I feel that the SunRise Version of Valstrax's Theme fits Crimson Glow rather nicely. Valstrax's regular theme is almost inspiring and heroic, reflecting Val stunningly flying through the skies at high speeds. Crimson Glow's is much more sorrowful, showing how saddening it is that such an awe-inspiring dragon has fallen to the ground and succumbed into madness.

A theory a lot of people I've seen have on why we got Crimson Glow instead of normal Valstrax in Rise is because the reason we even fight Valstrax in GU in the first place is because he's disturbing the airships. Valstrax are normally quite calm and don't attack on sight, thus we have no reason to hunt it in Rise. Crimson Glow Valstrax on the other hand, as you said, has basically gone insane. Its extremely aggressive and thus we have a reason to fight it in Rise.
@HeavyWings11 ай бұрын
Honestly man I think if they wanted to bring the original Valstrax back they would have simply invented a new reason.
@telson158311 ай бұрын
@@HeavyWingsMaybe they just didn't feel like/didn't have the time to come up with a new reason to fight him, so they found more convenient to just create a slightly different form with a simple lore and slightly different design than make up new lore for the old Val.
@BlossomPathOnStage157 ай бұрын
Actually the reason why you fight him in GU is because he's a newly found unknown Elder Dragon. People always thought it was a literal comet because no animals can go that fast. Well that is until it hit the ships that people found out it was an Elder Dragon. Because of that the Guild wanted it to to be hunt for research purposes.

Valstrax to me is literally the perfect monster to me and my favourite in the entire series. His design is so good and creative, I love monsters that use body parts as weapons which Valstrax does in spades, his ambush is always a treat to witness and his theme is incredible (Rise version is also amazing even if the chorus doesnt hit as hard). I've definitely begun to appreciate Crimson Glow more. His smaller size I prefer more and he is so well animated especially when he's hovering. There's also nothing more entertaining than having an ambush send you into fight or flight and especially when he carpet bombs another monster

Valstrax is, at this point, my favorite monster in the series. It's got a great concept, fantastic design, and a marvelous fight. There is no bad Valstrax. I mean, it's a dragon crossed with a fighter jet. Awesome is just the tip of the iceberg. GU Valstrax gave me one of my personally coolest moments I've experienced in MH. It was doing the rocket charge at me from across the zone while fighting on the Pinnacle's temple area. I perfectly timed my Valor LS counter and got a knockdown from it. Damn did that feel good. Beyond that personal anecdote and fond memory, it is a gorgeous monster. I really love the bright silver of the original version, and the GU theme definitely soars higher. But... Sunbreak's Crimson Glow Valstrax is a smooth yet brutal fight. CGV has so many options at such a pace that you really have to be aware and pay attention to it and your movement. The hover in particular is such a cool move. Beyond its impressive visuals and slick attacks, that hover also demonstrates an insane level of power and control for this creature. To maintain a controlled altitude like that with basically rocket thrusters is crazy and is a great indicator of just how intelligent Valstrax are. Plus it just divebombing you is vicious in the best way. (Also, as an Insect Glaive main, taking to the skies to duel a mighty and powerful dragon is incredibly cool and satisfying. Just gonna throw that out there.) Finally, Risen Valstrax is one of the few creatures in Sunbreak I honestly fear. Yeah, overall, Rise and Sunbreak were pretty easy. But Risen Valstrax is on the short list of monsters that I actually approach with caution (the others being RIsen Shagaru, Primordial Malzeno, and Violet Mizu who for some reason just has my number). The attacks RV is sporting are insane. The double dragon-beam is not only breathtaking but also devastating. The way it chains attacks cleanly from one into the next, barely giving you a chance to breathe makes for a pulse-pounding battle. Even playing cautiously, RV is one of the few monsters that will regularly put me on a cart at least once per hunt. I love that crazy monster... from a distance, because it will kill me if I get anywhere near it. So, yeah. Valstrax is great. Every Valstrax is great. I hope to see it return in Wilds so it can ambush me from out of nowhere on those vast, beautiful expanses.

It's safe to say that if Mizutsune did not exist, Valstrax would be my absolute favorite monster, period. The design. Its sheer amount of abilities that it weaves in and out of during combat. The MUSIC. It all blends together so well and makes it a worthwhile flagship for GU. My love for it was only bolstered when I fought Risen in SB. Spent a whole weekend just throwing myself at it, learning what moves it tends to string together, what I can and cannot counter safely, how to handle basically getting walled in during the ambush. There's so much going on there, leading to the fight feeling rather oppressive, which in my opinion, works in the fight's favor. A powerful Elder Dragon, driven insane from its own mutations, heavily empowered by overcoming The Anomaly. It makes sense to me that it'd throw everything and the kitchen sink at you and you'd simply learn to adapt. It was just a great experience overall and is why Vastrax is near and dear to my heart.

