Seregios crying in the corner for the entire video after hearing the introduction Jokes aside, I think a fun mechanic you didn't mention was that Velkhana acts as an invader during expeditions and non-assigned quests from the start of MR 3 until you repel it for the first time and enter MR4... The problem is no one remembers this because it's not during assigned quests.

I thought about mentioning it but it's not something that really persists for a lot of the game like with say, Seregios (lol). Plus it's impossible for me to obtain footage without replaying a lot of World and Iceborne.

I actually first encounted Velkhana in an expedition because of this. I was trying to get more materials for my kinsects, and mid fight with a pukei pukei it swooped in and its theme just screamed "you're fucked." It's a neat touch that it really is out in the wild waiting for the main quest to happen

The 5th generation didn't miss with any of their flagships. Between the aggression of Nergi to the gracefullness of Velkhana. To both of Rise's flagships having that theme of being fueled by their hunger but in different ways, absolutely amazing work from Capcom on the 5th generation.

i think we all forgot how cool malzeno's teleporting power is far too quickly. i remember back when the demo first released and people were losing it over the teleport ability. also i have a feeling the symbiosis between malzeno and the qurio was initially forced upon malzeno as a result of fighting with gaismagorm and was a "required sacrifice". i had fun with a friend discussing the parallels between fiorayne and malzeno, which may or may not have been intentional on the writers' part. really need that sunbreak artbook to see more details on them.... rise/sunbreak flagships are among my favourite monsters too, and yeah opinions on magnamalo may have been mixed but people like malzeno and i am very glad for that i am also glad to see more videos from you! keep up the good work

I agree too! I wish that artbook was translated because I would absolutely buy it, plus there's a real issue in the Monster Hunter community of bad translations getting spread around and nobody else fact checking. Would be nice to get a first-hand source. Glad you enjoyed the video!

magnamalo doesnt seem to just rely on strength alone, the way he uses his tail makes it clear he has a sense of technique, very fitting for the samurai inspired monster.

One thing not mentioned is that in Master Rank regular Magnamalo does its standing hellfire gas ring twice, with the second one closer to its body, which is weird because Scorned once again just does the single outer ring.

I would definetly love to see a video from you covering all the secret/hidden stuff in the Monster Hunter games. Not endgame bosses that you need to unlock and stuff but actual secrets and references like the map secrets in earlier MH games or stuff like how there's a dead shen gaoren in Generations. There's not that many secret stuff like that so I think one vid covering the entire series might end up for a cute 15 minute video.

A lot of people hate on Velkhana, but I really like her, aesthetically, thematically and gameplay wise I think it’s a really well designed monster. For a monster designed mostly around projectile attacks I think it works very well and I love how graceful she is. Magnamalo is also a fantastic monster and Scorned Magnamalo is crazy over the top anime but I absolutely love it it’s such a sick fight, one of the coolest variants I think

Malzeno was such an amazing monster already, and Primordial Malzeno did what I thought it would be impossible and improved on it even more. I'd say its one of the best if not the best monster in the series. Velkhana and Magnamalo are great but they kinda got their spotlight stolen in their own games by other monsters like Fatalis and Valstrax, all things considered I still like them. Nergigante kinda just exists, id say most people who like him started with world and thought "hunting elder dragons" was something impressive when it really is not uncommon, I dont really find his fight very interesting either and its regular form not being anywhere in master rank didn't help.

I guess in the past we never saw Elder Dragons fight other monsters, and when they were present in a locale everyone else would flee. So having a new monster actively seek them out to eat was unprecedented.

I haven't fought nergigante, velkhana, or malzeno yet, but magnamalo is really fun. I love his design, fight, theme, gimmick, all of it. I'm excited to fight malzeno, scorned, and velkhana when i get to sunbreak! Also i find it really funny that velkhana can be fought in the lava caverns

Overall I’d say the 5th gen brought some pretty nice flagships, if I had to choose a favorite I’d probably go with nergigante (though if we’re being in Variants it’d probably be primordial malzeno), but regardless they are all pretty good except for magnamalo, he just doesn’t really feel like a monster hunter monster to me, feels like he came straight out of frontier though i can atleast say he was improved with scorned

And while yes the way hellfire is made is rather cool and easily one of my favourite thongs about his ecology that can’t really make up from the rest of it. The fight and theme are pretty good to be fair, and i even have scorned’s hammer. It’s just the monster it’s self I really don’t like.

