectivity) 3-Technical Parity for Java and Bedrock (AKA Better farming mechanics) 4-Quality Of Life Features from both versions 5-Cool Parity Features (like colored cauldrons from bedrock and custom shield banners from java) 6-Modding Capabilities for Bedrock (Probably Not) 7-Maybe Cross Compatibility with Java and Bedrock (Possible using plugins) Maybe that will never happen but if it ever happened , it will bring our community really together Bedrock and Java players!!

This would be awesome. But a few of the things you listed wouldn't be possible, such as quasi connectivity, which is a bug with Java that isn't present in C++ (the language Bedrock is coded in). Same goes for modding. Java is a much more flexible coding language, which is why mods are plentiful, compares to addons (the Bedrock variant of mods), which are generally less intuitive and often replace in-game items for "custom" items.

@@skchilly9836 first of all as a Bedrock technical Player and an add-on creator, I knew about quasi connectivity and how it can break Alot of the game's code and mechanics and I knew that it was first introduced as a bug in java, secondly as to my knowledge C++ is much Flexible than Java (correct me if I am wrong), thirdly think about bedrock add-ons as java datapacks, java datapacks are more flexible in some places (aka editing vanilla features) which we can't do in bedrock , and bedrock add-ons are more flexible in some places (aka custom entities and custom scripts)and they are much easier to code , but anyways bedrock add-ons are much better than before because you can add infinite items , custom items , custom blocks (kinda very limited tho) just check MCPEDL and you would be impressed, the point is that bedrock add-ons are (a little bit better) than Java datapacks , and Mojang said before that they wanted to add a modding API to bedrock in addition to Add-ons , that's my point , I would love to hear yours :D

I remember I tried out 1.9 PvP on the PvP legacy server, and it was really easy to pick up, but extremely boring. In duels without a shield I just hit them, backed up, and went back in when my cool down ended. When I tried out some duels with shields it was literally me and someone else holding our shields up until the other person put it down. I think 1.9+ is superior in everything except PvP and Mods, and the other way around for pre 1.9. But I prefer pre 1.9 cuz I like to PvP and I like the amount of mods 1.7.10 has.

Axes are pure shit to pvp with, trust me, as a known person and one of the better 1.9+ pvpers according to the official tier list of the top pvpers, any decent sword pvper beats a good axe pvper in 1.9+ Edit: there are loads of 1.9 servers, but they just arent as known as others. Probably the best is vultex.gg

I remember a small time period, where I'm not sure if it was overcast, or a fan server overcast style, but where they use the 1.9 PvP, that month was the best PvP fights I ever had, it really felt like a medieval strategic warfare, sadly they can back to the PvP 1.8 shorty after