It's really fast paced for a fight in GU, but as long as you are calm and paying attention, you can reposition pretty well. The way it stance dances with its wings are great as an indicator of where you should position and approach fighting the monster, which is just an awesome telegraph mechanic that pushes the "proactive" gameplay of the older games really well.

the beam is similar to shara ishvalda's in look but not in design. shara's beam is 1 of the best attack designs in the series, it's not a traditional beam that if you tank for any reason you can just sit in it for the rest of the animation as if it's not there. instead, it's a machine gun so if you i frame it initially but are still in the line of fire you still get shot. also, if you block it the machine gun nature of the attack will constantly chip away your stamina and health while knocking you back. stamina drain, chip damage, and knock back all depending intensity all depending on the skills in your set. under most consonances, if you face shara's beam head on with a shield for the entire duration you will lose all of your stamina and get hit before it ends but, there's a trick to this attack, if you turn to the side so the shield is still blocking the beam but at an angle you will get knocked back on that angle and safely exit the beam's AOE in a few hits. this is much more creative design to deal with guard up sets than Rise's lazy approach. "oh that, nah it doesn't work." "but it says it works on anything we can't block and you are making us use 3 times the slots to get the same effect as in MHW." "nah fuck you." "but other you glitched the game so our counters only work if we can block them so weapons without shield can counter things we can't." "what did i just say? fuck.... you." it wasn't crimsonglow's beem that did this, it was his around the world, but the comparison of his fight to the shara beam still fits for this discussion. this is why the updates, especially in base Rise felt even lazier if you used certain weapons. figure out a unique solution to make a hunt unique for this play style, don't just arbitrarily remove mechanics just for some of us.

There are a lot of things that I like about Crimson Glow, and especially Risen Crimson Glow, but the things that make those fights enjoyable for me are completely overshadowed by the abuse of lingering dragon explosions. In High Rank it wasn't such a huge deal because the stagger thresholds were a lot lower so you could flinch his chest more frequently to avoid the charged wings altogether (which is a good design choice; reward the player for doing well). In G-Rank though, he inhales through his chest for like, 0.00000032 microseconds and even when I'm expecting it to happen, or on the chance he decides to charge up for longer, I either can't dish out enough damage fast enough or I just don't have enough time to do so despite having a relatively decked out set. I don't believe I'm alone in this either, as I've heard similar complaints from speedrunners in the past, so it's not entirely a DPS issue, I just think they were way too happy to abuse lingering dragon explosions in G-rank and made sure to it was really hard to flinch his chest in order to facilitate that. I also feel like Risen Crimson Glow should've been the final risen monster. A lot of people seem to think Risen Shagaru was harder but that was absolutely not my experience. Not even close.
As a 4th gen enjoyer, nd a rise fan: Both are my favourite, or matter of fact: Valstrax is my Favourite Elden Dragon, next to chameleos. Valstrax has this umpf of power, in his desing (sharing a Gore magala Skeleton)* as his theme is sharp triangular parts of his body and his Wing that act like a jet, and his theming, a sort of One of the swiftiest planes piloted by a recognised Pilot, compare that to Bazel (B52), a more wyvern of Valstrax that themes around Destruction and Explosions in anywhere you'll see him. I am so glad thar Not only he came back in rise, as a variant that sniffed too much Dragon meth, to the point of going fucking insanity and pure Beserkness (Eva Reference), but still having stuff that makes him...a Valstrax, but umped up to 11. Also: thank god for someone in capcom team to make him appear in Amatzu quest in Sunbreak**, it is the biggest Detail of a reference nobody would notice until they realised it if they went back Now for context: * = gore magala is the base Skeleton of "hunched elder-dragons": in comparison to Gore and Nerg: they both share walking and Standing animation, wing placement, and roar aniations. It is not always brought up, simply bc the detail of how elders work in animation wise don't matter, but it is worthy to point out ** = Valstrax Attacking Amatzu / appearing in Amatzu quest solo or with no Master utsushi is a (In My Opinion) reference to Universal Japan ride that had MHGU on it (along with other rides, but i can't renember). In this ride, it is solely a Amatsu fight up close. But after retreating: Valstrax ambushes the hunter while midair, but you got to stop him from destroying a ship. Before he could continue (he got hit from Dragonator), he stops to notice Amatsu Escaping, and so he chases after it, suggesting a riverly between the two. It wasn't mentioned on this video, but i thought i'd add it in this comment here.