For me scorned is a really good variant with a great background story as to why he bacame lile that (male magnas horns are only used for mating selection, so a magnamalo that got his crest messed up during a fight is not eligible for mating leaving him unable to find a parther and be rejected by his peers, which would eventually lead the magna to descend into a frenzy due to their anger and shame, becoming more aggressive and deadlier, focusing one increasing their territory even more instead of trying to find a mate as it would be useless and would result in failure and getting into more fights thus using his hellfire even more which darkens his armor and gaining more experience to dominate his control over his flames, some theories mention that when increasing his territory he likely to meet elder dragons more often which after surprisingly beating them he would eat them specifically their bones as thats how he gains his hellfire but instead he gains dragon element as all elders have somekind of dormant dragon ability inside them even if they don't use it, which is badass but i think it would be better to assume that he simply eats the bones of long dead elder dragons, making him able to expel dragon element alongside his hellfire which also darkens his shell too, the horns are really tough to break because they're essential for his life style, at least lore wise, so the chance of a scroned magna being created is very low) Though it really disappoints me how he only has 2 dragon attacks, like his final form could've made it so he leaves dragon explosions as an additional detonation after his hellfire explosions, like when he plunges his tail into the ground creating a chain of hellfire but this time the final one is actually dragon, maybe throw dragon balls from his tail too, or leave dragon dust from his body alongside hellfire dust, or at least give him 2 new dragon based attacks where it shows that he's suffering from using it, like the fight is really good and top tier but that's the cherry on top that's missing, also it would've been cool if not all scorned magnas had their horns damaged in the same way as the first one who's literally the one that attacked kamura during the rampage 50 years ago and was injured by hamon the blacksmith, like make it so every quest has a scorned magna with a differently scared crest, if he ever returns in the future without any new dragon attacks then it would be a shame. Also it would've been cool if hellfire drains your health like normal fire if not faster making it more dangerous and unique for both magnas. Also why it would've been cool if scorned and primordial got new themes...

lil' mistake: the wing talon stab/slam of Base Malzeno did transfer to Primordial, but it's rare enough I saw it only once. Also one attack that's notable in final phase Primordial: the attack where he scrapes his wing talon on the ground to send a shockwave at you? well he changes that, instead he uses his wing as fingers, making the shockwaves larger.

Not a big fan of vampiric Malzeno design, but I like Primalzeno's, only exception being sharp neck thingies on sides 😅 I love their fights and just watching the footage made me want to boot up Rise. I hate the multi laser attack Primordial Malzeno has though. It's a bain of my lance 😢

World is my first MH game and Nergigante was my only wall in it's story. Velkhana is the first time I actually had to start thinking on my build and my first ever rage quit (only rage quit so far) 😅 I love them both! At Velkhana was a giant surprise tbh. I killed Alatreon, killed Fatty, made full set of Fatty armor and didn't think much about AT Velk and then proceeded to get obliterated 😂. Hardest fight after Fatty in the game imo and I need it's armor 😅

