The Johnny Canales Show helped launched the careers of many Tejano Artists. Sunny Ozuna was also a pioneer of Tejano music in the 1960's.

Thing that I would like to see, is my hometown of Kyle, Texas to evolved Tejano music into their town I would like for this newscast to see if they can sponsor Tejano music into Kyle, Texas in the spring time like around Cinco de Mayo people can go over there and enjoy themselves without paying to park or anything just to have fun. We want that for our town of Kyle, Texas Kyle, Texas used to have Tejano heritage years ago but they don’t but now we need to bring that back into Kyle, if you would, please give me a thumbs up or a comment if you like my comment and oh yeah, we do love Selena Quintanilla she is the queen of Tejano music

I’m originally from RGV but haven’t lived there in a long time but I still visit every once in a while. I was there this past holidays and all that is left is 102.1 - the format sounded dated but I still liked it.

People just dont go to concerts anymore in masses like they used to everyone can watch it online or listen online befor some people only herd on cd cassette ans went to live concerts wich made the genre popular in yhe first place the only reason it is surviving is bc the new generation wants to be like there parents bc of. Nostalgia

Awesome documentary! I’ve had plenty of conversations with many hard core tejanos who refuse to admit Grupo Frontera is tejano, which is crazy to me given the state of the industry! It’s always “that’s not tejano!” So, what is tejano if Frontera is not? Why is Michael Salgado and Grupo Siggno tejano but Grupo Frontera is not!?

Don't listen to those people, and yes frontera is tejano music also. Welcome Frontera!

I am a musician who played with a lot of bands back in the 80/90s. I played with several Mexican and Tejano bands. Music evolves. Frontera nor Siggno would fall under the original Tejano umbrella back then but I am not saying it isn’t now. Michael Salgado is more norteño also back then. Even in Texas San Antonio Tejano was/is way different than Rio Grande Valley music. To be honest, people can call it whatever they want as there is very little of it left. I went back home to the RGV these past holidays and I only heard it on 102.1. That was the last station but the format was very dated. What used to be only English pop top 40 104.1 is now Spanglish. Things change and I am good with it. Btw, I left the music industry back in the mid 90s to pursue other things. I listen to everything and always have. Support our RGV bands although I don’t live there.

Tejano has fallen off badly, it’s hasn’t been Mainstream since the 90s, it’s all Norteño, Corridos, Norteño/Sax and Corridos Tumbados, Even in South Texas the majority of teens and young adults all listen to Mexican music, Tex Mex music fell off after we Lost Selina

Selena was on her way out of the tiny market of tejano. She was already more famous because of her mariachi ( Mexican) and Cumbia (Colombia) recordings .

And the new corridors just sound like kids whining with there funny voice than actually sounding unique and not trying to be anyone els but themselves

That is not true. I played music during that time. She was popular amongst the Tejano and some northern Mexican circles but she was one of many. Music evolves.