Is there a reason why when saying where Valstrax can be found, it’s a black screen when saying desert?
@arkamdjihad71958 ай бұрын
Quick question, are valstrax equipements good in mhgu and rise, like the hbg.
@HeavyWings8 ай бұрын
Not sure about the HBG but the seemingly endless white sharpness is lovely. Solid choices.
@lazydelibird6 ай бұрын
Dunno about ranged weapons in GU or Rise. But for GU melee weapons it has a unique quirk where it has ONLY white sharpness after that it's straight to red like Valstrax. It's either full charge or has to charge, no in between.
@lubbo52614 ай бұрын
The melee weapons are pretty good dragon weapons and the bow in Sunbreak is the best dragon spread bow, don't know about LBG/HBG

Ya know my biggest problem with monster hunter is i feel like im fighting myself for like 85% of the game 😂 zero effort required to the point of super fast bordum until i finally make it to the good stuff

I never hunted Valstrax, so im going just by his lore, and design. He looks cool, hes creative, and certainly a good, dynamic Fight. But ecologically hes kinds bad? Hes over the Top, not belifable and just belongs into a different Series, maybe Final Fantasy? Not sure, maybe you can name a better one. And so I keep my Opinion on him for Crimsonglow. Most People even forgot hes a Variant, and his Backstory of just beeing driven insane is just kinda a attempt of beeing cool, whitout delivering something whit more Substance. So overall I realy dont like him at all, but I see, and respect the good in him.

I hate how in rise he takes a breather after every combo like he's an end game jet engine elder dragon not a fat guy!
@thesoul20652 ай бұрын
Well since his body is fully drenched in dragon energy it makes every one of their attacks labored yet powerful so it makes sense why they have to get a breather once a combo is done

The soundtrack for Valstrax in Rise was one of the worst downgrades in the series. That said, it's still not as painful as Glavenus from GU to IB. Actually while I'm on it I'm gonna point out the biggest soundtrack upgrade in the series imo, being Tigrex in IB. Let's just say I've never liked Tigrex too much bc of the atmosphere, but the soundtrack in Iceborne did something no other iteration did. Rise should have reused it.

Yeah me too, just feeling missing the heroic part in RISE. but hey it his variant not the OG val so i think that pretty good reason why the theme a bit different
@therandomspinosaurus571711 ай бұрын
Welp I gotta be honest, I’ve never cared too much for valstrax I mean, aside from the general concept and his theme I don’t really care for him, I’ve always found the fight sorta annoying and his design feels like it’s doing to much yet too little at the same time, idk I certainly get the appeal in him and he has a good bit going for him but for me personally he’s just kinda ok
@oldcowbb8 ай бұрын
crimson glow is simultaneously overdesigned and boring as a variant. kinda disappointing. Runaway dragon energy is also very overused at this point. was hoping for something more unique to the fighter jet theme of valstrax

MHGU Valstrax: Is a good fight, overshadowed by Ex Deviants sadly MH Rise Crimson Glow Valstrax: Garbage DPS Sponge fight, next game has to compensate bringing Variant and Subspecies only of other monster(Mostly want a Stygian and Brute only and no base) MH Sunbreak Risen Valstrax: An Actually good fight by simply removing the stupidly big amount of Downtime

My personal 2nd least favourite flagship and my least favourite Risen ED. Valstrax is not difficult. It's just annoying to me personally. Extreme speed and AoE spamming is my least favourite combo to go up against in any game.