My thoughts on each the 5th gen Flagship Monsters there all Great easily some of the best monsters in the seriers but i do have talk about each one and there Vartaions Nergigante is Soild the Spike Mechanic alone and Lore is Enough to be a Great Monster and had a Good Fight But It Ruiner Nergigante and the Reveal that It the Balance Elder Dragon that perfectly what make it one of the best Variants monsters the Bleed also help with Nergigate moveset Velkhana is A Very Solid Ice Elder Dragon and does it's job and the basic of learning the Combos and Tells the monsters sounds alone are soild The Arch Tempered Fight is Done Really really well Sunbreak is Mostly the same but the new Moves Are Nice but I Do think her turf wars with Magmamlo and Malzeno are the true Highlight beside the frostcraft skill i do hope Velkhana does take a Break in not being in Base Wilds but i be fine if she show up in a Later Game just Right now she been in Iceborne Stories 2 & Sunbreak Just would prefer a Little Break next time Magamalo The Fight and Design are Good and the Moveset and Hellfire Blight are soild but the Turf War the Only Problem The Concept is Completely fine a Good as a Secret moveset But if Magamalo does show up in wilds i Hope this Dunk moves Only Counts for Normal Rathalos/Rathain (The Subspieces and Rare Speices should have there own turf wars ) and Monster below Bazelgusse the other elders design there own turf war other Scorned Magamalo in Master Rank is Werid Lore wise After having ones it horn broke it can't be really mate with any females magamalos (In Lore wise) so it Purely Focus on it Power with could explained why it have the weaker ring Attack instead of a Normal Master rank Magamalo but have more Power Focus such as the Arm Blades But it soild and pretty brutal of you not careful Now malzeno easily became my favorite flagship monster period even before Primordial even after Gismagorm reveal i knew the even this Qirioed Malzeno was the good guy making the gathering the Qiruo Quest even more tragic being "THIS is YOUR Fault" now the Mastermind monster About to destroy in entire ecosystem is you didn't had the time to defeat Gismagorm it felt like a real team effort (ok enough story for now) the fact they turn a normal monster type like a vampire and having such a unique fight is aw inspiring and the move felt so good i remember beated the sunbreak demo with randoms and it felt that good and then there primordial malzeno and it basically If Raging Brachydios was Done Even better Easily the Best Story Monster in the series the new Moves make it completely different form the Original Malzeno the Variant being more of a Poor Victim of the Qiruo and Sparing it in the end if the story was Perfect to end Sunbreak and Everyone PTSD With the Anomaly Quest Grinding by having the Guts to complete the grind and fighting the best Monster Vartions Aka the Risen Elder Dragons (I really really want them back in a Future Title or in Stoires 3) Primordial Moveset in the later half is crazy with the Final Form Combo some could say it a Frontier Monster Easily work Listing 1stPrimordial 2ndMalzeno 3rd Ruiner Nergigate 4th Scorned 5th&6th is Velkhana and Magamalo But i do really like all of them regardless of Ranking

Yeah he fights against them, but during the hunt they start catching up to him. My guess is that since Primordial was the final monster, he's supposed to be the Qurio's endgame; they're desperate after trying so hard to find a new host and he's their final chance. That's why they all die when he's defeated.

In the first MH game there were only three dragons (Fatalis, Lao Shan Lung) and one of them was Kirin (horse) Second MH game introduced Kushala Daora and with him Teostra, Chameleos and then later games added Alatreon and more. Those monsters share a similar body structure with eachother; Fatalis does not. I think he only shares with Dire Miralis and Zorah

I guess il use this opertunity to give my thoughts in the 5th gen Flagships, which as been a mostly good batch My overall ranking would probably be 1. Nergigante 2. Malzeno 3. Velkhana 4. Magnamalo by a long distance Nergigante I think is fantastic in every aspect, fight, design, ecology and a good variant, I just wish he was used a elder Invader in base world instead of being stuck in his little corner of the recess, and that ruiner had the AT theme Velkhana has a lot a good things going for her but she's let down by some bad writing and doesn't really get to have any proper story involvement unlike nergi who gets to be the vocal point even if his story is still badly written, I hope one day she gets a black ice variant aswell Magnamalo I absolutely hate, as a boss fight in a generic fantasy game yeah he's fun but he completely abandoned the core principles of what makes a good monster hunter monster which is being a animal first and foremost, he's completely overdesigned, has way to much going on and is treated like a mary sue/spoiled child in his turf wars, and scorned just cranks everything bad about him to a silly degree, and his story presence is pretty trash and he's massively underused in his story giving rises bad writing Malzeno I think is pretty excellent in pretty much every regard, he does a lot of what gore does and gores my favourite Flagship, a great design and fight, plus he gets to do a first for monster hunter in getting to acutaly be shown harming someone on screen, he gets the best story presence in 5th gen by a big margin, and primordial is a great variant fight wise and also gets some great story presence with the ending, but he does bring up a lot of questions about malzeno as a species which is why I personally believe base and primordial are acutaly subspecies rather then variants as that makes more sense to me from a ecology stand point

