It varies by mood, but right now it is Piano Concerto no.2 in C minor, Op.18 movement 2, Adagio Sostenuto. To me it sounds like a Disney soundtrack for love, a gentle, tender, and soulful opening, rising apprehensively into passion and then settling again. I love it so much.

Fun fact: Rachmaninoff's Étude-Tableau Op. 39 No. 6 is actually written alongside with his other Op. 33 Études-Tableaux compositions as Op. 33 No. 4, but it was not published alongside other Op. 33 études, rather, it was revised and published with other Op. 39 études.

Thanks! Yep, it is indeed quite difficult, I learned this part for my girlfriend and amongst other things gave her the sheet as our anniversary present, therefore I was motivated enough to learn it :D I am preparing a lot and have a good feeling about it, I think I can play it pretty well since I love Rachmaninoff from the bottom of my heart, especially for his emotionality.

Piano Concerto No 2 the Adagio Sostenuto is amongst my Top 5 all time favourites... Such an agonizingly beautiful and heart-wrenching piece that you want to cry to .. And his All-night Vigil, Now Lettest Though moves me to tears everytime... Rachmaninov is a master of touching the souls of those who listen to his music

I'm glad that Rach felt the need to express himself in a neo romantic style. He was so good at it and apparently didn't feel the pressure to create something really outside the box like Prokofiev and some of his other contemporaries.

This visualizer demystifies piano so much. You can really see how a pianist just approaches the task of music making as a kind of self solving puzzle/game instead of some kind of ungraspable miraculous abstraction. Been really enjoying watching these as an addition to my art history studies. It’s taken me half a lifetime to be able to find a way to find a way to digest this type of creation. Much like classical painting it’s a completely different world for a contemporary person to access, especially if they weren’t raised with a classical education. I feel like I’m finally able to find solid ground amongst these greats through the study of painting, philosophy and mythology. It’s not longer a bewildering but beautiful and impressive chaos, but a dimension set parallel to time and space. And: These crazy people making these things against all odds, sacrificing normalcy and relatability repeatedly to sit alone and reflect out a mirror for the inhabitants of earth. It’s so wild. The Roch man a real modernist. His arps just sound like machines and war and cars and talking through wires and people finally flying. You can hear the death of the medieval mind. It’s not all technological salvation, but a loss of something parental and deeply tragic.

You forgot the 1st Piano Concerto((( It was his first officially signed opus (op.1), he wrote it when he was 18 and he played it at his final piano exam (we don’t forget that he also graduated like composer and wrote for the final exam the opera “Aleko”. It is a good video, but it would be better if the interpretation was real, not MIDI, for the new listeners especially.