I don't care if I'm disliked for this, these are my opinions, and they matter because we deserve better out of modern Monster Hunter. Gonna be honest. GU was the best that Valstrax has ever been, and it's not even close. Crimson Glow has several implementation issues, because it is absolutely asinine to include a variant but not the base version This is why I hate the fact that Rise has so many little versions of a monster. Where are Bulldrome, Great Jaggi, Agnaktor, Zamtrios, Belocidromec and ESPECIALLY Gravios? It's nonsensical to not have these monsters. Anyway, back to Crimson Glow and Risen Crimson Glow. It is faster than even Master Rank Crimson Glow, and doesn't need to rely on Rise's trope of AOE spam to perform effectively. GU Valstrax's great speed combined with the fact that one must stay close to it to be safe makes it a game of tag of sorts, but your opponent has the mobility of both a helicopter and a fighter jet, which is awesome. GU Valstrax's Crimson Crash Dive IS slower, however, the lack of a notification as well as the blast off into the sky is much better. GU Valstrax even has better SOUND DESIGN. GU Valstrax has several unique sounds which for some godforsaken reason do not return in Rise; When GU Valstrax is enraged, you will hear a constant roaring jet sound that emenates from it, much like the sound an actual jet engine would make because it's sucking in more air. GU Valstrax's DYING SOUND is better than Rise Valstrax's, as in GU you hear the roaring jet sound wind down and die out alongside the usual death cry, a wonderful touch. This is completely absent in Rise. GU Valstrax also has the best music of the bunch. Onto Crimson Glow. A clarification as to why Crimson Glow is a variant; It is now permanently overcharged with Dragon energy, a state that a normal Valstrax cannot enter unless it lets the energy build for too long. It is a non-genetic but integral difference to behavior and physical traits, much like Black Diablos being a variant because of a huge hormone influx, or Shrieking Legiana being a variant due to living in even colder climates and opening new ice glands across its body, this the Variant classification. My biggest problems with Crimson Glow are that it exists in the game without its original version, and that it is noticeably slower despite supposedly being many times more aggressive. Even Master Rank Crimson Glow is fairly slow in comparison to GU Valstrax, however I must commend CGV's hovering, as well as Master Rank Crimson Glow's new hovering wing stab and the double laser, those were great additions. That being said, the Crimson Crash Dive no longer feels special or dangerous because of that stupid notification. Oh, and shield weapons STILL can't block it. Thanks guys. CGV's chest charge up is also ruined in Rise. In GU, you could knock Valstrax over by doing enough damage to uts chest as it is intaking air, simple and effective. In RISE, the first time CGV charges up, the DPS check is nigh on impossible to meet. This is because it takes a whole TWO SECONDS (yes I counted) to charge itself. This is asinine, and removes the entire point of its chest charge up and makes it feel pointless and contrived. The safe spot under its crotch for the direct downwards explosion is gone, and I'm nothing salty about it. Breaking its back is also a total bitch because it's very hard to attack directly, and even more so because mounting was replaced by the God's mistake that is Wyvern Riding. That being said and my criticisms being aired, the best thing about Rise's iterations of Valstrax, are those hilarious area transitions. They look better and are magnificent in GU, love that little twirl that it does when it leaves, and the red trail it leaves is gorgeous. Rise Valstrax's area transition is downright hilarious and is unironically also good. Watching it yeet itself to the next area instantly is a lot of fun, especially if it cones to your area and you never saw it coming. Then there's Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax. Where I hate Crimson Glow for being more boring and badly implemented, I hate Risen Crimson Glow for how infuriating it is. The good things about Risen Crimson glow are that it looks great in the Risen state, the new ultimates are cool, and that the Risen version of its roar sounds alright. Onto the bad. I must commend the animators on the new moves and some new sound effects, but Risen Valstrax is ABSURDLY reminiscent of a Street Fighter character because of its long attack chains, much like Risen Shagaru and Primordial Malzeno, whom I also dislike for this reason. Rolling around for five minutes doing nothing and then hitting the monster during a fully scripted taunt is no fun. Not only does Risen Valstrax have the same chest charge issues as Crimson Glow, but it leaves even more AOE bubbles on the ground on top of its ridiculous attack chains. It doesn't even feel like Valstrax anymore, it feels like a character from a fighting ir beat-em-up game, not a Monster Hunter game. What makes it worse is that many of its new attack variations have the EXACT same tell, and there is NO way to predict or read what it is about to do. This is completly counter-intuitive to Monster Hunter's classic game design. It has, by my estimates, eight different combos that are just its moves stitched together in different orders rather than actually flowing into each other and being telegraphed. It is utterly ridiculous. I absolutely HATE that it slides towards you when it winds up for the super spin and for the post-spin wing stab(s), it looks ridiculous and makes any attempt at positioning or dodging completely pointless, though this absurd tracking is seen all across Rise. Hazard Crimson Glow has all of the issues I just listed butcranked to eleven. The new double wing stab out of the super spin is kinda cool, but that's the only good change. Every new combo chain just makes Risen Valstrax less fun and less interesting because they reuse existing moves and add absolutely nothing new to the table. Risen Valstrax, alongside Risen Shagaru and Primordial Malzeno, are the epitome of everything wrong with Rise's combat specifically. I don't give a crap about the spectacle. These monsters are not fun. Even being able to read all of its moves and kill it consistently, I can confidently say that the most fun oart of this monster is watching it die. I must admit, however, that Risen Crimson Glow's iteration of the Crimson Crash Dive is pretty awesome. Overall, GU Valstrax is an utter masterpiece, from implementation to spectacle and combat, Crimson Glow is... okay, and Risen Valstrax is just bad Monster Hunter combat design as a monster.

Look how they massacred my boy. I hated this version of Valstrax, they reduced it to a simple monster, even the theme, they fucked it up so bad. Risen Valstrax IS GOOD, but risen is a gimmick we no longer will see.