Kinda funny, I would completely flip your ranking in terms of my thoughts on the flagships. I do agree with your analysis of their impact on the stories. It’s just that this is not that important to me. I agree that Magnamalo gets the short end of the stick in terms of the story. His design, fight and music are amazing, most fun out of all four of them for me. I think he would benefit greatly from being included in Wilds or its expansion, so it can be a part of the ecosystem. I also appreciate that he’s neither an elder dragon nor the king of the food chain, but a mid game fanged wyvern on the level of Narga and Zynogre. Regarding Velkhana, again she gets a poor story, but she has an amazing design. She’s the epitome of elegance as a monster, and I love that. The fight is also tough and engaging. Malzeno I’m pretty much with you on what you wrote. I just find its looks a bit forgettable compared to Velkhana, Magnamalo and other flagship monsters. As for the fight, it’s fun, but doesn’t feel that original. Finally, regarding Nergi. I feel that he’s the prime example of tell, not show. We’re told he’s an apex predator, a threat to everyone, and just absolutely awesome. Yet as a fight, for me I found him underwhelming. He was just too easy. I had tons more trouble with Bazel and the pickle than with Nergi. Which means that I have a hard time believing that this guy is the top of the food chain, really. Anyhow, it’s fun to read different opinions to my own. We’re all influenced by how we experience and encounter these monsters, especially the first time we fight them.

@@MeneerSoepgroente it's good to see someone read my essay of a comment and responded in kind, I can agree somewhat with nergi but that's been a issue of mine in general for 5th gen with it not being very hard till deep endgame and wanting it to be more difficult from early on and not just being focused all at the endgame, a lot of monsters suffer because of it and nergi isn't as hard as I would have liked him to be, primordial malzeno I think muddies the water on malzeno, it's like they where taking malzeno in the direction of being the vampire dragon but then decided to massively change gears with primordial without really thinking it all the way through, I would have preferred a variant that now has full control of the entire Swarm instead of just leaching of gaismagorm but we get the same lesson story wise of we don't haft to kill him but rather let him live so he can bring the Swarm under control, would have made a lot more sense il politely disagree with magnamalo and say I do not want him anywhere near wilds or it's expansion, wilds is giving me a lot of good feelings that it's gonna do a lot of what I really want the series to do and magnamalo is literally my number 1 least favourite monster in all of mainline, only really beat by some of fronter more ridiculous creations Regardless I really liked reading your comment it's good to hear what other people haft to say even when different to yourself

Here’s my ranking for all of the 5th gen flagships: 1. Malzeno 2.Mangamalo 3. Nergigante 4. Velkhana Velkhana is 4 because I loathe this monster. Its fight is annoying for me and I just don’t like its design at all. However, its armor and theme is good so that’s something. Nergigante is three because I didn’t like him that much at first. He’s fight just didn’t feel right to me at all and I just wanted to quit. But I learned and I beat him and now I like him a lot. I even use his armor it world. His design is great I love his underside and how it contrasts his black which is nice. I haven’t fought Ruiner yet but he seems fun. Magnamalo is very cool in my opinion. I love that he is a samurai tiger with soul fire. Scorned is also great but that’s not why I like him. When I first fought him he was one of only to monsters that I need other hunters to help me beat. Unlike the other monster that I was happy to be done with, I felt shame. So when it came time for the high rank version I fought him alone and was really fun and felt like I regained my honor. And finally Malzeno, he who is not just my favorite 5th gen flagship or favorite 5th gen monster, he is MY FAVORITE MONSTER PERIOD. I adore his fight, his design, theme, armor all of it is amazing. He’s the reason I even started playing MH. I love his design being a vampire dragon but also once a long time ago being a noble protector of the land. The fight is amazing and the armor, oh the armor is genuinely sublime. I love being able to heal by just attacking a monster and as a lance main that barely has time to heal the skill is so good. Primordial takes everything I loved about base Malzeno and turned it up to 100 his fight is like pure setortin for my brain. I changed to his armor after beating him and finally stopped using the base Malzeno armor that I have been using for the whole game and right now I’ve been having a blast with my favorite monster’s armor.

