They can be found for cheap on aliexpress! You can either buy the head, body, and clothes separately (if you want something specific) or a full doll. All for really cheap. It takes a while to ship tho.

Oh! And clone Bild Lilli dolls from the 50s, before there was Barbie! I found out there were clones of Bild Lilli in Hong Kong and Spain with dark skin.

Licca is a very cute doll, I'd like to have some but seeing how her and her huuge group of friends mostly have blonde or light brown hair must have impacted many Japanese girls in a not good way.

@@now591 Japanese girls and women have internalized a beauty standard that is, like Licca, 'haafu' - half Japanese, half 'whatever European country is more fashionable at the moment'. In Licca's time of creation, that was France (by the way, in Japan 'European' always means blonde and blue eyed as a rule. Even most Italian characters in anime are like that - speaking from experience). This is why many Japanese women dye their hair lighter colors (not really blonde because it looks fake, but lighter browns), have monolid surgery and contour their nose bridge with makeup to make it look taller. Of course they will deny they do that to look 'haafu', they can't say it outright to save face, but it is what it is.

I played with a few Licca-chan dolls growing up and I remember my grandma would put them in a display cabinet because they were just so pretty. I believe they are still in the same display cabinet because I was the only child, the dolls got preserved very well. The attention put into creating them can be easily seen on their clothes, shoes and accessories, they even come with a stand so that they can stand up straight in the display cabinet. They sure elicit fond memories from my childhood. Now I am a mother-of-two and looking to buy one for my youngest upcoming birthday but they are hard to come by in the UK. I believe the one I had (and still have in my family home) as a child are the fourth generation and it's interesting that they needed to revert back to the 4th generation after poor reception of the 5th generation. They are simply gorgeous, some of my friends played with barbie and western toys but I didn't see their appeals after being introduced to Licca-chan.

0:42 Original designer is Miyako Maki. an espouse to the late Leiji Matsumoto. a very legend in his own right as Mangaka. And at a time Matsumoto even drawn women in the same style Miyako Maki does (and maybe with or without unusually long hair, something that might be his very own thinking). and this ultimately led to his evolved beauty standard that will eventually eclipsed her in Mid and late 70s.

Shojo is his art evolutionary path, one that he gives the same Licca eyes to so many female characters even in Shonen genre (Battlefield series, Lightspeed Esper, Sexaroid), and leads to love of his life.. (3:43) he has to begin with Shojo because it once had bigger market. even Shueisha's flagship brand before Shonen Jump (founded in 1968), was Ribon (And Matsumoto did submit his manga works there).

Ohhhh I love Licca Chan!!! When I travelled in Japan in 2015 with my 6 years old daughter, we discovered these dolls who are absolutely lovely, imaginative !! For me it was like the mangas I watched when I was child (Sailor moon, and many many popular shojo anime in France in the 80s/90s!!) I bought some of these dolls, unfortunately in France it’s not found, and extremely expensive in Internet! In Japan it’s really cheap and with so many cool accessories !

I've heard of these dolls before, they're so expensive to buy second hand. I honestly like the 1st to 2nd generation dolls, they look more child-like(since she's 11), modern licca chan looks more like a teenager/young adult. But she's still beautiful.