all 4 of these monsters are great for their own reasons but it can't be denied that all 4 of them sharing slight variations on a gimmick hurts them a bit. hell, magnamalo more so since his punish for not dealing with the gimmick is looks like just a clone of nergi with a dive bomb attack but it's more of a clone of the originator of this with astalos having a dive bomb. charge states that you can knock monsters out of are as old as 2nd gen with rajang, where you hit his tail enough to get him out of rage mode, lagiacrus having it tied not to rage but a big attack with it being just his back spikes as the target to suppress it. those were this idea in its infancy, 3U evolved it a bit with brachidios but that was sort of a way to add/remove status and explosions to attacks dynamically with no real super move tied to it. this truly got fused into the idea 5th gen overused with astalos having a rage mode independent charge state for parts of his body that are removed with damage to those parts that ends in a big attack if all o them are charged and the parts having thunder element added to physical attacks when charged. ruiner is smarter than base nergi, the brat tries to eat a volcano but the wiser ruiner not only uses you, the player, as a can opener for shara but even tests you out before you fight it to make sure you will be an effective can opener. velkhana, on the other hand, is funny. i love her but she's objectively a total dumb ass. she makes walls but has this hatred for other walls so if she wants your village dead all you have to do to detract her is have a set of walls that she will insist on breaking when she could easily fly over them. she's not even smart enough to catch her own mistake after seeing you fly over a wall like "oh flight, right i can do that too." nope, she just keeps hitting the wall like an idiot. she's fun but the fact that her beam passes though her ice walls iis bullshit. often you won't even see the animation if the wall is in the way so you get hit. the ground freeze is also obnoxious, especially if you use any weapon that can block. "oh no my feet are stuck, guess my arms don't work either." nergi's arch tempered was really fun but velkhana having the time limit artificially reduced for no reason other than i guess "well alatreon and fatalis had it" is annoying. yes, with how the horns work alatreon has a reduced quest timer before he party wipes you enough times. magnamalo was fun, even if he was shafted by the story so he was less impactful. malzeno is pretty great too, primordial was a fun time. scorned was ok, i'd have prefered a western knight ghost subspecies with a western ghost/icy conceppt but i guess they went all knight with malzeno so they couldn't. i hope with all my heart that 6th gen will be more creative with its flagships so they don't all shame the same gimmick with slight alterations. i love 5th gen but this is undeniably a flaw it has.

Love the Velkhana wall rant lmao, good stuff. It's definitely true that power-states for monsters are definitely just like, everywhere now. Like within Rise we have Magnamalo, Tetranadon, Goss Harag, Almudron, Lunagaron, Garangolm, Malzeno who all have a mechanic where they suddenly get stronger and we have to attack them enough to break them down for a knockdown. I love the Risen Dragons but it's the whole deal with them. I think it was Zinogre who properly defined these types of monsters, and then Gore Magala took them to the next level. I think the "I will do a big attack that ends my rage state" might have been popularised by 4U Teostra but I'm not sure; in any case a ton of them do that too. Magnamalo and Malzeno's super attacks imo are like... not lazy but kind of basic... but not in a bad way. Still not sure how to feel about them but they're not amazing. True about the can opener thing, I definitely think it's true that Ruiner couldn't figure out how to break the rock armour. By the way it's still possible for a Malzeno subspecies to be introduced later, Primordial is a variant. Although in my eyes we already have a ghost dragon in the form of Vaal hazak.

yeah @@HeavyWings dam it, i did forget about gore in that evolution discussion. in my defense, gore's thing was cool visually but didn't add anything from the lagiacrus back damaging thing. being damage a part but only 1 of them. so he didn't move it forward but cemented its popularity. a malzeno subspecies could be interesting. i'm so hyped for the potential of the Wilds flagship. i do love 5th gen, and its flagships, but i just hope that 6th gen doesn't share a gimmick with all 4 flagships again.

The flagships this generation rock, with the exception of one imo. Magnamalo is my favorite monster, just super cool and fun fight, with great ecology; Nergigante was super cool and fun, with arguably the best ecology out of the flagships; Velkhana probably has one of my favorite fights in the series, especially AT Velkhana; and I don't like base Malzeno at all. It's ecology makes absolutely no since, and Subreak has an issue with the movement of a monster not feeling like it's a living creature, and it's attacks with the curios I thought were too much. Big frontier vibes. Primordial Malzeno (outside the curios) is really good, the wings being used like a sword and shield was super cool.

First time fighting Nergigante I was like Oh shit I died so fast. First time fighting Velkhana I was like Oh she's so pretty and I died so fast. First time fighting Magnamalo I was upset because he was too easy. I don't have sunbreak so I haven't fought Malzeno

Magnamlo is the most complex monster I've ever seen, especially with all of those moveset. And then they added scorched maganamalo, malzeno and the other malzeno variant🥲

Nergigante and velkhana I think are the best because of it feels a lot more personal because you fight them more than once. In terms of fight magnamalo and primordial are the best. Normal malzeno sucks.

My opinion on normal Malzeno has improved over time, but aside from the teleporting he doesn't really have a rhythm that I can flow with in the same way Magnamalo and Velkhana do imo. Primordial fixed that though.
